The entire time behind Kurt were two teams of goblins. They were mostly keeping to themselves. The shamans had made a few translation spells, like on the King and the shopkeeper.
Kurt was having about enough with the game. The King was leading him somewhere. But not to him. So something.
"Is there something wrong?" said King James. Stacy with the Litsune was still next to him.
"No, umm," said Kurt, "it seems the Kitsune has smelled something and wishes to go back down to get it. I'm not sure of the diet of the Kitsune. I'm not an expert, I may not feed it exactly right?" said Kurt turning towards Stacy.
"Yes my lord," said Stacy, "He seems to be interested in something on the other side of the pyramid we did not visit." That side also happened to be closer to Welspring.
"Ohh," said the King, "that should be fine, if that's what he wishes."
"If you don't mind, I will talk to the guard," said Kurt, "I wasn't expecting this either."
The king nodded and Kurt came up to the Minotaurs.
"She told you right?" Said, Kurt. The Minotaur nodded. "Take him down, stay close, if anything happens, run right back to Wellspring, with Stacy and the Kitsune. And call the army. Take Maliki, there are shadows and there is no one else here."
"Personal Guards of the Kitsune take allegiance to the Kitsune first, and all other powers second. I thank you for warning us, but do not worry, I will die and place my life before the Kitsune will." The minotaur turned towards the other one, "We have always known a way to leave, on your order, or if we must." The Minotaur snorted, and the other Minotaur snorted back. It wasn't even words.
"You have my order, something is wrong, it will be safer to do it quietly. Take your time try not to make a big deal about it until you have to, the Kitsune didn't smell something it liked, I made an excuse for him to leave," said Kurt.
The Minotaur nodded then spoke back "Don't worry, he actually did smell something he liked."
"Really?"
Both Minotaurs smiled and nodded back. Kurt had honestly just made that up, it seemed plausible enough.
After his little meeting, he came back to Talia and King James engaged in a bit of small talk. Talia was always good at that type of stuff.
After the discussion, the Minotaurs, Stacy, and Kitsune had started walking to the other staircase, as each side had two, but each step would change from North, South, to East, West.
It was enough to start them down the path away from it.
Jacob was still there with the goblins, he was most excited about the magic. As it had a lot to do with spellsmithing.
King James and Kurt walked up the steps together.
"So how long are we playing this game," said Kurt.
"Game?" The King said, looking nervously.
"I'm thinking I'm walking up to someone else's castle."
The King stopped, "so we haven't fooled you. Please know I didn't have a choice. Their power…"
"Whose?"
"The gods of course."
Talia came up to Kurt and whispered in his ear, "Don't take the last stair."
They stop on the step before the platform. Before they would be there.
"So who is it?"
"I mean if you just step up."
"There are no shadows here," said Talia, "I can see them."
"You can!," said the King.
Kurt then realized the shadow was so much more insidious than he had ever experienced. If you had no way to distinguish a shadow member from a normal shadow they were for all intents and purposes invisible.
"So what happened?"
"I made a deal, and the deal changed. And he showed up recently."
"A deal for what?"
"I thought, the crown."
"But it was someone else's"
"Not at first, but after he showed up."
"Who?"
"Mordor."
Kurt gave the King a blank expression.
"Mordor the god."
"Ohh one of them, is he mad at me?"
"I think so."
"We stopped because of the trap here on this floor."
"Yes."
"I should probably just go and talk to him."
"If you would."
"No, I think you owe Stacy an apology, and honestly what if we just leave and let you deal with it?"
"What are you saying?"
"I mean are you asking for our help?" said Kurt smiling. He could just leave and cater than the King probably realized.
"What he is saying is you lead all the way up to trap, that would trap yourself," said Talia.
"Honestly," said Kurt, Do I have to keep playing this game?"
"What are you thinking?"
"I just flew up there to say hello."
"Would you say the throne room is in the front or back of that?" said Talia to the King.
"Umm guys?" said Jacob. "What are you talking about?"
"Yes, you wanted to talk to some of the masters up here."
"Of course."
"There seems to be a curse blocking us," said Kurt. "Maybe we should ignore it. Perhaps that's the best way."
Kurt drew his sword, and the sword spoke a long tongue, he had made a practice swing but it was too fast, the word extended further. After that, he made a few breaths, swung down slowly, and tapped the floor's last step.
The sword was able to say the entire phrase it wanted to, internally. He felt the change, he knew it was possible. But a longer more complex incarnation of the sword needed to be said and hit at a moment of full power. Timing was of importance. Just a tap, but a purposeful one.
The entire square of the step pyramid's fourth step lit up as a border about two feet in from the edge. It was like the light shot upwards then disappeared everywhere.
"So the trap is disarmed," said Kurt "I think that should get Mordor's attention." Kurt took the last step they had been avoiding and nothing happened.
"So we just keep pretending, like we ignored the trap?" said Talia coming close to his face forcing a loving kiss.
Kurt looked up, "You could give us some ambiance."
"When needed."
Nothing seemed to happen, they expected something to happen after the display. But there was no reaction to it.
"So, Jacob," said Kurt. "What were you most interested in here?"
"Really just keep pretending?" said King James." like you didn't just break the trap?"
"Who's pretending, if Jacob can learn a few things that's a win." Kurt looked at Jacob, "So whatever you want."
"But?"
"I came here to make a deal with Sylvain, whoever is up there Sylvaine?"
King James, "I don't know."
"If he's mad he'll come if he's not he'll just have to wait."
"Wait."
"We are still walking right up to him, but on our time."
"You're just going to walk into the trap."
"I have already walked into the trap." Kurt looked up at the cloud, it was almost like a moon was being blocked.
