Chapter 138: So Paul?

The last situation took talking to Paul. Kurt hoped he's say no, but yes. He didn't even know anymore. It be better for the settlement nation? He built for Carla to stay. But on the other hand, a goblin guardian on earth? How was that a good idea?

Paul was the fae in the Arrow mountains, the fae on the human's side of the gate. He was being very quiet. Living peacefully. Fae are normally solitary creatures. And the area was peaceful enough.

But Paul wasn't traumatized like Jessica. Kurt was not expecting that reaction. He was always outside of it. Face to face. Like a gargling man heard in the distance, at least in Kurt distant mind.

So they would have to ask. It not like he could say no to Layla here and there was no reason not to put it off.

"At least we'll know right?" said Layla.

Kurt suggested that Harvey come to, as Paul had always seemed to have a liking for him. At least butter him up a bit. Realistically one goblin, was only one goblin. Layla had convinced Kurt. No matter how powerful. There was little difference as they could move the guardians between wells, including Paul's.

"Look how big you've gotten!" Said Paul as he came towards Harvey, petting all three of its heads.

"Pretty fairy, pretty fairy," said Harvey. Snuggling it three heads entwined in Paul's arms..

"It's Paul, can you say Paul."

"Paul, Paul, Paul," said Harvey's head as he hopped. Harvey was the size of a very large dog now, and that was without raising it heads high. He probably could support Kurt's weight by now really.

"So what brought you here? your majesty," said Paul, getting up and bowing, "and Sir Kurt. A pleasure as always."

"We are in a bit of a bind," said Kurt.

"Ohh and I can help?"

"Maybe, how do you feel about a guardian?"

"You mean this guy?" said Paul, petting Harvey.

"No, it's Carla, she wants a guardianship."

"And how does that work?"

"Well," said Layla, "she would present her best and you would decide then."

"Ohh that sounds fun," said Paul, "I do need a guardian. And Carla, that's the goblin's mother, yes?"

"Yes," said Kurt.

"I've heard good things about her," said Paul.

"So you're willing to have an introduction?" said Layla.

"Of course your majesty," said Paul.

They talked and decided it would best to do everything tomorrow. Kurt brought up Carla was having something in the 'Mom's Club'. And they would have to get Travis, Thomas and Simon to come.

The next day though, Paul came to Layla's throne room. As far as a fae could go without a guardian in Layla's Network his range was limited inside another fae well.

Travis, Thomas and Simon came forward to him. Their status adorned them. They were the largest goblins of their kind. And their presence showed it.

"As you can see my goblins can breed the finest, any of these warriors deserve merit," said Carla.

Paul came closer to the goblin, looking at them. "Ohh I agree, and so specialized."

"Strength is the goblin's way, but strength without any purpose is useless" said Travis.

"Yes," said Paul. "I've heard something similar."

"Knowledge is the path to victory," said Thomas, "knowing your strengths and their weaknesses."

"That is a wise way," said Paul, "timid sometimes though, you don't need to know everything to win."

Simon spoke, "winning is about control. Of power the battle field, the skies and the ground. The flow and the power."

"Can you control everything though?" said Paul.

"It's about how you're remembered," said Carla, "control, knowledge and strength, even purpose. And the only way to be remembered is through victory, Glory. Legacy."

"I agree, how you are remembered is the only thing, many great people have used each of these strategies," said Paul.

"So what is your decision?" said Layla.

"Yes of course."

"So who?" said Kurt.

Paul had already been walking towards a goblin, "what do you mean who?" And one of the goblins disappeared.

Warlord Travis, Ranger Thomas, High Shaman Simon stood there, without anyone behind them. Kurt looked at Layla, and she was looking back at him.

"What just happened?"

"I think Paul…thought we were talking about…"

"Carla!?!? As the the fucking guardian?"

"Umm…" said Layla.

"Crap," thinking back at what they were saying to each other. From one perspective. "Did he think this the whole time? How long does it take?"

"It's probably done already," said Layla. "I mean it's kind of a quick process, you just have to be at the well to do it."

The three goblins in front of them started to bulge, and grow and a light glow began. It was a noticeable increase in size for them, except Simon. He was still short.

"What was that?" said Kurt.

"I feel a lot stronger," said Travis swinging his arms about. "Carla, the mother has blessed us more."

Layla and Kurt slipped back to Paul's well.

"So, I can do that oath now" said Carla.

"What happened?" said Kurt looking at Paul.

"You said Carla wanted a guardianship." Crap, he did say it like that. That's not what he meant. "And wanted to show off their brood to convince me. Consider me convinced. Together they work. And Carla seems to know that."

"I agree," said Carla.

"This isn't what you meant," said Layla.

"But it is how it is," said Carla smiling, "my demand is satisfied, my broods are yours, your majesty."

Layla turned towards Kurt, "this wasn't my idea I swear."

Kurt knew you can't undue it, without killing one of them. It happened so fast. Paul, did you want this? Kurt didn't know what this would change, but it was likely now when Carla was giving birth to her broods, they would be stronger and growing in the arrows mountains now. The wrong side of the gate for it to be happening. It could be dealt with probably. Hopefully.

"Master," Harvey pushed one of his head into Kurt's hand.Kurt petted the head like a good little boy. It would have probably been better take Paul up on making Harvey a guardian he thought in passing.
