Anna's grip on the sword tightened as she prepared to face the incoming skeletons.
Soon enough, the skeletons would reach her and begin their onslaught. These skeletons had come out together, but the first one was much nearer, so it had reached her alone… but now she had to face the remaining ones as they attacked her in a group.
The skeletons divided themselves into two groups, one of four skeletons and the other of five… Anna, who first thought about waiting for them to come one by one, frowned.
Her expressions turned grim; she knew that the skeletons had more physical strength than Seekers, and normally, that wouldn't be an issue for her as she had always trained with Neo, who was even stronger than these walking piles of bones.
But… She could not use her trait, and that was something her combat style was built upon. The very foundation of her combat style was built upon her trait and the technical advantage it provided her.
However, at the moment, she did not have those advantages and her very foundation for battle was taken away.
She heaved a heavy sigh and looked at the sword in her hand…
"I don't even use swords…" Anna muttered with a bittersweet smile.
Anna had always trained with daggers or short swords so she could use them as an extension of her body… but she did not know how to use a sword for the best of it.
She looked at the skeletons who were about to reach her and muttered.
"I'll just have to find out."
She stepped forward and decided to attack them before they could reach her… waiting for them held no advantage, as it would only increase the number of opponents she would have to battle against, and it would also put her into a defensive position.
And right now, she needed to take an offensive position, so she did just that.
She walked towards the group of four skeletons and looked at them with intense focus as she tried to find any weakness she could use as her advantage, and soon enough, she found it… the skeletons' sideways mobility was below average… they had to stop and take a turn to move sideways.
Anna's eyes glinted sharply as a smug grin appeared on her face.
She jumped towards the first group of skeletons and attacked the skeleton at the front. The skeleton blocked her attack, but Anna simply side-stepped and pierced the skeleton's head with her sword. The skeleton crumbled and vanished.
The other three skeletons attacked her at the same time, but Anna simply took a few steps back and began to move around in circles. The skeletons had to stop moving to turn sideways, so her constant movement forced them to break their formation.
Just as that happened, Anna closed in and pierced the head of another skeleton.
She repeated the same strategy for the last two skeletons and killed both of them.
She took a deep breath and looked a few meters away from where five skeletons were making their way towards her. Anna jumped towards them and once again used the same strategy.
Just as she was about to pierce the head of another skeleton, it sharply turned towards her and swung its sword. The rusted sword whistled as it was about to fall onto her.
Anna's eyes widened as she performed a roll to dodge the attack. She looked at the skeleton with a grave look as she spat through her lips.
"Damn it!"
She stood up and took a few steps back. She looked at the group of skeletons with intense focus and tried to find their weakness.
It appeared that not all groups held the same weakness. She continued to step back and looked for their weakness.
The skeletons continued their restless assault, and Anna continued to back away until she finally saw it.
Anna's lips arched up as a faint smile took hold of them.
She jumped towards the group of skeletons and dodged all of their attack as she entered deeper into their formation.
She soon stood within the centre of the five skeletons, and strangely, the skeletons at the front had stopped attacking her. However, she still had to face the other three. She dodged their attack and swung her sword at the skulls of the two skeletons standing at the front.
Their skulls exploded and their bones crumbled before vanishing.
The remaining three skeletons formed a formation of two at the front and one at the back, and Anna once again pushed through the two at the front and blocked a strike from the last one before swinging at the skulls of the remaining two.
Now, only Anna and a single skeleton were present within the wide grassland.
Anna huffed for air as she prepared herself for the attacks of the skeleton…
'This is tiring…'
She swung her sword at the skeleton, and the skeleton used its free arm to block the attack from hurting its upper body.
The sword dug into its bone and nearly cut it off, but the skeleton slashed at Anna before she could cut off its arm.
She side-stepped to dodge the attack and landed a kick to the skeleton's lower body.
The skeleton skidded back a few steps and got ready to stand up again, but just as it was about to stand up, a shadow towered over it and soon it crumbled and vanished.
Anieal embedded the sword into the ground as she took big gulps of air.
"I was never a fan of the horror genre…" she added with a tired smile. Her smile, however, faltered as a familiar voice echoed through the wide grassland.
|Second Wave is about to begin.|
"Master?"
Anna mumbled before she heard the sound of rustling leaves and rattling bones; however, this time it was from the opposite direction.
"There's more?" she questioned before straightening herself and tightening her grip around the sword.
"Let me reap your profane lives." She spat with an annoyed expression.
