Zhou Su opened his eyes in a daze. A brilliant starfield poured into his gaze, and there was nothing beneath his feet.“If I fall from this height, won’t I just splatter and die?”He snapped fully awake and looked around in shock and uncertainty. He wasn’t falling. His body floated in the void.“Where the hell did I get dragged to?”He remembered returning to the new place, then blacking out from the side effects of soul weakening…He took in the surrounding sea of stars, and a surge of information suddenly welled up in his mind. He understood where he was.“This is actually… the spirit sea!”Zhou Su froze, feeling like life had gone fantastical on him.Back during cultivation, he’d racked his brains to perceive the spirit sea and got absolutely nowhere. Now he’d done nothing, just slept—and suddenly he was in.No. It wasn’t because he slept.Zhou Su shot down that guess. If it were that easy, there wouldn’t be so few enlightened masters recorded in history.According to the Golden Spirit Canon, perceiving the spirit sea is also called “meditative absorption,” and only true masters can achieve it.His gaze was suddenly drawn to a “red planet”—a star reeking of ill omen, like a giant egg, hanging in the starry sky, utterly out of place among the rest.A corner of the shell was broken. Through the gap, he could see inside: an iron-gray sky, a blood-colored ground…That was clearly the cage that had imprisoned him before.Zhou Su suddenly understood what was going on. The whole thing wasn’t complicated.Sensing the spirit sea is like searching for a hidden islet on a boundless ocean. You’re the owner of that islet—but unfortunately you don’t know its coordinates, so you can imagine the difficulty. It’s no easier than finding a needle in a haystack. But the fact that you can’t do it doesn’t mean others can’t.A powerful robber not only found the islet, he tied you to it and forced you to sign a transfer deed, intending to swallow everything you own.Luckily you were fortunate enough to escape that cage.Once you know where the islet is, of course you can return with ease.“The Headless General’s contributions are still piling up.” Zhou Su couldn’t help praising it.Only those who’ve cultivated know how hard it is to perceive the spirit sea. Without the Headless General’s “help,” who knows how many years it would have taken.Zhou Su suddenly felt something. He looked up toward the void. Something up there was calling to him. His soul-body drifted upward, rising higher and higher. He stopped abruptly. What hung high above cowed him, blanking his mind for an instant.A colossal sun disk floated overhead. Violet-black flames filled his entire vision. Before this black great sun, he felt infinitesimal. He knew the source of the black sun in an instant. It was the violet-black light point that had fused into his brow when he purchased the Guide to Awakening Dusk Power. In reality the point had been only thumb-sized, but here in the mental space its manifestation was a great sun.A suction rose from the black sun. Zhou Su had no strength to resist and was pulled into the center of the sun. What flowed in those flames wasn’t heat, but a far more terrifying power of annihilation. He had the illusion that his soul would collapse in the next moment. But inexplicably, he felt no panic. He sat cross-legged. His left hand formed the Immovable Seal, his right the Visualization Seal. These were all drawn from the Guide to Awakening Dusk Power.Zhou Su slowly closed his eyes, cleared the clutter from his mind, and began to meditate. His Spirit Terrace grew crystal clear. Slowly, he felt himself become a black sun, radiating endless light. His soul stabilized, no longer showing signs of collapse. He sat upright at the center of the black great sun, like a transcendent in drifting flame—divinity manifest, majesty revealed. He didn’t know how long had passed when he suddenly felt a repulsive force, like a ball pushed under water—deeper and deeper until water pressure squeezed it out.Zhou Su separated from the black great sun. His whole body was filled with a sense of “swelling,” like an overinflated balloon.“At the limit.”He opened his eyes. Violet-black flame flashed deep within his pupils. What he’d just been doing was the second stage of Dusk Power cultivation: meditating on the black sun.Normally, a single meditation wouldn’t be that short, but his soul was too weak to withstand the black flame’s baptism. Same principle as a frail body that can’t take tonics. He looked down over himself. Things were already very different. Before, his soul-body had been semi-transparent, extremely weak, like a wisp of green smoke that might be blown away at any time. Now his form had grown solid—at least not the sort to shatter at a touch.“The black great sun can actually repair the soul!”Joy lit Zhou Su’s brows. This was a massive surprise. At the same time, he understood the essence of the second-stage Dusk Power cultivation: turn the soul from insubstantial to “solid.”“Solid” here obviously didn’t mean becoming corporeal—that’s far too hard. It meant becoming fully solidified within /N_o_v_e_l_i_g_h_t/ the spirit sea.He still had a long way to go to reach that stage.Zhou Su had planned to exit the spirit sea, but he suddenly paused. An idea had come to him.The “blood-red giant egg” floated quietly before him. He returned to that once-perilous place. After a moment’s thought, he slipped in through the missing corner. The instant he entered the blood domain, gravity hit him again and his body fell. When Zhou Su planted his feet on the blood-colored ground, the Headless General’s shadow surfaced behind him once more. But he didn’t panic this time. The entrance and exit of this region had been punched through. He could leave whenever he wished. While meditating on the black sun, he’d gained some insight into its capabilities, so he’d come back to verify a hypothesis. The pitch-black shadow crept up. Zhou Su was already experienced at actively merging with the heart-demon. When the shadow rose past his chest, the Heart-Clearing Jade Pendant appeared in time and stopped its spread.Zhou Su drew a deep breath and began meditating on the black sun in his mind.Seeing its escaped prey appear again, the Headless General’s shadow writhed in excitement. The invading gloom surged wave after wave.Just then, the sky suddenly darkened, as if thick ink had been smeared across the iron-gray firmament. There was, of course, no day–night cycle here. The sky darkened because something was covering this place. The blood-light was replaced by violet-black radiance. The Headless General’s shadow seemed to sense something. Its frenzied invasion halted at once. The violet-black great sun descended. It hovered outside the blood domain. Its cold light poured through the shattered opening, like a gigantic black eye gazing down with indifference. This was the new ability Zhou Su had grasped: in any corner of the mental space, he could summon down the black sun through meditation. The possessing shadow twisted, turning into black tentacles that writhed madly, like squid feelers roasting over flame.Zhou Su suddenly put away the Heart-Clearing Jade Pendant and increased the force of his active merge—because he keenly sensed the black shadow wanted to flee. The shadow tried to detach; Zhou Su would not allow it. In that instant, the situation reversed. Two opposing forces acted at once, and the adhered shadow tore like half-ripped black glue.Zhou Su felt a flicker of gratitude for his foresight. He chose to merge first, then summon the black sun. Otherwise, if the shadow dove into the ground, the black sun wouldn’t be able to do a thing to it.Of course, that was also because Zhou Su’s cultivation wasn’t there yet. If he could fully command the black sun, there’d be no need for the hassle. He’d only need to summon it. One sweep of black light and the entire blood domain would vanish like smoke.Zhou Su marveled inwardly at the power of the Guide to Awakening Dusk Power. He’d only reached the second stage, hadn’t truly cultivated Dusk Power, and he could already deal with an existence like the Headless General. Worthy of a Purple-Mythical—Incomplete item.Thinking about it now, the Blood Moon’s pricing for the Guide to Awakening Dusk Power was basically giving it away.A heart-boring pain suddenly tore through him. Zhou Su felt like his body was about to ignite—and like someone was sprinkling a wide sheet of white salt across burned flesh. He’d used the same trick himself. Now the wheel had turned. Through the channel of fusion, the shadow shared with him the pain it was suffering. The Heart-Clearing Jade Pendant’s light blossomed again—not to stop the shadow, but to keep him conscious. Zhou Su feared he’d faint from the intensity of the pain.“Hold on. Hold on.”He kept cheering himself on, enduring the agony racking his body—because he could see hope of annihilating the shadow.Billowing black smoke poured off the shadow. The Headless General’s shadow was being vaporized, and its presence was visibly beginning to drop.
