Apocalypse: Inhuman Ascension

Chapter 87: Apocalypse

"Choose option two."

After having his fill of laughter, Leon said to the two behind him. Although they were curious about his foresight regarding matters like this, none chose to ask. He had specifically warned everyone not to ask him anything.

Without hesitation, all three chose option two. A flash of light enveloped their bodies, then they disappeared.

While they had gone, several others had chosen their options, especially evolved with no place to call home. At the sight of a free travel to a fictional world, they blindly chose.

All around the world, humans were thrown into disarray by the suddenness of the situation, with several factions suffering from a dive in manpower as their residents and evolved disappeared.

Only a few factions remained calm and unruffled, planning on who to send to the alien worlds.

...

While Earth was in an uproar, Leon, Rebecca, and Aisha appeared in a forest filled with dried trees without leaves. The sky was blood red, an ominous wind blowing.

"This place…"

Aisha shivered, her eyes darting around. Rebecca was more composed, but her nervousness couldn't be hidden.

"Listen up."

Leon spoke, and at the same time, a screen popped up.

[You have arrived in the Supernatural World Urato]

[You are not a native of Urato, one evolution level has been stripped]

[Compulsory Quest: Kill a Vampire, a Werewolf, and a Witch within the given time limit]

[Time Limit: 3 Days]

[Failure: One evolution level loss]

[Reward: 10% of lost evolution recovered]

"What the?? Actual fuck?!"

Aisha cussed absentmindedly, her eyes wide in disbelief. Even Rebecca couldn't keep a straight face at the absurd quest.

"Keep calm."

Leon remained unfazed, even as he felt slightly weaker. He rummaged through the provisions he brought, then produced a lollipop sweet.

He unwrapped one, then placed it in his mouth. Unwrapping another two, he gave the girls. Although they were confused, they put it in their mouths.

[You have performed a new unexplored action on Urato]

[0.5% of lost evolution has been recovered]

[Continue performing acts new to this world to recover more lost evolution]

The messages followed one after another, successfully stunning the two girls.

"Eh?"

Leon zipped up his bag, then started walking. "You should have a rough understanding by now. This place is an alien world to ours. Every action we take that hasn't been taken here would be beneficial."

"Currently, we have no chance of killing any of the three listed in the quest. That's why we need to use this shortcut method."

The two girls nodded, following behind him with guarded steps. With his explanation, they grasped the crux of the situation.

As 'aliens' on Urato, they were debuffed and couldn't exhibit their full power. Therefore, they needed to complete quests in order to regain their strength.

"Stay alert, there are mutated beasts over here too."

Leon hadn't even finished speaking when a growl reached their ears. On their left, a black-furred hound approached them with confidence.

Leon glanced at it, and immediately realized its source of confidence. A blue crystal peeked from its forehead, gleaming brightly.

"Third-Level Mutated Beast. You guys handle it but be careful."

He said, then stepped back, allowing them to take over the battle.

Aisha and Rebecca stepped forward confidently, each armed with a three-star silver spear.

They exchanged a glance, then attacked from both sides. The hound growled at them, then pounced at Aisha on its left.

The girl skillfully parried its claws and threw it off. From behind the staggering hound, Rebecca appeared. Her spear pierced into its thigh, a result of its last moment twist, drawing blood.

Rargh!

The hound barked at them, growing wary of the two humans. Even if they had lost one evolution level, their skills and teamwork could compensate.

However, a third-level creature was still a third-level one. It crouched, then suddenly sprang forward. The fur on its body shot forward like shrapnel, surprising the two evolved.

They quickly spun their spears, deflecting most of the attacks. Still, a few struck their bodies, digging deep and drawing blood.

Rebecca frowned as she watched Aisha wince, then rushed at the charging hound. As it spread its jaws wide to bite, she slid between its front legs with her spear held horizontally. The beast tripped over the spear, stumbling forward.

Descending right from the top, Aisha appeared with her weapon and stabbed into the back of its head. The force from the attack, amplified by gravity, pinned it to the ground.

The hound let out a pained whimper, then collapsed. After a few seconds of twitching, it finally died.

"Ugh…"

Aisha groaned as she plucked the hardened fur from her body. Although the furs hit her, it didn't dog too deep.

Leon approached the hound's corpse, then dug out the crystal. He remembered how his team had suffered tragically after travelling to this world in his past life. That time, they had been unlucky to land in the middle of a vampire city, almost getting wiped out as a result.

'That was back then… this time, it'll be different.'

His eyes burned with something dark and unsettling, a quiet thirst for deny to be paid in blood.

'How unhealthy~ attachment to past life, hm?'

He chuckled absentmindedly, then rose to his feet. "Let's move."

'Earth must have fallen into a turmoil.'

...

Just as Leon thought, the world of humans had fallen into more chaos. As soon as several humans deserted their factions to journey to other worlds, several non-human beings of myth appeared. Vampires, Witches, Demons, and Werewolves.

They came scattered, but with a sense of purpose. Those of the same race gathered together and launched attacks against the human strongholds, trying to occupy a territory as soon as possible.

"Another wave of bad wolves."

Sylvia said with a frown as she watched the advancing group from atop the walls. At the gates of the Red Wings Territory, corpses littered the ground, ranging from demons to werewolves.

"Those demons are unsightly."

Chad replied as he wiped his sword. It was covered in purple blood originating from the dark-skinned species called demons. They had long pointed ears, small wings on their backs, and different kinds of tails. The werewolves were more pleasing to the eyes. At least they didn't look grotesque.

"No time to complain. They're here."

Daddy Ye put on his helmet, then leaped from the walls with his battle-axe raised.
