The King of Bay Area

Chapter 619: Enjoying the Moment

It was a rare sight. The journalists' attention was all focused on the simplest and most basic question. After collectively witnessing this historic moment, their curiosity and anticipation began to churn, and all eyes were on Lu Ke, who they faithfully recorded for posterity. It was like what happened at the 2004 Athens Olympics when Liu Xiang won the gold medal in the men's 110-meter hurdles.

Historic moments are so precious because no one has ever experienced them before. Besides the people involved, no one can truly understand the feeling. It was unbelievable and unparalleled for a player of Chinese descent to make history in a sport dominated by other races. This was true for Liu Xiang back then, and it was true for Lu Ke now.

"Wonderful," Lu Ke answered simply, without being modest or evasive. He was open and direct, and his smile spread across his face. "Believe me, this is an incredibly wonderful moment. So, you can ask some tough questions today, and it still won't affect my wonderful mood."

Harry Wainess's question followed like an inescapable tail. "Lu Ke, how does it feel to defeat Drew Brees? Almost the entire league picked the Saints to win, but now you have successfully defeated Brees. How does it feel? Will you still not be affected by a question like this?"

His words were straightforward, and the provocative meaning was obvious. He was directly putting Lu Ke and Brees in opposition, trying to stir up trouble between the two quarterbacks and their fans. He didn't hide his intention of creating a news sensation, and even had a smug look on his face.

"I don't think I defeated Brees. Today, two great teams played a wonderful game, and in the end, we performed a little better and won. That's all there is to it." Lu Ke smiled as he met Harry's provocative gaze, answering calmly, "Right now, I'm enjoying the joy of victory. So, no, Mr. Wainess, you can't affect my mood." After speaking, Lu Ke deliberately showed a big smile, exaggerating the upward curve of his lips to show that his mood was still as bright as the summer sun and that he was completely unaffected, directly responding to Harry's provocation. His answer was neither arrogant nor humble and was crisp and powerful, a perfect counterattack.

"Lu Ke, are you aware that you are making history?" another reporter's question immediately interrupted the topic, leaving all of Harry's sharp and pointed questions to fall on himself. It was like swallowing a tooth you just bit off.

"No, I don't know." Lu Ke let out a heavy breath, as if he was unburdening himself. "Winning is the most important thing because it's the result of our entire team working together. Those historical numbers are just a bonus, so I don't know and I don't care. Right now, I just want to celebrate with my teammates."

Historical records are personal glory, while a game's outcome is a team's glory. In Lu Ke's opinion, at least, victory always trumps a record.

In the crowd, another reporter asked loudly, "Bambi, can you talk about that rushing touchdown?"

It seemed like a very simple question, but Lu Ke suddenly froze. He blinked, a question mark on his face, looking as if he was saying, "A rushing touchdown? Is that about me? Are you sure you're asking me? Did I even rush for a touchdown today?" He had lost his usual wit and sharpness and was showing a completely different side of himself, one that was young and inexperienced.

Jay quickly reminded him, briefly describing the 29-yard rushing touchdown.

Lu Ke then had a look of understanding on his face. He laughed at himself. "I thought you would ask about the last pass to Logan, so I selectively forgot about the other touchdowns." His embarrassed look of "memory loss" made people laugh.

Then Lu Ke shook his head, and it wasn't enough, he also waved his hands, a double denial. "I think I should increase my running drills. My God, that's my least favorite drill." He mercilessly started to make fun of himself, "But to avoid the embarrassment today, I should really work hard during the offseason."

The reporters originally wanted to ask Lu Ke why he chose to run, what his thoughts were on the rushing touchdown, and how he felt about making history with a rushing touchdown in the Divisional Playoff game. But now that Lu Ke was joking around, everyone started to laugh, and the interview atmosphere became light and pleasant, and the focus of the questions became blurry.

The following questions became more and more fragmented. They asked about "The Catch 3," the performance of the offensive line, the ups and downs of the last four minutes, and the successful activation of the two-tight-end formation tonight. The questions about the details of the game came one after another. There were too many things to focus on in this game. Once the floodgates of questions opened, they just couldn't stop.

After a long time, Harry Wainess finally found a good opportunity and asked a question he had been planning for a long time. Of course, it was also a question that other reporters liked. "Lu Ke, what are your thoughts on your next opponent? Which team would you rather play against?"

The NFC Divisional Playoff game between the New York Giants and the Green Bay Packers also had many things to talk about. On paper, the Packers were undoubtedly the biggest favorite to win the Super Bowl this year. But no one could predict how things would turn out against the Giants, who were known to be unpredictable. It was the same in the last Wild Card game. The Atlanta Falcons suffered an unbelievable defeat. The Giants were on a hot streak, so what about this game?

For the 49ers, these two opponents obviously meant completely different things. They had already played against the Giants once in the regular season. The two teams had a classic match-up, and in the end, the 49ers narrowly defeated their opponent at home with a series of no-huddle plays. If they were to play each other again, and it was at Candlestick Park again, the 49ers would undoubtedly be a strong contender for a spot in the Super Bowl.

The Packers were the best team in the regular season, with the number one offense and the most wins. After the Saints, the 49ers would once again face a high-scoring battle. This time, Lu Ke would face the younger and more agile Aaron Rodgers. The outcome of this match-up between the new generation and the mid-generation would be unpredictable, but it was clear that the Packers would be the favorite.

So, from Lu Ke's perspective, which team did he want to win?

This was undoubtedly a question that all reporters were interested in. At the same time, it was also a question that the Giants and Packers fans were interested in. No matter which team Lu Ke chose, it was a trap. Harry would definitely not miss the opportunity to ask a more aggressive question, and Lu Ke's "prediction" would definitely become a hot topic for fans. You could imagine that a war of words was already on its way.

"So, the happy hour is over?" Lu Ke casually retorted, cleverly avoiding the topic. "I thought we were enjoying the wonderful moment of this victory. The next game is a long way away and shouldn't be the focus of today." Then, Lu Ke shook his head with a look of regret. "Is happy hour so short these days?"

Happy Hour can also be used to describe the afternoon time that bars or restaurants set up to attract customers. Drinks are cheaper, which brings in more customers.

Lu Ke's answer was a double entendre. His witty and clever response made Harry's trap useless. But the journalists clearly refused to let Lu Ke get away so easily. Not just Harry, but the other reporters as well. Someone immediately followed up, "So, which team do you want to win?"

"I've never thought about that question. Just a few hours ago, we could have lost this game and said goodbye to our postseason journey this year. It's the same now. No matter who we play in the next game, we'll still be the underdogs. We'll only have a chance to win if we give it our all."

Lu Ke still had a brilliant smile on his face, but all his sharpness suddenly disappeared. He once again showed his humble and polite side, cleverly avoiding all the important points, like a master minesweeper, taking light and precise steps. Then you could see the reporters getting ready to launch another aggressive attack.

But this time, Lu Ke didn't give them a chance.

"For you, happy hour is over, but for us, happy hour is just beginning. Now, I'm going to join my teammates and enjoy the moment. We can save the interview for next time."

Lu Ke spoke first, using a double entendre again. His simple words were meaningful. Then, Lu Ke didn't stop and turned around, walking away from the interview area. The reporters suddenly panicked. Had their happy hour just been cut short?

"Bambi, you can't do this! You have an obligation to do an interview!" Harry shouted hoarsely, trying to get Lu Ke to stop. "According to league rules, you have to do at least 20 minutes of interviews! Bambi!"

Lu Ke turned around, pointed to the watch on his left wrist with his right index finger, and made a gesture with a brilliant smile on his face. Then he turned around again and walked away. The reporters then realized that the official interview time had already passed, and there was nothing wrong with Lu Ke leaving.

Seeing that Lu Ke was about to turn around and leave again, Jay took a big step forward and shouted urgently, "Bambi, can you do a one-on-one interview tonight? Or tomorrow?"

"Of course. Give me a call," Lu Ke replied simply.

The next second, Jay realized that sharp looks were falling on him.
