Reeze's visit was the last of my troubles tonight… that was what I wanted to think. But it had not even been five minutes since she left that I got another visitor.
Henry stood at the door of my shop, questioning whether he wanted to wake me up or not. In the end, I discovered him before he could make a decision and pushed the door open for him to enter.
"Please enter, Officer Henry. If you stand at my door, the rumors about my shop will spread."
I told him, and the huge man suddenly looked shy and bashful as he rubbed the back of his head.
"Oh—! You are right. Sorry about that. I just got a little too ahead of myself. Anyway, is it fine for me to enter now?"
He asked as he shuffled from one foot to another. I just held the door open for him, and he quickly came inside.
The tea had not been cleared up, and it was still hot. I quickly brought out new cups to serve the tea in and some snacks.
When I came back, the officer was sniffing the air, and his eyes were narrowed. But as soon as he noticed me, he calmed down and stopped doing whatever he was doing.
I wondered whether the room smelled that bad. Reeze had not said anything to me, but she also seemed to be in a hurry. And everyone else I knew was around too much to give me an honest opinion.
So as soon as I put the tea down, I decided to ask the officer my question.
"I am sorry, but is there anything bothering you? Does this place have a weird smell or something?"
I asked, and the officer quickly denied it.
"Huh—! Oh no—! That was not what I was doing. I just have a really sensitive nose, so sometimes I am able to pick up scents of those who have long departed from the scene as well. I just smelled a somewhat familiar scent in the air, so I was trying to see if I recognized whom it belonged to."
The man told me with a sheepish look on his face.
That fact did not surprise me half as much as I thought it would. After all, I had heard of people who were super sensitive in my time as well.
It was not surprising that people in this world filled with the supernatural would be sensitive as well—especially if they had some mixed blood in their veins.
"Oh! Maybe you are sensing Reeze Spencer? She was here just recently. In fact, she left only five minutes ago. She said something about her and her sisters planning something?"
I told the officer casually, but the officer paused to give me a look.
"Oh really? Is that what Reeze Spencer told you? Interesting~ how interesting. Hmm, I will surely take a look into it. Thank you for the information, shopkeeper."
The man told me, and I had a sudden feeling that I should not have said what I did. But the damage had been done already, so there was nothing else I could do about it.
What I could do was change the topic to another one so that Henry would forget about my mistake.
"Speaking of interesting things, there is some unrest around the town lately, right? Has that made your work tougher for you?"
I asked, and Officer Henry put his food down before he gave me a look of despair.
"Ugh, don't even go there. I cannot believe what an annoyance these past few days have been for me. Ugh, it's one thing after another. And it's all because that claw machine pointed this to be the place where the 'Treasure of the Groove' has run toward."
The officer spoke with irritation, and I suddenly felt my heart leap in my throat. I felt almost guilty because of the mention of the claw machine, because that was 100% my fault.
"Then again, these people would have found a way to track the treasure even without the involvement of the claw machine. At least with the machine and the cult, we do have advance knowledge of these things."
Officer Henry suddenly sounded thankful, and I could not pinpoint what he truly felt about the situation.
Not that I could do anything about this situation.
Officer Henry stood up soon after and looked at the clock in the room.
"It's late. I should get going now. My people must be waiting for me."
He told me, and I felt bad for the man and those who had to work hard at such a time. I took out some medicine for them to take.
"Here, why don't you take this medicine? It will help you out a lot. I hope you nothing but the best for the future."
I told the officer, and he looked thankful as he grabbed the medicine I offered.
"Woah—! If the shopkeeper is offering me goods, then I won't turn them down. Thank you for your patronage."
The man told me before he bagged all the stuff I gave him and then left.
I went back to sleep as well after that, feeling just a little bit better after I had done a good deed.
________
"General Henry, we have an emergency. Some of our people are hurt too badly, and we don't know what to do."
Henry heard these words as soon as he came to the scene of the fight. Those seeking the Treasure of the Groove were too fierce.
He quickly took out the medicine offered to him by the shopkeeper and handed it over.
"Here, take this. This should help."
He gave the people what he had brought, and they looked surprised to see that he had something to give them.
'The shopkeeper must have known that something like this would happen, so he offered me medicine in advance. What a powerful being… I should look at ways to repay him as much as I can.'
