Sara had left to do some negotiations with Hamlet since they were planning on keeping a gate on the warring continent. They would have to renegotiate a few details.
She would be going to Hamlet with Mary and a few of her people. Mary could always slip her back to her own well if they were together. It would be the first time she would be on Earth.
She was planning on picking up Kurt's parents on her way back, but if they could use the wyverns inside Hamlet that would be an issue for very long.
She of course carried invitations to Kurt's upcoming wedding with Talia.
He thought it was polite to invite the relevant lords and ladies to such an occasion. The reality was most of the audience was most likely going to be political.
Kurt had to talk to Arthur about his new job. He was to take care of all the refugees they had just received.
He had come down to Cindy's well. He didn't want to disturb him at home to avoid Laura.
"So what you're saying is you want me to take the whole mess off your hands?"
"You get it," said Kurt.
"Really?"
"I don't have many humans with like ranks and Sara has to do another task and I don't want to switch halfway through."
"I'll need help," said Arthur.
"Employ your wife for all I care," said Kurt.
"Don't get one of those wyverns?"
"You haven't got one yet?" said Kurt. "Jacob makes the saddles."
"I know. It's just," Arthur looked up.
"And don't worry I'm sure Betsy will take a bunch off your hands once you get a look at who we got. We just need someone that, human. And not me because like I'm the Lord and all that."
"Sure."
"We have a new brood as well so you shouldn't worry about whether we can fully staff it."
"Be sure to utilize the gnomes."
Kurt wanted to check up with the Minotaurs as well. They had also taken up residence inside the canyon but from a cave created from a blast Simon had made once.
Boris greeted him. Along with several other Minotaurs.
"I just wanted to make sure that we have the wyverns and you guys not battling for territory here."
"They know better than to come around us here," said Boris.
The Kitsune had mad it way out of its cavern home to greet Kurt, glowing and bowing. But seemed to understand his presence wasn't necessary. The fae, or at least Layla, could communicate directly with the Kitsune. Unlike the rest of them, the translation spell was unable to do that.
"That's good to hear," said Kurt.
Kurt had a few more things to say about their position on the battlefield and what they could expect to hear.
Soon after they had begun talking, Marty flew down towards them. His appearance had not been expected by anyone there.
Marty was carrying someone with him, as he got closer he could see he was carrying a very angry Betsy by the collar.
"Kurt, tell this guy to put me down," said Betsy.
"What is happening?"
"There you are," said Marty. "This one says she speaks for you and is not allowing me to do my appointed job work, tell her to submit." He put down Betsy.
"Kurt, do you have any idea what he wants to do?"
"What?"
"He is trying to say demolish my entire warehouse structure for some altar."
"That's ridiculous."
"Horus has commanded me."
"He didn't command you to destroy what is mine to do it."
"There are reasons why the spot is most appropriate you wouldn't understand."
"No," said Kurt.
"Do you really think that wise I know he told you personally."
"I assumed he had a larger area in mind."
"It must be accessible and not forgotten away from the population."
"Who said we weren't going to make it accessible, we would run a train line to it."
"A what?"
"And I had assumed he meant the other world."
"The other world," Marty smiled.
"He did want everything, was I wrong?"
"Hmm," said Marty, "I hadn't thought of that."
"And as for the trains, I can show what I mean, it would take time for us to make but we are already planning it. But I know a place that is working."
"When can you show me?"
"Right now if you'd allow me."
"What do you mean?"
"I would have to slip to another well and touch you to bring me."
After Marty nodded Kurt approached and grabbed his shoulder and they slipped to Talia's well. Marty was under no order to hide himself like Rosie.
"So?"
"I'll show you follow me," said Kurt looking at Justin who didn't argue.
They made it outside and up the tower.
"So this is Darien's domain," said Marty looking up at the floating island.
"Yes but if you look down at the land."
"Yeah."
"You see that moving object."
"Yes, it seems to be moving very fast for an animal. It doesn't seem that much from this distance but."
"That's a train, you see the tracks, the path it's following."
"The lines across the land."
"Yes," said Kurt. "We would make a place for one of those stop at, and make the lines"
"So the temple could be much much larger. And it would be like going to any town."
"It will take time, but everything done right does."
"Horus," said Marty, "might agree with that."
"Yes. So I didn't think you needed to erect one right in the middle of my town."
"You make good points," said Marty. "The alignment of the…"
"So don't go picking on my staff."
"She threw a bird at me," said Marty.
"One that was on fire?"
"Yes. Shouldn't that make it worse?"
"Well, I told her to do that and run if she was in trouble."
"She should know her place."
"My direct subordinate, she can speak for me."
"You know Horus will want both right," said Marty.
"Yeah, one on each world."
"As long as we understand that, I think we can find a suitable location. You shall bring us back. There is already a temple here."
Kurt slipped them back into Jessica's well. He didn't need to worry much about Betsy getting back. She was everyone's boss for the most part. Boris would give her a guide.
He came back to his home after everything, and soon after Betsy had flown in a wyvern.
"What the hell was that Kurt?"
"Good, you're flying."
"Thank you for noticing," said Betsy, "that's not the issue. I have never been so humiliated in my life. He just picked me up and went around showing me off looking for you. I'm fucking pissed."
"I mean at least he didn't just demolish everything. Thank you for telling him not do that."
"Tell him not to do that? Ohh I'll tell him a lot of things not to do."
"Be careful, he's" Kurt rubbed the back of his head, "I'm not sure exactly. But…"
"Kurt, look at me," said Betsy.
"Yeah."
"Do I look like I can actually take down a Minotaur?"
"No."
"Do they still respect me?"
"From what I've seen are you saying they haven't?"
"No, that's my point," Betsy started breathing. "I can't have everyone that respects me just…that. I can have them see my like he just fucking walked me through."
"What are you saying?"
"He has to apologize. In front of my crew. To me."
"Umm," said Kurt.
"It's about you too," said Betsy. "I represent you. You have to defend my authority or else I don't actually have it. Look at me, I can't take a damn goblin let alone one of the Minotaurs. I could never even take one of those rough humans I always dealt with."
"Umm."
Betsy complained hard enough to make Kurt realize she wasn't going to have that type of treatment from anyone. And had eventually convinced Kurt to go get Mae to apologize.
"You want me to, what?" said, Marty.
"Apologize to Betsy, is it that hard?"
That took a whole other argument.
After a few hours, Kurt was able to mediate an appropriate response. He had to get Layla involved, as well as Ishtar. And got Marty to promise that if there was a problem to let them at least walk there themselves.
"That was fairly bold of you," said Ishtar, "making him do that."
"Why?"
"Angels are usually revered, it is strange your kind doesn't seem to even notice a difference about them."
"Not all of us. Trust me we notice the wings. But he just treated Betsy like some lower life form."
"Betsy is a lower life form," said Ishtar.
"Not all of us have a choir of angels."
"Hmm, I like 'a choir of angels', not a pack, or a flock. You have so many words for it. A group of something."
"A whole gaggle of them."
