Chapter 59: Early Surprise

As the referee blew his whistle, Nouha Dicko (Paris FC striker) kicked the ball deep into his own half. They tapped the ball around for a few seconds, before Mamadou Mbow got a hold of it. He advanced a few steps with the ball then sent a long pass across the field to Mathieu Cafaro (Paris FC right midfielder).

The winger got the ball under control with his first touch and started running down the flank. A couple of Monaco players tried to intercept him, but he managed to pull through and sent a cross into the box as he reached the byline.

The ball zipped across the air and flew into the Monaco's penalty area. The box was a in a bit of disarray due to the earliness and unexpected nature of the attack. In the midst of that chaos, Jean-Phillipe Krasso (Paris FC's left midfielder) thrived. He lingered at the back post and managed to get to the ball with a diving header.

Phillip Kohn had moved a small distance to the near post as he aimed to punch the cross away before it caused any real danger in the box. It was a mild shock to him that the cross was so high and managed to travel quite a far distance so he wasn't at all prepared to make a save. There was nothing he could do as Jean-Phillipe Karsso's header directed the ball towards the back of the net.

In the end, he could only close his eyes as he heard the sound of the ball clashing against the back of the net, the stunned silence of the home fans, and the passionate screaming from the away end which happened to be behind his goalpost.

["Paris FC looking to start things quite quickly, Cafaro has the ball and he's running down the right flank. Not the sight we thought we'd start the match with, as Paris FC look to go on the attack. Cafaro now, he's crossed the ball into the box. JEAN-PHILLIPE KRASSOOOO!!!! GOAL! OH MY WORD! OH. MY. WORD! WOW! I didn't expect to say this at all in this matchup! I certainly did not expect to say this so early in this match! Paris FC have taken the lead! In the home of the giants, they have taken a very very important lead!"]

["Paris FC stunned the stadium into silence, they've stunned the Monaco players into silence. The only thing making sound right now are their passionate supporters and the passionate screams of their players in celebration of their shock goal"]

Tyler stared blankly at the scene in front of him. He felt a little nervous about his debut but his focus was mainly on his performance. He was only worried about playing good or bad as he never had any doubt that his team were going to come out victorious, he never ever thought that they would be a goal down during the course of the game.

At that moment, he remembered the analogy that Adi Hutter used when he was giving them the pre match talk. He said that Paris FC had everything to gain and nothing to lose, and that Monaco had everything to lose. It was at that moment that he realized the truth of that statement.

The Monaco players walked back to their side of the pitch and waited for the Paris FC players to be done with their celebrations so that the match could be restarted. Even though they had gone behind, they still didn't have any doubts about the match. They were shaken, but it would take a lot more than a one goal deficit to make them shaken mentally. In their minds, Paris FC went and poked a hornets' nest, and they would have to get stung.

The next few minutes of the match was basically one way traffic, Monaco kept pushing and pushing for the equalizer. In the next five minutes, they had already made three shots on goal, with one of them being on target.

Even though Monaco were going on a quest for goal, Tyler hadn't had much of the ball. He was spread on the right flank but he really hadn't done anything yet. Then again, there was nothing to do for him, every time he got the ball, he was in a situation where the only thing that he could do was to pass back.

After going into the lead, Paris FC lined up in a shape that would put even Jose Bordalas to shame so there was no space for Tyler to dribble into even if he wanted to brave.

A few more minutes passed and the cycle repeated for Tyler. Receive the ball, turn around and pass back. Eventually he got sick of passing backwards.

'Even if I lose the ball, what's the worst that can happen?' Tyler thought to himself as he received a cross field pass from Mousrati (Monaco central midfielder).

He got the ball under control with is first touch, using his left foot and immediately started driving at Thibault De Smet (Paris FC's left back). He drove towards the edge of the Paris FC penalty box, causing Thibault De Smet to backpedal a bit before he lunged in for a tackle.

Tyler reacted quickly and cut the ball away from the leg and pushed it forward, running away from the defender. Still at the outskirts of the penalty box, Tyler took his chance and sent a long range effort with his weak foot towards the goal.

The shot went better than Tyler expected. It ended up on target even though it turned out to be a routing dive save to the far post for the Paris FC goalkeeper. The Monaco fans in the stadium cheered as he took the shot. He was a seventeen year old making his debut, the fact that he was able to cleanly beat the man marking him made them excited to see how he would turn out as the match progressed.

After his first attempt, Tyler became a lot more confident. he demanded the ball more and took on his man, completing one or two dribbles and creating a chance in the process. Twenty five minutes hadn't passed by and he was already putting up a very good performance.

The rest of the Monaco squad weren't too far off him in terms of performance as well, they just didn't have a goal to show for it.

26'

Once again Monaco finally went on the attack. Carlos Henrique was driving the ball down the left flank. He moved into the opposition half unhindered due to Paris FC's low block and immediately passed to the middle of the pitch as soon as his path was blocked.

Lamine Camara received the ball on the half turn and used a body feint to maneuver past the Paris FC player that tried to pressure him. He sent a pass to his midfield partner who just touched it over to Singo. Wilfried Singo sent a pass forward to Tyler who received it and started charging forward, looking to take on his man once more.

Tyler's legs flashed over the ball as he did a couple of stepovers, and then cut inside. As soon as he moved inside the box, two Paris FC players immediately moved towards him. Tyler didn't waste any time and passed the ball to Mika Biereth who was slightly behind him but in a central position. Biereth returned the pass with his first touch, lifting the ball over the Paris FC defense and into the pass of Tyler who had already started running towards the byline.

With his first touch, Tyler sent a low cross into the box for the Monaco forwards to have a go at. The ball got to Folarin Balogun who made a fake shot, not touching the ball, sending the goalkeeper and a couple of defenders to the right side of the post. That left virtually the entire goalpost for George who got a leg to the ball and smashed it into the back of the net.

["And Monaco again on the ball. They've created chance after chance after chance against Paris FC after they went behind but none of their chances have been able to get into the back of the net. And now it's Wilson. He's been a bit of a bright spark so far hasn't he? He's got the best of his defender multiple times and he's created a couple of chances tonight. Seventeen year old and making his debut and not even a step out of touch"]

["Speaking of steps, the boy wonder has just taken a step into the box. And he lays it of to Mika Biereth. Wow, what a one-two combination from the two players. Wilson plays in the cross and now it's Balogunn-- ooh, he's dummied it! George Ilenikhenna is free and here it goes, it's a goal! George Ilenikhenna has scored the equalizer here tonight! In a night where we thought we were going to witness something special, Monaco have restored the order. It's AS Monaco one, Paris FC one]
