"Welcome to Hell". Adi Hutter said.
Tyler gulped when he saw the sinister expression on his coach's face. Everything was basically fun and games when it was just him and Adrian the day prior.
"Don't worry". Adi Hutter waved his hands when he saw Tyler's expression change. "You have training in a few hours so I won't wear you out too much".
"That's not what I'm worried about". Tyler muttered. What concerned him was that statement implied that Adi Hutter did in fact plan to wear him out, even if he said he didn't plan to do it too much.
Even though it was a lot more demanding than the work he did with Adrian, the training session surprisingly turned out to be quite fun. He did a lot of finishing drills as usual, but Adi's presence made it more thorough. He put a lot of thoughts into the scenarios that Tyler was usually thrown in, and made sure that Tyler's reaction to them were realistic if he was in an actual match.
It was in moments like this that Tyler realized, as Adi Hutter frequently said, there was a reason why he was the head coach and his assistants were, well... assistants.
After the training session, Tyler felt a bit tired but it wasn't anything he couldn't handle. In fact, he had been clamoring for more but Adi Hutter had to shut things down before he drained himself too much.
As time passed, the rest of the players began to arrive for training. Adi Hutter gathered all of them in the center of the training field and then he addressed them.
The training session that day was going to be something light. They just had a mild fitness session and had a little bit of fun. They organized a 5-a-side tournament that was won by the team consisting of Majecki, Singo, Lamine Camara, Tiago, and Biereth.
There was a bit of outrage about the strength of the team in question but at the end of the day, nothing could be done about it.
After the training session, as usual Tyler left with George and Tiago and then back to his apartment. He spent the rest of his day talking with Jasmine on the phone. They relationship had taken a slight advancement. Instead of texting, they straight up called each other for virtually the entire night.
The rest of the week passed a bit peacefully for Tyler. He continued training early with Adi Hutter and Adrian. After that, he would train with the rest of the squad. They had another starters versus reserve match and Tyler impressed once again with his stellar performances causing Adi Hutter to have a headache on the starting lineup.
Finally, it was the day before the match which would take place at Stade Louis II. Adi Hutter read out the players that would be included in the matchday squad. Tyler used every ounce of self control he had in his body to stop himself from pumping a fist as soon as he heard Adi Hutter call out his name. He couldn't stop himself from smiling silly. A few of the senior players congratulated him on making the matchday squad. They saw how hard he worked during training and felt that it was well deserved.
As soon as the players were dismissed, Tyler brought out his phone and called his grandma and telling her the good news. He also called Jasmine, asking her to meet her at a coffee place that was a little close to the Monaco Performance Center. After that, he went to meet some of the staff in the Performance Center and managed to get himself a two tickets to the match.
After he got the tickets, he called his grandma again.
"Hey grandma". Tyler said into the phone. "I just wanted to ask if you wanted to come to-"
Tyler's grandma didn't even let him finish his sentence. "If you dare ask me whether or not I'm coming, I'm going to neuter you when I get to Monaco. Of course I'm coming to watch you, why wouldn't I?"
"I'm just in the squad, grandma. There's a chance I won't play". Tyler said.
"And I'll keep coming to the matches until you do play". Tyler's grandma answered. "To be honest, it all really doesn't make a difference to me. I never really understood that spot. All I knew was to cheer whenever your grandpa cheered and put on his favorite lingerie when he was pissed".
"You are aware that you are talking to your grandson, right?" Tyler was stunned by how raw his grandma was being with him. "Your grandson who's also a minor".
"It's not as if you don't already know about these stuff". Tyler's grandma didn't sound bothered in the slightest. "They teach you these stuff in schools, don't they?"
"Still..." Tyler said. "I don't want to have that image of you in my head".
"Why not?" Tyler's grandma said. As soon as she started with that line, Tyler knew that he dug a trap for himself. "Your grandpa was always excited by it".
"I'm puking right now if you can't see it". Tyler said into the phone. The sound of his grandmother's laughter echoed into his ears and after a few seconds, he burst out laughing as well. Laughter was indeed contagious.
They kept talking for a few minutes, within which Tyler had already gotten to the venue of his meeting with Jasmine. He bid his grandmother goodbye and then got a table and waited there.
A couple of minutes later, Jasmine got to the coffee shop and walked through the door. Tyler waved at her from the table that he reserved for them and she walked over to him.
"Hey" Jasmine said as Tyler stood up and the two of them hugged each other. They then sat opposite each other on the table. "What's up?"
"This". Tyler said as he dropped the ticket for the match against Paris FC.
"You want to watch another game together?" Jasmine asked with a smile on her face. A smile which grew when she realized that there was only one ticket on the table. "No way, you got called up to the matchday squad?!" She shouted, causing a few curious heads to turn towards their table.
"Sorry". She apologized in whispered after rubbing the side of her face awkwardly. "But that's very good news. I'm so happy for you". She took Tyler's hand from across the table and squeezed it in hers.
"I'm happy too". Tyler replied. "I got the ticket so that you could come watch me in case I play. But only if you want".
"Of course I'd want". Jasmine said as Tyler handed her the ticket. "I'd never say no to a free ticket to Stade Louis, and if the price is watching your bum ass trying to kick a football then so be it". Jasmine said with a smile.
"Haha, funny". Tyler replied dryly, even though his lips twitched, threatening to spread into a smile.
"But seriously though, you didn't have to get me the ticket". Jasmine said. "I'd have sold my mum's restaurant even if it was just a tiny chance for me to come and see you play".
Tyler touched his heart and smiled. "It warms my heart that you'd rather your mum be bankrupt and eventually homeless just to see me kick a ball about".
"She wouldn't be bankrupt". Jasmine said. "I'll sell the restaurant and give her the money. I just need enough to get a last minute ticket to a good seat and then I'm good to go".
"A good seat". Tyler noted while laughing.
"A very important thing. I can't sell my mom's restaurant and end up in a row-z seat or something, I'd kill myself".
Tyler laughed again after hearing Jasmine's other comment.
The pair ordered a cup of coffee and sat there, drinking it and laughing as their talks moved on to other topics. Tyler talked about the tutor taking him personal classes after training and Jasmine talked about how school was.
When they were done with their cups, they made their way outside the restaurant and were walking towards Jasmine's house when she stopped all of a sudden and looked towards a direction.
"Hey, I don't want to go home yet". Jasmine said to Tyler.
"Neither do I". Tyler replied with a smile. He had so much fun when he was with her and as much as he liked his roommates, he didn't want to leave her and get back to them just yet.
"I know an amusement park that's not far from here, we could maybe go there and chill for a bit. Maybe a ride a couple of rollercoasters or something". Jasmine said.
Tyler pursed his lips. "We could go there and chill for a bit and definitely not ride a rollercoaster".
Jasmine's eyes twinkled. "You're afraid of rollercoasters? Now we're definitely going". She said as she dragged his hand and led him towards their next escapade of the day.
