Chapter 72: The Dutchery

Kurt had decided to visit Sara, he hadn't seen her since that time with Talia and wasn't sure how she really took it. Sara rarely was out in her place, especially by someone like Talia. She normally was the more straightforward and self righteous of the women in the room.

He had actually found Sara in her own throne room taking an actual audience with some of the goblins, it was about several internal movements, as well as some arguments she was settling. Kurt was actually completely shocked. Was Sara actually being responsible? One of the goblins shamans near her whispered something in her ear, "Lord Kurt!" Sara said standing up, when she finally saw him.

Okay, what was happening. Was Sara actually acting like a proper Lady, was she standing because of him and like proper form?

"There was something I wanted to ask you," she said, giving a wave to dismiss everyone as she walked over.

"About what?"

"So like those healing paste or whatever, can we get some? Or like a regular amount?"

"Who are you and what have you done with Sara?"

"What Kurt?"

"I mean look at you," said Kurt.

Sara turned away, "okay, fine maybe Lady Talia was a little right about how I need to act more like the lady I am, but that's about it, she still a little honeypot, she gave us a long winded explanation of how honeypots are official duties, and out in the open, not a denial."

"And so you dove into work? And I'm just not going to respond to the last part."

"I guess so," said Sara, "so healing paste, this is your Dutchery to remember."

"I can't believe you just said that."

Sara rolled her eyes, "come on, it's actually not all bad, people really start respecting you for real and stuff. It's kind of nice knowing more about what's happening."

"Yeah, Layla can deal with all that."

"So the paste?"

"Sure."

"Cool, then why are you here?"

"I don't know I sort of ended up visiting everywhere else recently figured this would be the last stop on my recent tour of the domain. I'm pleasantly surprised it's being so well taken care of."

Sara gave Kurt a sideways glance, "Doofus we are not in public don't think things change."

"I mean you did just come right over to ask your lord for a favor."

"Stop it."

So they started making some small talk, and Sara eventually said something that made Kurt curious.

"What do you mean they drink it?"

"Yeah apparently the Fae waters don't give every species like powers, but some natural buffs, apparently the effects are different for humans, goblins and completely different for elves."

"They did keep saying we had potent effects."

"Yeah apparently extremely potent, like the eleven really like my tree waters because it really helps their powers, their whole settlement went up faster because of it, but they don't get like me, certainly not a golem. It seems to have minimal effects for the goblins."

"How would I have even known?"

"Yeah and Mary, like Layla, really doesn't like it when people drink out the main well, other than me, she basically hasn't allowed it. So now I understand why I've never seen yours, you'll probably never see mine again unless you directly order Mary."

"Weird."

"Yeah, I don't get it all. It seems like they don't really understand, as the elves and goblins are rarely allies apparently, they apparently are more likely to avoid or have a non-aggression and a combination is practically unheard of."

"But what if one of those Giant Lizards Ants things got to it."

"Yeah Kurt who knows, if one of those could have been throwing trees around, or make little golem ones."

The Dutchery was seemingly finished with its construction, its keep was fully built and surrounding grounds, it was staffed. They were even contributing to food and mining. It was for all Kurt could tell running very smoothly, it was actually busy. With various crews of goblins and gnomes and elves finishing off some part or another, it was more ornamentation than construction, paint and finishing work. It could house a lot of people.

Kurt asked what Sara was planning to do now that the Dutchery construction seemed finished, which she gave Kurt a weird reaction to. She had begun construction on two other much smaller outpost at Layla's request already. It seemed everyone was getting these orders but Kurt. But that sort of made sense, he was the top guy shouldn't things be done under him. It still was a weird notion, but he was starting to think maybe he was missing things, he always could spend more time with Layla, that was always allowed. It was just so boring.

"So you really gonna marry that girl?" said Sara.

"Can't someone not ask me that?" said Kurt.

"Okay, fine I'll find out eventually, not like it's going to be a secret, I kind of like her."

Kurt turned back, giving Sara a confused star, "of all the people to say that."

"She's still a little honeypot, but she might be able to make you into some resemblance of a Lord. She's sort of good for you. I would normally tell you she's way out of your league here really."

"Resemblance?"

"Come on Kurt we are a little above our heads here, what do we really know about all this stuff?"

"Apparently nothing."

"You could do worse is all I'm saying. I don't think it all for show either, the way she looks at you sometimes when she knows you're not looking, and she actually blushes a little at the right times, that's hard to fake."

"Really?"

"Kind of quick on that reaction, Kurt," Sara smirked at Kurt.

"I know it's all — just —so silly."

"Yeah," said Sara, "bunch of foolish nobles playing their little games."

"So you like her?"

"Don't be thinking me and Miss Honeypot are going to end up best friends over here, she's too full of herself and proud of all the damn silliness! You can keep her out of my Durchery Kurt. Unless I give a formal invitation," said Sara.

"For like a tea party?" said Kurt.

Sara giggled, holding out her hand with a single pinky out, straightening up, "my word, and heavens." making a turn like she was drinking out of an imaginary tea cup.

"Don't act like you didn't just think about it for real."

"I'm already thinking of the places to host it here, you got me okay. I was a little girl too once you know."

"A long time ago."

"I'll have you know, that is not how one speaks to a Lady such as myself." Making a hrumpf , and turning back with a cheeky smile, "And come on mister magical sword bearer, like the little kid in you wasn't going ballistic when you got that."

"Still is. We did this fireball test, wicked cool."

"Guys do love watching stuff blow up."

"I don't know, I think I'll have to do more research," said Kurt.

"That involves you blowing more stuff up," said Sara.

"How else would one test it?"
