Kurt had decided to visit Nelson. For two reasons. He hadn't been back to Castle Bright Flame at all. And two because he thought it would be a good place to use Raykiel without anyone noticing.
He had managed to sneak in a different sword for daily training. After he found out the sword wasn't completely hidden from the right focus.
Nelson seemed happy enough where he was.
"Yeah the main problem was all of them since the rest of them are gone," said Nelson "their grounds can easily adapt to."
"That's good to hear," said Kurt.
Fae are usually solitary creatures so for one of them to forget about everyone for a month or more wasn't uncommon. Layla was particularly ambitious.
Since they were able to repel the fur clan no humans really remain. In the torn city wildlife began to take back the land.
Kurt had found a nice secluded spot to try and unleash what his Named sword could now do. He had only used it once against that shadow creature.
He drew the sword and held a stance. He heard something slight.
Bah-Rou-shesh
Kurt's sword began to create a dark cloud. Taking a few swings with the sword he was able to surround himself with a cloud.
Kurt made a few thrusts. When he made the final one he felt the sword twitch but in a way that made the movement he was making feel a bit lightless as if the sword's weight dropped to nothing because it was moving itself through the motion without his hands.
Bah-Rou-meldrasis
At the end of Kurt's thrust another sword seemed to melt out of it sending a copy directly forward towards the wall that was in front of him. Upon this thrust, he had felt the sword pull him a bit harder.
Kurt enjoyed the sensation like the sword was indicating on this one to go harder.
He also noticed that there seemed to be a delay or cooldown for two or three seconds. Kurt wasn't sure if that was because of opportunity or a rule.
Kurt continues to make a combination, and the form blurred the space around him still making him exist in a smear of reality.
The sword seemed unsatisfied with just the practice. Like it was instructing him that these things were possible but it didn't have anything else that seemed useful for him. As if it was just saying trust me.
So for many combinations, it wasn't any different from before.
Kurt decided it would probably be better to take a more aggressive approach. There had to be something in the Jungle.
He came across a bit of an old ruin, something small was there unrecognizable from time. But there was resting upon it a large lizard creature that looked a bit aggressive with a spiked tail.
Kurt got into a stance. And made a weak shot at the creature with a sheet of water. He was just trying to get his attention.
Annoyed by the sudden aggression the Tailhorn, as he named it, moved in a zig-zag pattern toward Kurt.
He was waiting for the sword to react in some way.
It didn't seem to respond as the Tailspike charged and then made a spin to attempt to strike Lurt with his tail.
Kurt easily dodged the attack but the sword seemed to resist the motion a bit, as if it didn't agree with the choice.
The animal had limited ways to attack Kurt other than using his tail like that. Trying to use his front leg exposed his underbelly.
When the next spin was made Kurt attempted to cut off the tail, but the sword resisted the attempt pushing it to the side. Kurt was still easily able to dodge the coming attack.
The reality was that Kurt could at any moment win the battle.
Kurt made a jump back, what's left, trying to block it? Kurt wasn't worried that the sword would break. And as the creature came back for another rush. He tried the last option.
Bah
He heard as he began the maneuver.
Rou
As the spell was being said he felt a weightless sensation he was waiting for Kurt made a blow to blow the tail head off.
Terrakenisidriago
That was a long and odd one, thought Kurt.
But the results couldn't be argued with upon the strike hitting the animal was sent into a spin like it was some kind of top, the tail wasn't cut but it exploded. The amount of force that seemed to be applied could be thirty or fiftyfold.
The creature scurried away from Kurt.
As he looked down at his blade he made a realization. Everything else was a weaker version of what had happened. It was a massive boost to the counterspell, something Kurt had never efficiently utilized.
He looked over at a stone monument in the ruins, a toppled column upon it there was a symbol, an equilateral triangle pointing down triangle with a notch taken out of the top. And the left side wasn't completed.
Kurt still had his sword out, and the sword seemed too lightless tracing the pattern in the air. Kurt thought about it again and tried to do it with a line from his water magic.
The tracing started to glow in the air when he was finished. A molten ball formed in its place as the symbol shattered in the air firing forth.
That didn't seem like it was entirely the sword that time. Kurt had felt a different pull to create the molten ball one coming from inside himself.
The sword's powers seemed to pull directly from itself drawing the original spell works and spirit of the blade to amplify its powers. The Bau-Rou was always there. And Kurt felt it was changing into some forms unknown to the elves.
Kurt also knew there was a lot of sharpening and durability enchantment. This probably meant there were a few things it wouldn't cut through.
Kurt decided to test this on a small tree. Almost as expected the sword cut directly through it with little resistance. Kurt kicked the tree over. That was not typical sword behavior.
It also seemed to help but not do much to the water powers Kurt was using. It had never frozen without Kurt's incantation. Nor had the sword made much in the way of a similar type of attack.
The tracing of the symbol was unique and Kurt suspected it was somewhat unrelated to the sword itself but he couldn't be sure. The sword knew the symbol guiding the tracing at points.
There were more symbols out there. Looking at his blade tracing the writing on it. There was a very similar symbol on it. Not the same but resembled enough that it was perhaps inspired by it.
Kurt continued training, becoming more acutely aware of what the sword preferences were and weren't and how to identify subtle signals. He would have to trust the sword in that way.
He realized that the countering nature of its power meant there would be a lot of times it would be creating a new and unique counter to the power but not always.
It had become the most unpredictable when Kurt was using his illusions; this power somehow gave the sword the ability to switch which illusion had the real sword and give some power behind it. It certainly had some mind of its own.
Kurt had learned a lot from this outing; the sword's performance was more than he had imagined.
When he came back he had surprised Barney.
"Ohh it's you I thought you were the other guy sorry."
"Other guy?"
"Layla talks to him sometimes."
