Chapter 134: Guests and Personnel

Arthur had taken a bit bigger role when Lurt was put it seemed. The daring save seemed to give him quite the favorable reputation. And when Kurt saw him at the gate to see who Midas was bringing he felt compelled.

"Arthur, I wanted to thank you for saving my life."

"Don't think too much of it, I don't think you did nothing in there. And really it was a lucky shot."

"I guess that's true," said Kurt, "But still, I thought I was done for real."

"We would have all been dead if it didn't work. I couldn't have taken it head on, no way. I wouldn't have lasted for more than a moment. Luckily that was all I needed in the end, one moment he thought we were all done for and his guard was down, just for that. I only get one shot at that move I'm completely spent after."

"Still."

"I know, but that's the way it happens, you save him, he saves you, you can't keep track when you're on the same side."

"Tell that to the goblins," said Kurt.

"The concept may be beyond them, I'm afraid."

"So what do you think about this?" Kurt said waving at their new guests from Midas, the gate was moved to a section without anything at but near the warehouses still.

"I mean, it makes sense if you can bring the goblins to them, that's a threat. There is no other way a military would see it. And doubly once one of them spots the Minotaurs. And it is not like this force is capable of taking you, even without you and me. But it would make it difficult for you to surprise them completely."

"We'll keep them contained for me, Joshua usually runs the gate. Let him know. It would be better to have someone, and someone that is not me, being the blood and all," said Kurt, giving Arthur a pat on the back.

"As you wish, my lord."

"And remember Shaman Joshua is in charge, make sure they know that, it is important they understand how we work."

The men had made a tent city, and Arthur had told the gnomes to build a proper housing for them, nothing special. They weren't exactly the most welcomed of guests. Joshua had rotations of goblins as a presence as well. But everything was tense but peaceful. But everything was appropriate for the situation.

Kurt had decided to visit Jacob again in the eleven village. And found him hard at work actually.

"Hey, what's up man," said Jacob, " I heard dad saved your butt."

"I guess he did," said Kurt. "So what have you been doing?"

"Listen these elves," he brought Kurt closer, "they mate just like us."

"Come on now?"

"Well there is this one."

"Really?"

"Dude the guy with Harp, have you heard him."

"Yeah, that…is something else. But I don't know how the rest of them would feel about that?"

"But it's not against the law or anything? I mean the difference isn't really much. You can see that, a little slimmer, the ears, and a few odd portions. From a distance you could mistreat us."

"Umm, I don't know."

"Well who would? My lord."

"Can we talk about something else, I think you should keep it in your pants for a minute."

"You haven't heard what she says to me dude, they got some freak in them."

"I mean if it's consensual…"

"Got you," Jacob winked at Kurt.

After that friendly conversation. They talked a bit about how the griffin saddles were hard, but Jacob had learned a lot. And he thought he could ride one of the larger rams if he made one for a human. Which Kurt had no problems with. Kurt began discussing with Jacob about some of his problems, and the idea of being in some glass blowers was thrown around for a bit. If they could find some willing. Especially for Kurt's healing paste.

And then Jacob brought the big question of how he was going to get paid for some of his work, as an apprentice he was willing to learn but eventually he wanted to sell his own, or take part in something that was selling. Kurt really needed a person for all this, he couldn't stay with Carl alone, but who can you trust with money in this world or the other one?

So the situation remained within a Montgomery Warehouse, and the movement of products crossing the border. But this time with bit more officials present.

The barracks for the officers was mundane and just a long hall. Kurt felt if they wanted to build something they would have to figure out something better. Have to think more like a Lord right.

He came and saw Sara, who was running her own operation at the Dutchery. Their forces were training as well. Some of the goatmen had joined her court. But of course everyone was dismissed when Kurt arrived.

"Hey, thank the gods, those people you won't believe how much they complain," said Sara.

"Would you call me a pushover?"

Sara laughed, "only every day of your life."

"Really?"

"Come on dude, you somehow just followed your way to this lordship, it's just me here. I was there."

"Fuck," said Kurt.

"So you're going to stay that way? Look at me, all responsible like, please take me away it explains itself. I'll suffer Talia," Sara put out her arms and hands together sarcastically begging. "You don't have to do anything, just go somewhere I leave with you."

"Huh?"

"For important discussions with the lord."

"About that?"

"Kurt, that was a joke," Sara put down a defeated face.

Kurt's general idea was to go on a hiring spree. They need more humans for this interaction to all work. Sara suggested she get Laura to help, that might help her feel better about the whole thing. Kurt didn't object that Laura always had a good sense for people, humans at least.

So it had at least given Sara more excuses to leave the Dutchery so she seemed happy with the idea. They wanted some bookkeepers, and some smiths and some glass blowers, but they would have to know how to make the correct forges. As well as a couple more guards.
