Eman glanced behind and saw a dark figure heading in their direction.
What used to be just a dot in their eyes a moment ago immediately grew into a giant winged creature in the blink of an eye. Its speed is so shocking and astounding.
"It's right behind us!" Zennie cried out.
In just an instant, its jaw was already wide open behind them.
"Sphin!"
"Yes, master. Everyone! Please hold tight!" Sphin's ethereal voice rang in their ears.
Kyahh!
Zennie couldn't hold her scream at the sudden movement. She grabbed Sol's waist tightly.
Unexpectedly, Sol seems very delighted at the situation. She tightened her embrace on Eman, pressing her body onto him.
"Ah~ Scary!" Sol screamed as well, however, no matter how Eman listen to it, her scream had no trace of her being afraid or panicking.
Zennie's scream was genuine and Sol's not.
Eman didn't know what to say, someone seemed like using the situation to her advantage. He was grateful as well though. There was a smooth sensation on his back. Sol has becoming mischievous lately, always trying to seduce him.
Sphin managed to jump away from the attacker's trajectory and avoided its attack. However, it seems that this creature has no intention of letting them off.
After avoiding the attack, the attacker immediately spiraled into the air and flew upwards. It was now ahead of them, flipping its body and rushing toward them once again.
Looking in front, they finally cleared what kind of creature it was.
"Dragon?" Zennie gaped. Her heartbeat quickened and started to feel nervous. Even someone like Zennie knows how dangerous it is.
"It's not an ordinary dragon. It's the guardian of this place," Eman informed them.
"As expected of Eman, you know a lot," Sol smiled.
Eman touched his nose. If it was only him, he would never know what it was, but due to System's wisdom, it's easy for him to figure out what it was.
"This is gonna be troublesome, though." Eman squinted at the attacking dragon.
"Let me deal with it," Sol snapped.
Eh?
Zennie was surprised by Sol's words.
"Miss Sol, it's a dragon though! I don't think it can be dealt with. Look how fierce it looks!"
Sol shrugged. "It's just a flying lizard."
"Wha—- what? What?" Zennie gaped.
She wondered if Sol was just kidding.
Eman did tell her that Sol was also a student of the Magic Academy like him, so she should be good with magic invocation as well. She wasn't sure how strong her magic powers were, but they were talking about dragons here. And it wasn't just any ordinary dragons. Eman mentioned that it was a guardian dragon, so it should be much stronger than ordinary ones.
She had never heard of someone belittling such a creature. Not even the expert and high-level mercenaries and knights who often visited the Rothsport town would look down upon such an entity that surely stood at the apex of the beast hierarchy as the fiercest predator.
"Relax. There's no need to kill it," Eman said.
"Okay," Sol nodded.
Hearing their casual exchange, Zennie opened her mouth and then closed it. She wanted to say something but couldn't.
Sphin's agile movements had once again evaded the guardian dragon's attack. But the guardian dragon was relentless. It seemed it didn't want to let them escape no matter what.
It once again appeared behind them trying to catch up.
As a flying mount, Sphin's speed wasn't slow either, but the guardian dragon's speed was just unparalleled. It caught up with them quickly.
Sensing the target's elusiveness, the guardian dragon opened its jaw widely, following that was a thunderous roar, then a torrent of wind streams shot forward.
Perceiving the danger from behind, Sphin suddenly flapped its wing wildly, barely evading the wind vortex that shot like beams at them.
The guardian dragon continued its barrage. Sphin jumped from left to right, successfully evading another wind vortex.
Sphin then descended in a diagonal fall.
The guardian dragon is still chasing though. It opened its massive jaw once again and breathed a strong wind storm after roaring.
Borrowing strength from its wings, Sphin suddenly ascended, causing the dragon's attack to miss once again.
Aside from Eman and Sol who looked calm, Zennie could only cling tightly to Sol's waist. And because it was dizzying to see the speed of their movements, she had to close her eyes tightly. She didn't know what was going on, but the guardian dragon still didn't seem to let them go. She can still hear its heart-rending roars and the strange noise of the wind.
Rawr!!!
The guardian dragon roared again, and an even stronger wind torrent shot from its mouth.
Eman noticed that they could no longer evade it, so he immediately ordered Sphin to use the Sonic Blast.
"Yes, master!"
Sphin jumped and spun around, facing the oncoming strong wind that was coming at them at high speed. Before it hit them, Sphin suddenly hummed.
Haaah~~
Sphin's humming was not as loud as the guardian dragon's roar, but from Sphin's mouth, a strange invisible force collided with the wind.
The wind torrent immediately deviated as if it collided with an unbreakable invisible barrier.
Sphin flew upward and the guardian dragon continued chasing them. On the other hand, the deviated wind torrent landed on the mountain nearby and caused a long large fissure on its surface. Large and small trees flew in the air along with dust, soil, and gravel.
"Are you sure we're letting it?" Sol whispered.
Eman frowned.
The System said that guardian dragons are intelligent creatures that are capable of communication through telepathy. It has a mind of its own. He never doubted System's words. Everything the System told him since day one all came out true, so he had a lot of trust in it.
However, this time, he tried several times to try to initiate a conversation with the guardian dragon using telepathy, but it seemed to have no effect. He did not receive any response from it and it continued to attack them.
'System, what's the meaning of this?'
[Host, upon careful analyzing, I found out this poor creature seems to be not in its clear mind. It's under a bad status.]
Eman squinted, his face looked serious. 'Do you mean it's under control by a third party?'
[Yes, host.]
"….."
Eman did not expect that.
"Change of plan, we're going to beat it."
Hearing him, Sol's lips curved upward.
Zennie shot open her eyes. "What?!" Did she hear him correctly?
