"Jaeryn. Zee was right after all. He found a way to reach this world through the rulers. Or more specifically, through one ruler." Alrik muttered to himself.
"These beings are not like us. Their world is called Faeri, and it should not have been possible for both worlds to collide. Nothing and no one should have been able to cross over. Not much information was written about Amreth's lover, the first to cross over, so I don't know how she did it. Some say she was blessed with great power, and her love for Amreth was so great that not even the veil between realms could keep them apart. But that love was pure, and neither Grendan nor his counterpart Jaryn had that kind of pure energy." Erin spoke.
They were all listening attentively. None of them had ever heard of this before. Only Alrik had a vague idea, and he knew there was truth to the doctor's statements after hearing Jaeryn being mentioned. Zee had already told him of Jaeryn's involvement, and now the missing piece of how the rulers got involved was in the doctor's files.
"Though he tried to keep it under wraps, news of Grendan's growing paranoia and words of another world spread to the other ruler families. They tried to dethrone him early, claiming he was too unstable to rule, which may have been true, but just made him spiral deeper into madness. He did some kind of ritual that made him possessed with foul energy. Dark magic of some sort, and he was able to keep away the soldiers sent to forcefully remove him from the palace since he refused to vacate. Seeing that made a few of the other families believe his words, and soon they also began to thirst over magic. Their greed for more power made them align with Grendan, instead of putting an end to the madness. You can guess which families joined him, the five we know today. They tried to kill off the other families for being against their nefarious plans, and that was how the kingdom of Valeryth became split. Franon, Juvre, Orewyn families took their families, and soldiers, and other loyal commoners and set up a stronghold that became Valderra. The five here created Velmorra, and both have been enemies ever since, even though the true reason for the enmity has been rewritten, almost completely erased from history." The doctor leaned back and wiped off his glasses before putting them back on.
"They killed so many people. Hundreds of lives lost. The war we've been told was caused by Valderra that took so many lives. That was false. It was our very own rulers that slaughtered their own citizens like cattle. Innocent families, taken out of their homes at various times of the night, for weeks on end, their blood shed on altars of each family. They needed a better way to kill just so they could create a portal and allow the being Jaeryn to cross over. The lives they slaughtered became mutated by dark spells, multiplying not through any regular means but with the same foul energy. The more lives were lost, the more blood flowed, the bigger the portal got. Their plan to summon the being called Jaeryn almost succeeded, but the evil spells they used must have backfired. Instead of crossing over, Jaeryn somehow became the damn portal, or should I say his soul was tied down to it. Along with the beasts created by the spells they had used."
The silence in the room as they listened was one of horror. Most of them couldn't believe the story that was being told. Could it be true? That they'd been lied to all their lives? That the beasts they fought once used to be human, but were not mutations of dark magic?
"The portals open because Jaeryn still wants to take over this world. I have no idea if he can return to Faeri, but I'm guessing not. I also don't know what happens when the portals are not open. He resides in the energy of the portals, and the beasts multiply through the dark magic within it. If all of this was in the past, I may have been able to sleep better. But what's worse is they're still doing it today. Wasting the lives of soldiers fighting these beasts that they created. Something is wrong with most of them. I doubt they're still human. They don't have magic, thank the heavens for that, but they still use dark spells till today, they're still trying to revive Jaeryn's soul. It seems the spells they used to make the spell bound them to serve him, or something like that. I don't want to make it sound like they're being forced into this. Trust me when I say they're more than willing. And they pass this thirst and greed down every generation, making sure their descendants stay in power and keep trying to do rituals, cast spells for Jaeryn."
"I'll make a new video when I have more information on these rituals. I'm trying to gain their trust to be able to infiltrate, but the circle is tight knit. I only know they're doing evil things from the screams that echo these halls. We're deep underground in the hub. A basement level that is excluded from the blueprints to make sure it remains secret. These tunnels run though a lot of places so these families can go in and out without ever being seen. People are dying daily, and most people are none the wiser. I'm still trying to find more information on the families that split to become Valderra. Could they be allies? Or have the generation that tried to fight against this evil all died without passing down their values to the descendants? That's the big question. The only reason we weren't wiped out from the earth was the Thestle family's heir. Amreth. No one really knows the story of how he got powers, or how he gained the sword we know today as the Zerdon family heirloom. Most of the stories about the sword, and Amreth's valour in battle have been misrepresented to diminish the true power he wielded. Some say his lover gave him her power with her dying breath, others say she became the sword. I can't say for sure."
That video ended, Ally turned to face the rest behind her.
"All of these can't be true, right? It's too horrendous to believe. The beasts were created? And they were human? And they're still conducting the same rituals that started the whole mess?" She asked with wide eyes.
Alrik sighed. Ally might be a part of one of Alrik's prime teams, but apart from his inner circle, none of them were aware of the true happenings. They didn't know of his abilities, or the powers Zee contained. They also didn't know the government was involved. They knew Alrik had been summoned, but they assumed it was a regular meeting, maybe to discuss investments. If he had known the true contents of the disk, he would not have involved Graham's team. But Ally was the best person they had to decrypt the files. He was debating within himself if he should come clean, since she had heard a lot from the videos they had watched so far. Even Jonah looked pale. It was just the two of them here, so maybe he would start with just them.
"This is the true history of our nation. I already knew a part of it before today, but most of this is new information. The missing piece I've been trying to find. I know you've worked for my team long enough to be considered loyal. But I still need to state the fact that all of this must remain a secret, even from your team. For now, just the two of you are aware of this and that's because I think we'll need your help to do more research, and also try to infiltrate the Hub's network. I'll discuss bringing Graham in with the others. We might need Riley because of his Valderran contacts, but the other two will definitely be excluded." Alrik said to them.
He shared a look with Bruno and Gaya, then leaned down to retrieve Zee who was leaning against the chair he sat on.
"You've been silent." He said to Zee.
"Just observing for now. I don't have eyes to see what's happening. I see and hear through your own experiences. I just thought it would be better to wait and get everything before giving opinions, or opening up any discussions." She replied.
Alrik drew the sword, and once again let down the energy he used to conceal his golden eyes. He had put it back up after leaving the Hub. Ally and Jonah gasped as they saw his eyes, and then the sword also glowing golden.
"W..what…"
"Long story short, this is Zerdon. Amreth's lover. The first being to cross realms. Technically, she is no longer alive, but her soul is bound to this sword permanently."
