They didn't really find anyone on their trip. Betsy suggested building the housing first this time, instead of what they had been doing. She saw the gnomes being helped fill but needed some direction.
Kurt had come to Talia Castle today. There was no particular reason; they were engaged, so technically things like this were expected. Justin was the one at the well though.
"Sir Kurt," said Justin, "I believe Lady Talia is in her room."
"Thank you, how've you been?"
"As well as we can be, it's a little tense here after your last visit."
"Sorry about that."
"Not at all this helps my position as well, the other fae were already intrigued by what Layla did."
"I think we have a few goblins for the exchange we talked about."
"That's good."
"So no crazy dragon movements, I'm not walking into some battle scene? Isn't the king like making a blockade or something?
"No I don't believe so, things are happening behind closed doors. The situation is tense because of the blessing, there has been a lot of discussion about it."
"I'm sure, but it doesn't have anything to do with me."
"I'm sure they all see it that way…" Justin smiled.
Kurt made his way to Talia's room and knocked on the door. "What is it now?" she screamed back.
"Nothing at all," and he heard footsteps scurrying to the door, which opened.
"Kurt," Talia gave him a huge hug," what are you doing here?"
"I don't know, I missed you."
"Aww."
List came into Talia's room, she had basically a whole apartment, so the bedroom was still in another room. He took a seat on the chair, and Talia took it upon herself, to get up on Kurt's lap.
"So I didn't hear you miss me?" said Kurt.
Talia kissed Kurt's neck and whispered into his ear, "Of course I missed you."
"So how's the Valentine clan?"
"You know, the little uppity countess just claimed the crown," said Talia, "really bothers her, everyone says so." Countess Talia was of course talking about herself.
"Claimed?"
"Well not really, but it's clear now. And they won't leave me alone about it Kurt."
"So what's your schedule today? Can I come along?"
"Of course you can, not very much really though."
Kurt is taking his sweet time talking to Talia. Her legs were softly touched by his hands the whole time. She smiled at him with those green aura eyes. The conversation was interrupted a few times with a few kisses.
It had come about time for Talia to take up some actual duties. She had gotten ready and they walked through the castle arm in arm. They came to Talia's throne room and Kurt was given a chair next to her. It was mostly normal ministers. A simple update was given, about things Kurt didn't know much about.
"Is Nathan available?" said Talia.
"He should be," one of Talia's people said, "he can take off some maintenance work for this."
"Kurt," said Talia, and Kurt snapped back into attention at his name, "Nathan is one of the lead engineers, he would be the one to talk to about rails."
"That would be great."
After a short meeting, Talia and Kurt made their way out of the castle toward the train station. The flying island in the sky still hovered. Darien was up there still. Kurt hoped he would just ignore him this time.
They found their way into a part of the station Kurt had never been into before, and a large lift was holding up one of the train cars. This must have been where they built or maintained them. It was a large open warehouse-type building, with doors large enough for cars, and rails leading to them.
"Nathan?" said Talia. And a man piped his head around. His face was dirty and so were his hands and shirt. Black stains, he was working under one of the cars. And came over.
"My lady?"
"Nathan, this is Lord Kurt, my fiancé, the one who will be taking a few of you to his domain."
"Ohh," said Nathan, putting out his hand, then looking at it, shaking it off and putting it away, "sorry, I wasn't expecting."
"It's fine, I didn't announce myself."
"So, we have a few guys, and Talia of course."
"Talia?"
"My ground powers help a lot with leveling the land for the rails."
"It's one of the perks," said Nathan.
Kurt and Nathan talked about the set and plan. That they would need to survey the best way through.
"Oh, the river runs the same way?"
"Yeah, I guess,"
"That helps a few boats instead of hauling it. It is easy to take a lot of stuff on water. It can get heavy until you get a proper engine. And that's pointless until there are rails. We can always use the rails as well, and pull with a horse."
They talked more about the other way. The general idea Kurt had was quick access to the outposts to start, and work out from there. But they had a plan now. Kurt also asked how they wanted to live, in their homes. Nathan thought about it and said he was going to ask the crew individually, he didn't want to make the decision himself. Talia told him he could contact her. And they could go there when he was ready.
After their meeting, Talia had Kurt all to herself. They had a meal together. And ended near the farm land.
"It is beautiful this time of year, with it all in bloom just before harvest."
"Yeah, it is," said Kurt, "ohh my gods," Kurt pointed at a figure in the distance, "is that a pixie?"
"Yeah they are super annoying, I don't know how to get rid of them. We get it you only live for a few days so you take advantage…"
"I thought Layla was a pixie the first time I saw her," and they laughed at the thought.
"So the other nobles," said Talia, "they sort of want to see us, the dragon."
"I'm not sure that's a good idea."
"Me either," said Talia, "but, we should talk to him again."
"With everyone?"
"Of course not…at first…." said Talia.
"What are you thinking?"
"Well, you are a guy."
"What does that have to do with anything?"
"Well…most guys have this fantasy…of riding a dragon."
"Go on…" said Kurt.
"Well I was thinking we would ride him to the offering after next, I think I can get that."
"Oh, I can see the flying island."
"Maybe," said Talia, "but it would give us time with him first."
