Apocalypse: Inhuman Ascension

Chapter 59: Elena's Breakthrough

Leon quickly arrived before the Alchemy Research Building and entered alone. This was one of the buildings he had specially constructed months ago. And now, it was serving its purpose.

He stepped inside, the cold air from the air conditioner brushing past him.

For the Red Wings, building a generator had been easy. There were several engineers among the population. And the amount of stockpiled fuel was enough to last them for a year. So, the power supply wasn't a problem for the shelter.

"Oh, Leon…"

Elena called out to him fondly as she looked up from her experiment. She was donned in a white lab coat that mirrored the walls of the lab. Unlike when she had first arrived at the shelter looking drained, she now looked full of life.

Leon approached her with a small smile. "Auntie, I received your news."

After a month of studying her works, Leon had come to respect the older woman. In his past life, he had heard of the Divine Alchemist—Elena Holmes. She was someone who had created several popular potions in the past, becoming a renowned figure in the apocalypse.

After witnessing her abilities firsthand, Leon had come to respect her greatly.

"You're right. I just made something new."

She produced a small potion filled with bubbling pink liquid. Seeing it, Leon's heart sped up, and his expression brightened. Still, he pretended to be oblivious and calmly asked.

"What is that for?"

"Well, it's actually a healing potion, but I'll call it Healing Potion 2.0."

The lady smiled, proudly raising the potion.

"Unlike regular potions, it doesn't just heal wounds. It also grants evolved temporary boosts in their strength. Though this effect was very short."

Leon cocked his head, acting surprised. He already recognized the potion and couldn't help but marvel at her talent. It seemed like the alchemy class was made just for her.

"This is impressive. I'm speechless." He said, though his voice barely sounded surprised.

Already used to this, Elena smacked his back and chuckled. "Of course, you are. Come on, you can test it."

Leon held the potion, feeling like it would be a waste to consume it without any injuries.

Thinking he was skeptical, Elena patted her chest confidently.

"It's safe. I've tested it on myself already, so you don't have to be skeptical."

Instead of feeling relieved by her words, Leon's eyes sharpened. He placed the potion on a nearby table, then gripped her hand. His expression hardened.

"I already warned you not to test any of these potions on yourself. It could be dangerous."

Even though he trusted her skills, he couldn't afford losing her prematurely. Her true potential hadn't even shown itself yet.

Elena smiled faintly, already used to his worrisome attitude. Even though Leon always indulged her in almost everything, he always ensured nothing happened to her health.

This made her feel young again, her heart fluttering like a maiden's.

"You don't have to worry. I already ensured it was safe before I drank it."

"Sigh… you really shouldn't scare me like that. If you need test subjects, I can help you get a few willing ones."

"Eh? You'll really do that?"

"If it'll help you, then yes."

"Ugh. You're making this old woman's heart flutter again, boy. Be careful."

"Ridiculous. I'm simply trying to help you. Don't entertain such thoughts."

"Aye, aye, boss."

"Alright, I'll leave the mass production to you. You can ask Zemin for the materials."

"Un. I understand. You should go now. I know you're busy too."

"Alright. Take care, Auntie."

After a bit of back and forth with her, Leon left the building. Rebecca and Aisha silently appeared behind him.

"Where are the Red Valkyries?"

He asked as he went into the armory, then picked up a sleek black single sniper rifle. This one had been crafted by him, and modified to kill even evolved beings.

"They're mobilized and ready, boss."

Leon hummed, putting the ammunition belt on.

"Let's go."

He walked straight to the car park, seeing three vehicles loaded with female evolved members. After bringing those women from Hurata's decimated camp, he had invested a bit of his time and trained them personally.

"Please…"

Aisha said formally as she opened the car door, and gestured for him to enter. Like a government official, he nodded and climbed into the military vehicle. Aisha entered, and sat beside him.

As for Rebecca, she quietly took to the driver's seat.

"Boss!"

On the seat beside the driver's, Sylvia called out to him with an excited grin. To others, she always looked bored. However, she was always hyped up whenever she was around him.

Leon simply attributed this to the fact that they were now of the same race. Ignoring her excitement, he asked.

"Have you received the location from Zemin?"

She nodded with a wink.

"I got it already. He said it's around the Night Veil Amusement Park."

'Amusement park…? Hmm.'

Leon nodded, then settled into his seat. This was Rebecca's cue. She started the car and immediately drove out of the park. The other three cars trailed behind theirs, keeping a constant distance between them.

The ride was quiet and peaceful, with no interruptions or surprises. Most of the zombies in the Night Veil City had been cleared. And even the smaller hordes had learnt to steer clear the Red Wings territory.

After about half an hour, they arrived at the amusement park. It was quite some distance from the shelter so there were a few zombies loitering around.

Leon signaled for Rebecca to stop, parking the car by the roadside. Alighting from the vehicle, he watched as the other female evolved stepped out of the cars in an organized manner, battle-ready.

"Sylvia. You lead them to the horde. Only interfere when there's a third-level zombie."

After consuming several creatures hunted by Leon, she had also become a Third-Level Undead Devourer. And since the zombies in the park were of the second-level, she didn't really need to interfere. Every one of the Red Valkyries was a second-level evolved too, armed with Two-Star weapons.

Watching them leave, he walked into an adjacent building. Rebecca and Aisha followed suit. When they reached the rooftop, the Red Valkyries had already engaged the second-level zombies gathered at the amusement park.

Leon watched their fight with interest, then raised his sniper.

"Time to test this Sharpshooter Class…"
