Lord Of Puppets

Chapter 126 – Adventurers VS Golem Dungeon – Round 2 – Part 3.

"F-fuck…"

"Please don't move! We need to remove it carefully!" – said the medic as he was trying to assist the injured adventurer with heavy armor.

"Hey! What is going on?! Why did you stop- ?!" – Adam alongside his party rushed towards the heavily armored adventurer, wanting to find out why his group suddenly stopped in tracks, only to find out the man having a giant arrow sticking out from his shield.

"They have…. Ballista…. These…. Motherfuckers have a fucking ballista!" – said injured man.

"Please don't scream! The impact may had done something to your organs!" – said the medic that was trying to treat the man.

"!"

"Em… I think I see the ballista he was talking about!" – said the nervous fire elven archer as she noticed the golem with a ballista attached to its body.

"!"

"And there are more of those dog things coming here!" – said the mage who noticed multiple fast approaching figures coming from behind.

"Shit! Cover up the guys from behind and keep moving! The escape path is still open!" – said Adam as several other adventures came to assist people from behind, boosting their defenses against the crossbow bolt.

"!"

"Em…. Guys? I think I also see some new guy there." – said alarmed elven archer.

<<Honestly, before I even started using the new materials, I've had already made some changes to the produced monsters beforehand.>>

<<Simple put, I knew I need more "variety" when it came down to the golems.>>

<<The more different type of enemies the enemies have to do, the more countermeasures and tactics they will need to come up with to deal with different kind of enemies.>>

<<But I knew that just changing up things like weapons won't do.>>

<<I've made some new golems using different weapons, like halberds and started reusing old claw golem blueberry with some golems…. But this won't do.>>

<<I need something deadly.>>

<<So, I've made 3 different golems.>>

<<The first golem that I've made was made on my research regarding beast monsters.>>

<<The "Hound Golem – Model Hunt".>>

<<This new golem type took heavier inspiration from the countless different beast golems I've had made.>>

<<Their leather, their bones, their claws, their horns and their fangs.>>

<<I've also experiment on their body structures to see how they are working and what not.>>

<<I've improved their joints and claws, allowing them to ran much quick and traverse different kind of territories, be it wet or solid.>>

<<Not only that, I've reinforced their heads and attached special thick blade to their foreheads.>>

<<I've took inspiration from the horned rabbits when adding these.>>

<<Simple put, they are pseudo version of these rabbits. They deal both bashing and stabbing damage.>>

"Shit! Just fire at them! Don't let them get close to us! We are already busy with blocking off their projectiles!" – said the shield wielding adventurer as the long-range combatants started firing their arrows and spells at incoming hound golems, blasting or stopping some of them in place… Expect for a single larger hound golem that ran through the projectiles and ram straight into one of the shield bearers, knocking him down and creating an opening amongst the adventurers' line of the defense.

"{Hammer Art: Wreck Strike}!" – however, right as the golem managed to get in, it straight ended up getting hit right in the face with a spiked ball, knocking the creature backwards, which gave opening for both the female elven mage and thunder mage to unleashed their attacks, blowing up the creature, which that in turn gave Adam to sent another fallow up attack, hitting and pushing away the creature.

"…"

(Fuck.) – thought nervous Adam.

(I guess this is the worst-case scenario.)

(Dungeon really devour everybody who had died during the last war and has already evolved!)

(So not only we are dealing with another army of golems, but also some new monsters in the mix?! JUST FUCKING GREAT!)

<<The second monster I came up with was related to range.>>

<<Simple put, I knew that the crossbows have much higher piercing power compare to the bows, but as a side effect it takes much longer to reload them.>>

<<I did made a few bow golems as a test subjects… But I ended up liking more the crossbow golems for few different reasons…. However, it wasn't enough.>>

<<I wanted to have some sort of long-range weapon that can deal massive amount of damage.>>

<<I've thought about maybe making a golem that can throw bombs…. But this one wouldn't do, since they wouldn't be able to reuse the used up bombs and stuff.>>

<<So, instead I've had made one of the weapons that are apparently used in "sieges" and in defense.>>

<<The ballista.>>

"Eh?"

The second ballista golem aimed and fire it shot, which pieced right through one of the adventurers shields and then through the person holding it.

"!"

"Shit! He is dead!" – said medic who instantly tried helping the tank…. Only to realize that the man has died instantly as the giant arrow sticked out from his body.

"Fuck! Take down these big ones! The four legged one! They are the ones using ballista!" – shouted Adam as the thunder mage tried unleashing [Thunder Magic: Lighting Shot], unleashing a bolt of lightning that traversed between the golems before then heading straight to the ballista golem…. But right as it was about to reach it, the heavy armored knight with two massive spiked shields stepped forward, blocking the attack.

"?!"

"The hell?!" – said the thunder mage as the third new golem type made its appearance.

<<The third golem…. Well, this one took direct inspiration from the enemy.>>

<<The enemy is using people called "tanks" to block the enemy attacks and protect their party members from the incoming danger.>>

<<This…. Honestly, I should had done it ages ago…. How could I not realize something as simple as that?>>

<<Anyway, the third golem type, "Defender Golem" is an extremely modified version of the knight golem.>>

<<Their entire armor is much thicker and they are equipped with two large spiked shields, which can be used as both as the tools for offence, but most importantly for the defense.>>

<<Not only that, I've made their body to have higher defense against magic.>>

<<Meaning that this guys can handle both physical and magical type of damage.>>

"SHIT! What the hell is up with these things?!" – shouted thunder mage as he tried firing over and over alongside other long-range attacks, trying to take down the defender golem who just took on the attacks head on without even getting pushed back.

"…Okay…. This…. This one I think was made to counter us?" – said nervous thunder mage before moments later the crossbow golems once again unleashed their own hail of bolts, which put some pressure on the defenders.

(Shit…. We can take on these golems, I know we can!) – thought nervous Adam.

(But our position is too unfavorable!)

(We need to stack up these golems in spot and not let them surround us, and then and only then we will able to deal with the golems while keeping the casualties to minimum!)

"KEEP RUNNING! WE ARE ALMOST REACHING THE EXIT!"

"…"

(Hm…. This is truly problematic.) – thought Thauma as it observed the adventurers struggling against the golem.

(The new models are doing noticeable good job…. But the enemy forces by the looks of things are also much stronger compare to before….)

(Ah…. Things are not going as planned one bit.)

(True, there are some loses on the enemy side…. But not enough to slow them down.)

(Still, before they exit the forest, the two armies will completely reach the enemy and then their numbers will-)

"?"

(….Ah…. Crap.)

"SHIT! THEY ARE CATCHING UP TO US!" – shouted panicking adventurer as the three waves of golems were finally reaching the invaders.

(Shit! Because we were trying to help out the guys that were protecting our back, we ended up staling for far too long!) – thought Adam as he realized that confrontation with the golems is impossible to avoid.

"EVERBODY! GET-"

"-GET DOWN!" – shouted somebody from behind as Adam looked behind himself, noticing several slashes of wind going past him, which landed and knocked back the hound golems.

"Go to the exit! Now!" – shouted the guild master, who arrived with the reinforcements.

"…"

(God dammit…. The enemy reinforcements?!) – thought annoyed Thauma as it observed new soldiers and adventurers attacking the golems, which in turn gave the army that entered the forest before hand a necessary time to completely retreat from the forest.

(This isn't good…. This isn't good one bit.)

(Not only that, these guys aren't necessary weaklings!)

(….)

(God dammit…. There goes my entire plan.)

In the end, the adventurers managed to completely escape the golem forest.

The golem did tried to chase for a bit the fleeing enemies, but that didn't really worked well since the enemy was ready to fight them outside the forest…. And it didn't took the construct long to just stop trying to hunt down their enemies and then just turn around, returning to their home.

[The first attack attempt.]

[Results.]

[Failure.]

Unfortunately, that retreated marked the first attack as a failure…. But not necessary a total failure.

Thanks to the guild master warning the adventurers to retreat, the adventurers managed to escape before Thauma forces completely surrounded the adventurers and completely cut off their escape path.

Thanks to this retreat order not only the amount of casualties was kept minimum.

And not only that, the adventurers also managed to obtain a large amount of information regarding the golems.

No.

This attack was not failure one bit.

If anything, the one who had truly won back then were the adventurers.

And now?

Thauma advantage has been shattered.
