Anna and Leon went to the Alchemy Research Building where Cassie was currently resting. Leon didn't know if she was already awake or not, but he hoped she had regained consciousness.
Unfortunately, she was still unconscious.
"So she's armless, huh?"
Anna whispered, looking at the healed stumps on Cassie's shoulders. Leon didn't answer, because there was no need to. Although he was preparing to get her a prosthetic arm, he wasn't very sure about the chance of success. Therefore, he didn't bother pinning his hopes on it.
'At least I tried something. If it doesn't work, and she wants her arms back, then…'
...
The next morning arrived quickly. As soon as he woke up, Leon checked up on his stepsister, then resumed to the forge. Apart from fighting zombies and other monsters, Leon only had one other job—Smith-Weaver. Although he hadn't gotten the weaving part, his smithing skills had become very decent.
After a bit of testing, he realized that the Godzilla scales were much more suited on creating armors rather than weapons.
"I don't have several armor blueprints, but I have enough resources to try out the available ones."
As the sun rose to its peak, clanging sounds echoed from the Glass Tower. The evolved humans on patrol moved around the city, clearing straggler zombies and checking for survivors. By now, the whole city's survivors had been rescued. Still, checking around was a normal routine.
"Mary, why do you look so glum?"
Seated in a patrol vehicle were five evolved. Two were already at the second-level, while others were at the first-level. The one who spoke was a brown-haired lady with wide eyes. She seemed to radiate a wild aura from her choice of clothing, which was quite peculiar.
Sitting beside her, another equally wild lady replied. "Hah! Rather than patrols like this, I'd very much prefer to hunt in dungeons!"
The other lady, Emily, laughed heartily. "Kawaii!(Cute) You're actually grumpy about that! Do you enjoy risking your life in the dungeons?"
Mary scoffed, but didn't deny it. "Although the casualty rate in dungeons aren't high, it's still dangerous. However, I still love the thrill. Imagine the battle! Isn't it more awesome?!"
At the back of the car, the three first-level evolved shook their heads bitterly. Mary had a reason to be confident. She was a second-level evolved, strong enough to fight dozens of first-level zombies.
Unlike her, they were only privileged to get a first-level evolution potion from their contributions.
Unaware of their thoughts, Emily laughed. "Well, what do you know? We might meet up with something interesting!"
Behind her, one of the first-level evolved quickly shouted. "Oh no! You shouldn't jinx—"
Before he finished speaking, something slammed into their car, sending it tumbling down the street. If it were ordinary humans who were riding in the vehicle, they would have died. However, these were evolved humans. They quickly got out of the ruined car, looking around warily.
Although they weren't gravely injured, they still had small cuts on them. Mary and Emily both had ugly expressions. Whatever had hit the car was strong, and had caught them off guard.
"What the fuck is it?!"
Emily scowled with a twisted expression, her sword unsheathed. The others had also unsheathed their swords, trying to pinpoint the culprit.
Soon, they spotted a zombie which was almost two meters tall. On its head was a yellow essence crystal. However, it didn't look like a regular zombie. Several red veins could be seen bulging on its body, and strange twisted horns jutted from its shoulders.
Even though it looked intimidating, towering above everyone of them, the Red Wings evolved remained unfazed. They had been trained by Anna, though it wasn't too brutal. Even then, it was enough for them to be confident in facing any adversary below the third-level.
"Pyramid Formation!"
Emily shouted, and they immediately surrounded the zombie. As they were assigned on patrol duty, they were tasked with the responsibility of clearing zombies in the city. Even if the zombie was strange, it was their responsibility to eliminate it.
Mary and Emily faced it directly, while the other three positioned themselves behind it.
Without a word, both ladies dashed forward. Emily hacked her sword at its torso, her movements extremely skilled. The zombie raised its forearms, blocking the attack. However, its skin was sliced through, almost reaching the bone.
Even then, Emily frowned slightly. The zombie's reaction speed was fast despite its size. That was unusual. Before she could think further, Mary had attacked.
She targeted the zombie's side, aiming to dig her sword into its innards. However, she faced an unusual resistance as the zombie's skin was very tough.
Her two-star sword was unable to completely cut through! This was highly surprising! These swords were crafted by Leon and had great sharpness.
'What the hell?! Unusual…'
The lady retreated, her expression alarmed. She exchanged a glance with Emily, understanding flashing between them.
"Now." Emily said calmly, then the three evolved behind the zombie attacked. They attached attack cards onto their one-star swords, then hacked at its back.
The zombie turned abruptly, sensing danger from behind. Although one-star swords wouldn't really harm it, the attack cards increased their lethality.
Boom!
The attacks were blocked, and the three evolved were sent staggering backwards. Sensing that they were weaker, the zombie immediately counterattacked.
Two humongous fists shot at the three of them, closing the distance rapidly. These evolved men didn't panic. Their expressions remained calm, and they immediately launched their own attacks.
Three blades of light intersected, shooting towards the approaching fists.
Bang!
The swords sliced into the knuckles, drawing blood. The flesh was shredded, causing the zombie to howl in pain. Even though a zombie's body was highly resistant to pain, the combined attacks of the three men were powerful.
Even then, they weren't strong enough to compete against it. The residual force of the punches hit them, and they were sent flying like rag dolls.
At this point, Mary and Emily had arrived, both slashing at each shoulder. Because of the brief distraction, the zombie couldn't dodge and could only tank their attacks.
Red veins bulged on its skin, turning into some red armor that blocked their attacks. The two ladies were shocked. It even had a defensive skill!
Just as humans could have classes and gain attributes, zombies could also gain random skills over time. Mary's expression turned grim. Something that was supposed to be a low-diff hunt was becoming increasingly hard.
"We'll have to use our classes."
She said to her friend, who nodded with an equally grim expression. There was no reason to hesitate any longer. Both ladies activated their respective classes, then attacked.
Emily's sword flashed with a ghostly light, and three identical swords followed it. Although these swords looked illusory, they carried eighty percent of the original attack power. This was an attribute of Emily's class—Copy Master.
The four swords sliced into the same point, cutting deep enough to reveal bones. Before the zombie could react, Mary's attack arrived. It was simple, yet strange.
Her sword didn't even cut deep, but suddenly, lines appeared all over its body, spurting blood greatly. Emily was quietly surprised, as Mary had never disclosed the name of her class. Even though she was used to seeing the strange attack, she still felt surprised whenever she saw it.
"Keep it up. It's not dead."
Mary nodded, then they attacked simultaneously. Under their combined assault, the zombie was gradually riddled with injuries. The injured first-level evolved men also stood to the side, occasionally launching attacks at the zombie.
Roar!
Suddenly, the zombie's yellow eyes turned red, and threw away all caution. It pounced at the injured first-level evolved men, ignoring the attacks of the two ladies behind it. It had decided to at least bring some people to the grave with it.
A vicious expression crossed Emily's face, and she immediately slashed at the back of its neck. Maya frowned, then pursued with all her strength. Those three men were on her team, how could she let them die?
However, the zombie's movement had caught them off guard, and she reacted a bit late. It arrived before the three men, then raised its fists, intending to crush them.
Although the three men were stunned, they didn't scatter. They supported each other, then crossed their swords.
Bang!
The punch broke through their swords, hitting them squarely on the chest. Blood sprayed in the air, and they were sent flying. Although they indeed slowed its attack, they couldn't avoid it.
Thankfully, their efforts paid off, and none died. Instead, they were gravely injured and couldn't even move.
Emily arrived behind the zombie, then cleanly sliced off its neck. Blood sprayed in the air, and the head rolled off its shoulders.
Emily panted, immediately deactivating her class. Although impressive, classes were extremely draining.
Mary appeared beside her with a complex expression. She had many questions about the strange zombie, but couldn't ask immediately. Instead, they needed to attend to the injured.
