Without some sad past, how could one be a qualified task-taker?
Seeing Wen Xing and Mei Ziqing like this, Ning Shu was starting to feel like she was the abnormal one.
Ning Shu looked at her hands; was she incapable of love?
She only questioned herself briefly, then she let go of it.
Everyone has their own way of living; Ning Shu wasn't too concerned about these things.
People were either of the type that were solitary or the type that shone brightly. Ning Shu felt she was the solitary type.
People were contradictory anyway. They fear loneliness when surrounded by crowds, crave solitude when surrounded by noise, never seeming to know what was really right.
Ning Shu stretched and felt refreshed.
Loneliness shouldn't make one seek someone just to end it.
The carriage swayed as it proceeded, but then suddenly stopped. The horses whinnied.
Everyone's bodies jerked forward, then fell back heavily.
Mei Ziqing lifted the curtain and asked the coachman, "What's wrong?"
The coachman pointed at the ground; a child who looked about five years old lay there unconscious.
"Why is there a child?" Mei Ziqing frowned.
Ning Shu jumped down and approached the child.
"Be careful." Crossbow Lar protected Ning Shu.
Ning Shu grabbed the child's collar and shook him. "Wake up."
Mei Ziqing got off the carriage. "Do you know this child?"
"No, just encountered him once." Ning Shu shook the child hard.
The child opened his eyes and reached to scratch Ning Shu's face; Ning Shu threw him away.
The boy fell with a thud, kicking up dust.
Everyone: …
So brutal!
The boy got up and shouted, "You hateful woman!"
Ning Shu chuckled; she hadn't forgotten the boy stabbing dead moon beasts' corpses relentlessly last night.
Mei Ziqing rubbed her brow tiredly. "Is this your son?"
"Eff off, how could my son be a weapon?" Ning Shu said in an annoyed tone, her eyes pausing on Mei Ziqing's wrist.
Mei Ziqing hadn't rested well and looked exhausted. She kept rubbing her brow, and with that motion, showed her wrist which had a faint red mark.
The mark wasn't obvious, but Ning Shu took note.
The boy growled and charged towards Ning Shu like a little tiger cub, baring his teeth.
Ning Shu held his head down; the boy clawed wildly but couldn't reach her.
"What do you want?" Ning Shu asked. "If you don't say, I'll snap you in two. What kind of weapon are you?"
Mei Ziqing glanced at a faint mark on the boy's hand. "How did you end up provoking a fallen weapon?"
"He's a fallen weapon?" Mei Ziqing's five weapons were surprised. "No wonder he feels off."
