Chapter 199: Wyvern Breath

The next time, the same group of people came out, and their wyverns were nearby, having all found their right match.

"Okay," said Todd, "we are going to fly for a while this time. And take a trip around the domain. We hope the various people there will let the wyvern drink some of the fae water. We are unsure how much effect it will have. And it's unlikely all of them will even have the same effects from the same springs. We are going to have them drink a few and see if any have a particularly strong effect. We have a few choices here."

"I can go to the Dutchery, that shouldn't be much of a problem. There is a spring that I know of there."

They had three more places, Jessica's, Layla's, and the fae Tiffany, whom Betsy was the guardian of. Kurt had had much contact with her. There were also Paul and Barney.

"This is good so we can split into groups and they won't all be fighting. What we want to focus on is maintaining control over speed and elevation. We are going to kick it up a notch but we shouldn't be near their top speed. They may want to move about the formation sometimes don't fight that too much."

They split off into their groups, Kurt was going to Jessica's well first as they needed to talk to them. And none of the goblins had wanted to run into Ishtar or Rosie.

They did move a lot faster, they had started by running through the canyon a bit, and they had wanted to show how the wyverns would avoid hitting the walls themselves but soon after they all split off in their various directions. The instructor pushed them all much higher than they had all gone before.

The instructor rushed forward and then made a stop in front of everyone. The group attempted to do the same but most missed the mark by a bit an ungracefully full closer.

"Good," said the instructor, "learn how much you have before you get him to stop. We are going to come down a bit away from the outpost. Follow me."

They came down a bit from the outpost and the instructor told Kurt he should probably go and make sure everything is alright before they continued.

He was greeted by Rosie and Jessica.

"Sir Kurt, he seems to have some pets," said Rosie.

"Umm yes, that's sort of why we are here."

"You wanted to see if someone could use my flames," said Jessica.

"Yes."

"These people do not all look like our people," said Jessica.

"That's true."

"You know my dislike for humans, they will not be partaking themselves, and if you could pass along to keep it just the goblins."

"If these are not your people," said Rosie, "I must agree. Unless they have a tribute for Ishtar."

"I don't believe we do."

"You're here now, walk them in," said Jessica. "It's not their fault, poor little guys, they have to carry around a bunch of humans. Humans can stay outside."

"That seems reasonable," said Kurt.

Kurt came back and the instructor and a few goblins from inside led the wyvern into the outpost. After a few moments, they had returned.

The instructor came out and spoke after they had gotten ready. "Okay, so generally wyverns would have two commands, Firaga and disrak, firaga would be a prolonged flame and Disrak would be a short burst."

The instructor came up to one of the wyverns that had a noticeably different coloring, not as solid as before, with orange and red scales now. "This one however seems to have gotten an enhancement boost, his claws should be noticeably harder and sharper, he should be quicker and resistant to some damage, most likely other fire sources. From what we can tell the wyvern will get this type of enhancement, two separate short bursts or one long more powerful flame. But not a combination of that. It's possible some can though but it might be weaker versions."

"And it's not consistent," said one of the Valentine's.

"Yes, we will be trying a few so if nothing really seems to have happened or it's weak we might have better luck there."

From there they headed toward Tiffany's well. They flew even higher than lower, the instructor ensuring they were making proper turns and could control their height, making a few stops and slow downs.

Tiffany's outpost was fairly ordinary. The fae are generally solitary creatures and can spend weeks alone without much worry enjoying their existence and the warmth of their well.

Jacob's group was still there when Kurt arrived. The instructors had a talk, Kurt overheard and it was about Jessica's well. They still needed those flames.

Rico didn't have much of a reaction at all to the waters. But some of the soldiers had flames and other little bursts.

"Yeah we went to Sara's first, and it's kind of awesome," said Jacob. "The 'flame' is more like a breath and mine got the big one which has two versions: healing and poison. Some got this weird seed shot it can grab what it hits."

"Awesome," said Kurt. Classic flames didn't seem as noteworthy somehow. But apparently, the type of abilities was not so set in stone.

Kurt led Rico into the outpost and Tiffany bowed to him, "Sir Kurt, I'm honored you're here."

"Did Betsy tell you to say that?"

"Maybe. You should convince her to ride!"

"Me?"

"Come on she's all the way over there a lot."

"I'll talk to her, but you're the one convincing her. Maybe get this place something she can relax in. You can come to the Laylas'"

"The Queen's," said Tiffany, "I don't know she is so powerful."

"She won't mind I swear," said Kurt.

"Deal. I'll convince her to learn."

Rico was sipping from the spring and he seemed to like it a lot more than the last one.

"Ohh that one looks very capable," said Tiffany, "here little guy." She ended up petting Rico.

Kurt left Tiffany's and met up with Jacob again. "So you think it worked this time?"

"I don't know," Kurt got up on Rico, "so what was it, dracon," Rico shook his head. What was the other one?

"Let's go up and try," said Jacob.

They got up a little in the air.

"Firaga," said Kurt. And Rico flapped up with a deep breath and gave an exhale. But unlike a normal flame, his entire surroundings were changed into a large golem-like flame that was in the appearance of a massive wyvern mimicking Rico's movement.

The fire wyvern lit up the sky and Rico looked back and somehow Kurt knew, "Disrak," and the golem wyvern tore apart and it sent a barrage of small fire shots into the distance. Each was probably a bit weaker than any single shot, but it was an area-wide attack. He most likely needs a bit before he can do it again.

"That was cool as fuck," said Jacob.
