BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
The cannons fired first, the state-of-the-art technology completely surpassing everything that the Holy Allied Territories had expected.
It was accurate, fast, and absolutely devastating.
CRASH!
The first volley had reached its target, reaching the enemies in seconds as dozens of marching men were completely obliterated, the first volley destroying their formation.
"Don't falter! Replace the fallen ranks!"
Marquis Raven yelled out from his camp, his generals delivering his message with war horns that bore his message. They were an army that was experienced in war, made to destroy infidels.
But they hadn't expected an enemy like this, completely isolated in foreign hostile territory; it was impossible to retreat if they broke morale.
The only way forward is to march and hope for the best.
"Second volley!"
Lucan yelled out, commanding the rate of fire for the cannons.
"Fire!"
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
The sounds of gunpowder rang out in chorus, another volley completely tearing through enemy ranks; it was like cutting through paper.
"Ready! Fire!"
This time, Caesus spoke, commanding the trebuchets as he focused on where the enemy trebuchets were located using Fenrix's guidance.
They didn't want to give the enemy a chance to use their siege engines.
Even a single shot alone would be huge damage to their treasuries, damage that would take weeks or months to recover.
"Their siege engines are stuck in the snow! Tear through them!"
FWOOSH!
FWOOSH!
FWOOSH!
The enemy had better numbers; even their siege engines were enough to completely level Snowkeep, but what they hadn't accounted for was the harsh winter storm on the day of the siege.
The thickness of the snow made it nearly impossible to adjust their trebuchets.
"Baron Ilmund! Help with the trebuchets! We're sitting ducks without them!"
Count Besmund barked out. He was supposed to be the first of the men to charge through Snowkeep, using cover from their artillery to scale and destroy the walls and gates.
But now... they had no choice but to advance slowly.
The storm was getting stronger every second, yet their opponents showed no signs of slowing down.
Meanwhile, at the trebuchets, Barom Ilmund had just recently arrived, sprinting on foot as he cast magic on the trebuchet's surfaces.
"Ignis!"
He was another one of the gods' gifted; all three of them, in particular, had gifts, but most of them were useless at the current stage of the war.
Only Ilmund could contribute by thawing the snow in their artillery.
FWISH!
The sound of snow melting was enough to increase the Holy Allied Territories' morale, their trebuchets finally turning usable as they fired their first volleys.
It was now starting to turn into an actual siege.
*** Snowkeep - Battlements ***
"They've finally fired!"
Justinian barked, immediately going through his system for a quick purchase.
[Prestige Shop]
Foresight: 5000 Prestige
'This is an expensive purchase... but I can't go wrong with this one!'
The moment Justinian bought his ability, he could immediately feel his mind being overwhelmed by the limitless possibilities of the future.
In his current state, he could see ten seconds, but five seconds was all he needed; he didn't need to see where the first volley would land. He only needed to calculate and estimate where it did using his knowledge.
The moment he got it, he immediately barked out orders, his voice peaking and cracking as he commanded the soldiers beside him to warn the areas that were about to get hit.
In that moment, the entire capital was in motion, formations shifted quickly, their eerily coordinated movements a shocking sight to see for the slowly marching crusaders as they saw their first volley bounce harmlessly.
It had pierced the enemy's walls... but as for human casualties? They had none.
"D-did they just predict where it would land!?"
"Now's not the time!"
The soldiers on the ground bickered at each other as they continued to charge, gaining inches over agonizing inches of land as their heavy armor made it near impossible to maneuver through the snow.
And adding to the constant cannon bombardments...
Justinian had recreated the Normandy landings in a feudal setting.
"They've finally moved past the first and seventh cavalry division!"
Fenrix barked out, using his gifts to send out orders from behind enemy lines, using animals he possessed to command the cavalry regiments that waited behind the flora.
Waiting for the perfect moment to strike at the enemy's flank.
*** Snowkeep Forests ***
"Do you hear that...?"
A captain spoke, his spine cringing at the sounds of bombardment and men screaming from the Marquis' side.
"They're being massacred."
"Massacred is a strong word; they still far outnumber us, even with the damage their accumulating."
"Doesn't mean their winning though."
They were captains who had the best performance during Justinian's night raid, and now they were tasked with commanding the cavalry divisions tasked to flank the enemy siege engines.
Compared to their heavily armored brethren by the walls, they only had simple leather-equipped equipped, their horses small but sturdy.
They didn't plan to stay for long.
WOOF!
A sudden bark from a wolf startled them, its weird demeanor enough to signal to them it was one of their own.
"Is that the signal?"
"Look at its eyes and fur... its glowing..."
"It has to be Lord Fenrix!"
The captains responded, each of them unsheathing their swords and raising them high.
"Our time is here! Don't focus on killing the most! Make sure to devastate their artillery! And that is all!"
The entire cavalry yelled out in a fierce war cry as they began to gallop out of the forests.
As for the enemy camp where the trebuchets were stationed, it was a sight to behold.
"Lord Raven! We've got at least eighty cavalry heading to our camp!"
A soldier yelled out, entering Raven's tent without so much as asking for permission, with a war as devastating as this, even protocols had to be broken.
"What!?"
"What's the generals' response!?"
"The heavy cavalry is currently meeting them head-on."
*** Snowkeep - Enemy Camp Outskirts ***
THUD!
THUD!
THUD!
The ground shook.
Heavy riders thundered into view, silver armor glinting under the stormlight.
"We've got company!"
A captain from Justinian's cavalry division yelled out, seeing the heavily armed cataphracts that were currently trying to block their advance.
"Don't worry about them! Their damned equipment won't be able to catch up to us!"
Another captain yelled out, a manic grin on his face.
"Remember the mission! Don't be a hero!"
