The rest of the day went off as anyone would expect a celebration. But by the next day, the party had died. Nothing exactly changed for most people, Layla was queen in all but name until yesterday.
He was having a report and a meal with his full council. A tradition from the eleven dealing with different clans among them.
"There is something we can report," said a goblin.
"Go ahead," said Kurt.
"As you know we have been dealing with the Valentine clan in trying to find some allied species among their lands."
"Because we can translate their languages. We had to start moving down the coast because of a particularly dangerous territory."
"Yes my lord, we have managed to make deals with some smaller communities of creatures. Unfortunately, nothing too substantial in size but a network is slowly forming…This is not important. It's that we have found a wyvern den."
"A wyvren den?" said Kurt.
"Yes, a variety that would be suitable mounts for us," said the goblin.
"That's great news," said Hank. "If we can tame them."
"There are quite a lot of them, which is a blessing and a curse. They are also quite far from the gate, we only followed them and spotted the den, so much of the path is still a bit unknown." said the goblin. "But it is there and trying to get much closer may draw their attention."
"Yes," said Tom, "we want more but the more they have the more dangerous they become."
"Precisely," said the goblin. "So we are asking for the troops to do so. Our small group is not enough. They would outnumber us by a lot."
"What's really important is ensuring we get enough to breed," said Joe.
"Surpring you want to give up the only flying position," said Hank.
"It's not all it's cracked up to be. As the only one, I'm constantly flying."
"Don't be thinking you're getting one of them," said Tom. "Rider Hawks are faster, we still need that." Joe looked a little dissatisfied with that reply.
"Can we draw up a plan?" Said Kurt to Tom.
"Yes sir," said Tom.
"Consult with Tom," said Kurt looking at the unfamiliar goblin, "and tell me when we are ready."
"Yes, sir," said the goblin.
Talia had snuggled up to Kurt during the informal meeting. The subject matter was basically anything and everything for these. "There is something we need to talk about."
"Ohh," Talia said, stroking his crest, "privately I hope."
"It's important, but yes privately it would be better."
They continued the discussion. Most of it had to do with how the land had finally started to fill out and creatures were starting to make their home in certain places. The river needed more boats to access.
There was a lot of progress on the train to and from the Dutchery and the pillar, the path had been decided and the flattening of the land had been going on. It would be soon when the first tracks would be placed.
After the meeting, Talia stayed behind.
"So Horus is also interested in Valentine's gate."
"What? Kurt, I can't."
"I know, no one can."
"And Darien will do what Horus says."
"Yeah," said Kurt.
"What does he want?"
"For Layla to open it fully, and after that I don't know."
"Like he has the right."
"But doesn't he? Your leader was chosen by one of his servants. Darien."
"Crap, you're technically right."
"And to him that might be all he needs to justify anything. From a certain perspective, you are already a vassal state under him. A perspective he would take."
"Damn. That's probably why he crowned Layla himself."
"Probably. Outwardly we are technically under Horus now. Not that we had much of a choice. We were planning on the gods being here for the crowning."
"So he can just walk in and everything just turns to his favor and under his rule?"
"Kind of annoying isn't it?"
"Very. And if Darien tells everyone it's basically over. We were supposed to take over."
"Huh?"
"Our marriage, remember, heir to the throne over here and you are you."
"So that's still why you are doing this?"
"Kurt, really? We talked about this. That's how it started but I don't have to be so…"
Kurt grabbed her and gave her a kiss while Talia blushed. "Just making sure." She smiled back and then grabbed Kurt's ass unexpectedly.
"Okay, I get it."
"Ohh soooo, you can whenever you want to…" Talia said sarcastically while looking up into the air. Kurt interrupted her with another kiss and a grab of her ass of his own.
"Yes."
"So about our wedding…"
After a lengthy conversation about their upcoming wedding. Kurt was basically agreeing to most of what Talia had already decided and wanted his 'input' on.
Later that day he had gotten a visit from Sara.
"Hey, so I thought I'd give you an update."
"An update on what?"
"My parents."
"What does that have to do with me?"
"No, I mean the cattle range and stuff."
"What about it?"
"They apparently love it here."
"Huh?"
"Yeah, like the land or something the cows are happy, active, and eating. And umm mating quite often."
"That's great news, maybe we can have a whole steak shop, or carriage, or whatever."
"Yeah they were worried they would run off but the taming process makes everyone's life easier."
"So that's why you're here?"
"Yeah, they umm," she scratched the back of her head, "want to buy more."
"Buy?"
"Well, the farm is considerably bigger here. Normally you buy them young from farms that can't hold as many, but the turnaround is a long time."
"So you're asking for money?"
"Sort of, it's kind of a big investment."
"Then ask Betsy," said Kurt.
"She's gonna ask you, if she even likes the idea at all. And it is not like her superior, she made that clear."
"Huh," said Kurt. "She doesn't have a…"
"She says she reports directly to you," said Sara. "And Layla I guess."
"I guess that's true," said Kurt.
"This is good news I swear, even if we have to invest. Having a lot more now will pay off. We wouldn't ask if we didn't think that."
"I don't have many problems with it. Just do you have people to do it?"
"You're not understanding that taming them with goblins makes a lot of the work much easier."
"So you can already handle more in just a few weeks."
"Yes. Sure eventually we will need more people."
"Well then, we may need some help from your people."
"Help?"
"The goblins have found a wyvern nest they need people to take and tame them."
"I can arrange that, I've got some people itching to prove themselves. Just goblins or can some of the elves and Minotaurs?"
"I think it will be good with everything, talk to one of my council they will get you to the right goblins to discuss it. I'll talk with Betsy about the purchases."
Things seemed to be mostly going Kurt's way today, and as always that made him a bit nervous. The goblins had a clear way to become much stronger by adding several wyverns, Sara's parents could start a blooming beef business with a little help.
