After leaving the hospital, Miyashita Naoyuki, deeply shaken, was still unwilling to accept his exile with resignation.
He thought of his sister, Miyashita Ryouko.
As the apple of their father's eye, her plea might change their father's mind.
So he immediately found Miyashita Ryouko, who was getting a beauty treatment, dismissed the beautician, and grabbing her hand, he said, "Ryouko, you have to save your brother!"
"What happened? What's going on?" Miyashita Ryouko asked with confusion, removing the facial mask from her face.
"I've been such a fool..." Miyashita Naoyuki lamented the situation in brief, wailing, "Now dad wants to banish me from the country."
"Brother, you really shouldn't have done what you did. Dad is such a proud man! Having to admit his wrongs today after being confronted, it's no wonder he's angry at you," after hearing him out, Miyashita Ryouko exhaled and spoke with a face devoid of expression.
Miyashita Naoyuki, his face full of remorse, ruffled his hair and said, "It's too late for regrets now. I never thought that smuggling some cigarettes to sell could have such severe consequences. After all, there are heaps of people smuggling guns."
He still hadn't realized the gravity of smuggling tobacco, because Miyashita Hidekatsu didn't explain it to him, which meant he had truly given up on him.
"Once dad makes up his mind, not even eight horses could pull him back," Miyashita Ryouko, well-loved by Miyashita Hidekatsu and thus very familiar with him, shook her head and said, "It's no use me pleading for you, you'd better find Aoyama Xiu Xin; his word is far more effective than mine."
"Aoyama Xiu Xin?" Miyashita Naoyuki didn't understand.
Miyashita Ryouko explained, "Have you forgotten about that incident in Asahikawa? Mr. Aoyama helped our dad cover up a huge scandal; he owes Mr. Aoyama a favor, so he definitely won't refuse his request. Of course, it all depends on whether you have the ability to convince Mr. Aoyama to use up such a valuable favor on you."
Miyashita Naoyuki's expression changed uncertainly; he had never dreamed that one day he would be begging Aoyama Xiu Xin for help. Had he known this, he would not have crossed him.
He then looked up at Miyashita Ryouko again.
"Don't look at me, big bro; giving you advice is already the best I can do. If I were to speak for you, Mr. Aoyama would surely refuse, and it would make my relationship with him awkward," Miyashita Ryouko guessed his intentions and refused without hesitation.
Miyashita Naoyuki, not giving up, grabbed his sister's hand and said, "How could that be? Aren't you two..."
"He's been with plenty of women; do you think I'm special?" Miyashita Ryouko curled her lip, adding, "He's lustful, but not so driven by his libido that he'd waste such a big favor on me; plus, having already been with me, it's not like he has much to miss if he can't have me again."
She was always so forthright, spouting shocking and inappropriate language without hesitation.
"Alas, I'll go myself then," Miyashita Naoyuki sighed after hearing her words and steeled himself to say.
Miyashita Ryouko giggled, playfully waved her fist, and said, "Then do your best, big bro."
Miyashita Naoyuki rolled his eyes; his sister was heartless in a sense, indifferent to family ties. He shook his head and turned to leave.
"Come in, let's continue," Miyashita Ryouko called out to the beautician outside the door and lay down again.
She and Miyashita Naoyuki had a good relationship.
But there was really nothing she could do in this situation; thus, feeling sad was pointless, so she chose not to be sad.
The people of the Miyashita family all had a trait of being heartless and ungrateful.
Miyashita Hidekatsu could cruelly deal with his own son; Miyashita Naoyuki was ungrateful to Aoyama Xiu Xin; Miyashita Ryouko would not lift a finger to help her dear brother.
The root cause was twisted, apparently a genetic issue.
Miyashita Naoyuki arrived at the police headquarters and went straight to Aoyama Xiu Xin's office, knocking on the door politely.
"Knock knock knock!"
"Come in." Aoyama Xiu Xin did not look up.
Miyashita Naoyuki pushed the door open and, after closing it behind him, quickly stepped forward and knelt with a plop, begging pitifully, "Mr. Aoyama, I was wrong. Please save me."
"Miyashita Naoyuki, what are you up to?" Aoyama Xiu Xin finally raised his head to see the person before him, frowned, and put down the document and pen he was holding to ask.
With a pitiful tone, Miyashita Naoyuki said, "I've made a mistake, my father wants to expel me from the country, I don't want to be banished, Mr. Aoyama, please plead on my behalf; my father owes you a favor, he will surely forgive me for your sake. Everything before was my fault; if you help me just this once, from then on we'll be brothers of different mothers; anything you ask of me, I'll be sure to follow through!"
Aoyama Xiu Xin laughed after hearing it all, "Miyashita Naoyuki, can you even remember how many times you've wanted to call me your brother? Do you think I'm an idiot?"
Miyashita Naoyuki had already shown his true colors—turning his back on those who once helped him, and Aoyama Xiu Xin had dealt with such behavior before.
At the same time, he had guessed that the issue must be related to the smuggling of tobacco. Miyashita Hidekatsu's decision to expel him from the country indicated that his patience had reached its limit, and the bond between father and son had been depleted.
His goal had been achieved.
The protective layer around him was shattered.
Now was the time to deal with this guy properly.
"Slap slap!" Miyashita Naoyuki did not hesitate to slap himself twice on the face, pleading with a shameless expression, "I was so foolish before, I've deeply realized my mistake, Mr. Aoyama, please, give me another chance, raise your noble hand once more to save me!"
Save you? The reason you've ended up in this situation is thanks to me; I'm about to take this chance to crush you.
"Get out," Aoyama Xiu Xin said sharply.
Miyashita Naoyuki was determined, "If you don't agree today, then I will kneel here and not get up."
Aoyama Xiu Xin immediately picked up the internal phone on his desk and called the first investigation division, "Send two people up."
Soon two police officers knocked and entered.
"Drag him out. Don't let him take a single step inside headquarters again," Aoyama Xiu Xin commanded, his face expressionless.
"Yes!" the two officers responded, one grabbing Miyashita Naoyuki's left hand and the other his right, and they dragged him out.
Miyashita Naoyuki hadn't expected Aoyama Xiu Xin to truly be so indifferent to past affections. Outraged and struggling, he cursed loudly, "Aoyama Xiu Xin you ungrateful wretch! Without me, how could you have secured the municipal construction project in Sapporo? Without me, how could you have met my father? You ingratitude-filled white-eyed wolf, boo-hoo…"
The next moment, his voice abruptly stopped.
Because one of the police officers had covered his mouth.
Aoyama Xiu Xin sneered and picked up the phone to call Nakamura Shinichi, "Miyashita Hidekatsu has completely given up on Miyashita Naoyuki, you can make your move. Let this terrible guy say goodbye to this world."
Offending the dead means going all the way to the grave.
Otherwise, if they have the slightest chance, they'll surely seek revenge in the future. And what situation constitutes a chance?
As long as a person is alive, there is a chance!
After hanging up, Aoyama Xiu Xin called Miyashita Hidekatsu and said, "Mayor, this is Aoyama Xiu Xin. Naoyuki just came to see me, saying you want him to go abroad and never return, and he hopes I can plead with you on his behalf, to forgive him just this once."
"Heh, how does he have the face to come begging to you?" Miyashita Hidekatsu laughed in annoyance. Miyashita Naoyuki had clearly turned against Aoyama Xiu Xin, making no attempt to conceal the resentment in his heart, yet now he was begging the same person for help.
This shamelessness, if he had a good enough brain, would make for a promising politician, but unfortunately he's too stupid.
He could almost imagine Aoyama Xiu Xin's speechlessness.
"Making Aoyama laugh now," sighed Miyashita Hidekatsu helplessly. "He's just grasping at straws, don't bother with him. Sending him abroad is already the last act of mercy from me as a father, it's for the best, for him and for everyone, so he won't cause more trouble at home."
"Pity the hearts of all parents in the world, it's just a pity Naoyuki may not understand," Aoyama Xiu Xin said with a sigh, then added, "Actually, if Naoyuki could recognize his mistakes, it's not like he couldn't be given…"
"That's enough, Mr. Aoyama, you don't need to plead for him because of me and Ryouko, my mind is made up," said Miyashita Hidekatsu in a hard tone.
Aoyama Xiu Xin's mouth curled up slightly, "Right!"
After Miyashita Hidekatsu hung up the phone, Aoyama Xiu Xin muttered to himself, "Since you detest this son so much, I'll help you make him disappear forever."
He wasn't the sort to do good deeds anonymously, but unfortunately this time he was doomed to be an unsung hero; he would never let Miyashita Hidekatsu find out that Miyashita Naoyuki's death had anything to do with him.
For, in the end, he was still his own flesh and blood.
In the following days, to show that he recognized his faults and to seek his father's forgiveness, Miyashita Naoyuki hastily shut down his smuggling business, dissolved his smuggling gang, and transferred money from his private stash to the Tobacco Industry Corporation's account as compensation.
Yet even so, Miyashita Hidekatsu remained unyielding on driving him out of the country.
On August 3rd, as Miyashita Naoyuki listlessly walked out of the hospital for what felt like the umpteenth time.
Standing at the entrance, he lifted his head to look at the scorching sun hanging in the sky and felt a little dizzy. He was almost resigned to his fate, ready to accept what was to come.
"My father, you really are a heartless man!"
He turned to glance back at the hospital, muttering to himself, then thought of Aoyama Xiu Xin.
His eyes filled with deep-seated hatred. This ungrateful, indifferent cur, once he built a name for himself abroad, he would come back for revenge!
That's right, why should he forever stay out of the country just because his father said so? As long as he achieved success on his own, without relying on his family's financial support, there would be nothing his father could do to stop him from returning.
Fuelled by the intent to take revenge on Aoyama Xiu Xin, as well as to make his father regret and acknowledge him, Miyashita Naoyuki walked away with renewed determination.
A shrill honking cut through the air.
Instinctively turning his head, his pupils dilated in shock as he saw a dump truck barreling towards him, with a horrified expression plastered on the driver's face.
"Crash!"
Miyashita Naoyuki was sent flying through the air, the world spinning around him before he crashed to the ground. After struggling briefly, darkness enveloped his vision, and he lost consciousness completely.
The dump truck that hit him skidded a short distance before toppling several more vehicles, finally coming to a stop and shutting off.
"Ah! Quick, someone get help! Bring a stretcher!"
Hospital staff shouted at the entrance.
Even though the accident happened right outside the hospital and he was rushed into the emergency room immediately, Miyashita Naoyuki's luck had run thin, and he succumbed to this overwhelming misfortune.
He was soon declared dead after the rescue attempts failed.
After learning of his son's death, Miyashita Hidekatsu sat in a daze on the bed, somewhat out of sorts. It took him a long while before he looked at the attending police officer and asked, "Are we sure it was an accident?"
"Right! The driver was drunk driving, with multiple DUI records, and the hospital's surveillance captured the entire accident," the officer in charge respectfully replied.
Miyashita Hidekatsu nodded, then after a moment of silence, he exhaled and said, "Then, let's proceed with the normal processes."
"Fate, such a mysterious thing."
As a father, he certainly felt hurt.
But not that much hurt.
Because his heart had already died before that.
He didn't even demand a deeper investigation into the possibility of foul play, simply having heard only the police's side.
There wasn't even time to mourn Miyashita Naoyuki's death; up next was Habamoto Youko's birthday.
Aoyama Xiu Xin had already prepared a surprise for her.
