Nero collapsed to a knee.
His breathing was heavy but his eyes felt heavier.
'Fuck.'
The combined pressure from Garrick, Fallow and Johanna had him completely suppressed.
He couldn't properly make use of Gungnir's longer range because the two fighters refused to make any space between them.
Anytime he tried to distance himself, they would quickly and forcibly close it, even at the cost of personal injuries.
They fought with an instinctive vigor and desperation that could only be cultivated after several life-threatening battles and situations.
Compared to such conviction, he was a heaping mess.
His circumstances made it so that he was completely unable to execute his technique ls properly.
He also couldn't help but hesitate.
Once he used his skills, there would be no going back.
They would know that he was not human. Which meant he would have to kill every single one of them.
After all, if word got back to the church, he would be huted down and exorcized.
Another bolt came whizzing towards him.
He leapt back to avoid it, but a second one struck true, burrowing deep into his knee.
With a sharp hiss, he cried out in pain.
'Damn it!'
He didn't have the liberty to even consider those things. Either way, he would be killed, so why not live a bit longer.
He dodged another crossbow bolt, albeit barely.
He was, however, unable to avoid the steel-toed boot that came smashing against his face.
He was sent flying by the force.
With a snort, Fallow wiped the blood away from his lips and spat cruelly,
"Stupid brat."
Garrick glanced at him then he turned back to Nero.
A strange look flashed through his eyes as he walked forward and picked the spear Nero had dropped.
A pleased expression remained on his face as he turned and threw it at Obed,
"Keep it safe."
Obed frowned as he caught the spear.
The frown deepened when he noticed Garrick still approaching the beaten Nero.
"Garrick, isn't that enough? You've gotten what you are after."
Garrick spoke with a cold smile,
"I want the sword as well."
Obed sighed.
Lucy turned away, not willing to watch any more.
Fallow cackled menacingly,
"Don't kill the kid yet. If I'm not able to enjoy the fair-skinned lady, he'll have to do. His skin is soft enough."
Garrick grimaced, "Fucking pervert. Alright, do what you want, but be quick. But break his arms and legs first. Or better yet, cut them off."
Fallow's eyes lit up,
"Now you're talking!" He said as he stalked over to Nero.
The coppery taste of blood forcibly was like a bolt of lightning upon a calm lake.
Nero's eyes snapped open.
'Fuck this shit!'
So what if they saw what he truly was?!
He didn't care anymore!
To hell with them all!
They wanted to kill him as well, so why would he care?!
He gritted his teeth and stretched his arm.
"Hm?" Obed stared down at the spear in his grip.
The golden and crimson patterns on the shaft had begun to glow slightly as the spear let off a low hum.
Then, before he could process what was happening, it shot right out of his grip.
"Look out!"
The spear let out a low hum as it cut through the air faster than the normal eye could follow.
Fallow raised a brow and began to turn.
However, he was not fast enough.
Gungnir stabbed through the back of Fallow and into his guts, bursting forth from his stomach carrying a wave of crushed entrails and blood that painted Nero's face red.
With a furious roar, Nero grabbed the bloodied spear from the skewered Fallow and pushed it up, widened the wound.
Then in a showing of superhuman, he flung the fatter man off like he weighed no more than a waterskin.
The glow in his eyes was savage as he shot right at Garrick, th Silver Blade trailing through the air as he swung at his neck.
In a panic, Garrick tried to block, but the forcethree him of balance. Nero retracted his blade and prepared to deal the killing blow.
BANG!
His eyes widened in shock.
The gilded glow in his eyes slowly faded away, his neck creaking as he slowly turned his head around.
Behind him, Obed had one of his blades buried in his side which was now gushing profusely, while Lucy had her finger wrapped around his sword arm.
His teeth stained crimson by blood, he opened his mouth and tried to struggle, but was held down firmly by them both.
"You fucking idiot. Why wait until the bastard nearly had me?!" Garrick cursed as he rose to his feet, his breathing heavy.
"That's enough, Garrick." Obed said grimly.
"You've gone too far this time."
Garrick chuckled. Then he laughed.
He laughed madly.
Then he stopped, yhe humor completely gone from his face,
"I haven't gone far enough. Hand the kid over."
Lucy took a step forward and drew her weapon, pointing it at Garrick,
"Chill the fuck out."
"Sis, stop ruining the fun." Johanna whined.
Lucy snapped her head back,
"Johanna, that's eno—!"
She froze.
"J—Johanna..."
Johanna raised a brow, "What is it? Why do you look like you've seen a ghost?"
He turned around, wondering what the fuss was about.
Then she froze as well.
Behind her was a curtain of black.
The swarm of Night Hornets had come back.
It was a known fact that Night Hornets could swarm a location only once.
This was a limit due to their biology. A strange feature of them that made it so that their bodies and their wings could allow motion in a certain direction, which kept them fixed onto paths.
And yet, for some reason, the swarm had defied their constrictions.
No. There was something strange about this horde of Night Hornets.
Their rumps emitted a strange, neon green florescent glow that pulsed strangely light a heartbeat.
They were also much larger than usual, each one at least three times larger.
Johanna felt a shiver run down her spine as she reached out her hand,
"Help—!"
