Deal with The Devil!

Chapter 88: Enlightenment

"He finished so quickly?"

"Again?"

"Even that boy named Dean Black was not as fast as him."

The whole class watched in awe as Jinn breezed through one level after another with such ease.

Even Evelyn and Lloyd also watched the performance with serious contemplating looks in their eyes.

No one knew what was going on in their heads, but it was clear that Jinn's prowess had made them see him in a new light.

The ball on the screen moved so smoothly that it almost matched the speed of what the professor had shown them.

Miss Skinner narrowed her eyes as she saw Jinn clearing the fourth level with the same ease as before. 'His control is really exceptional for someone his age and background…'

The reason she did not ask anyone to introduce themselves was because she already knew about them.

She had read all the information on every child in her class the day before.

She knew who Jinn was and where he came from. Someone with his background was supposed to be just another face in the commoners.

How could someone who had no training from the day he awakened accomplish such refined control over this innate energy?

'Is this because he had a starless awakening?'

Just as the thought crossed her mind, she noticed something else.

Jinn still had not shown any signs of feeling troubled or even getting tired.

'could he really manage to complete the task I gave on a whim?'

The truth was that even Olivia knew how absurd her task was, but she wanted to weed out the talented bunch from the start.

This exercise was also a way for her to humble the arrogant noble children and make them realize their inferiority.

While she was deeply lost in her thoughts, Jinn wondered, 'They don't even realize they made a game that could go viral if released out in the world.'

The frustration he had been seeing on the faces of students who failed and the eagerness to go again in their eyes…

If this was not a successful game that could drive people into breaking their expensive things, then what was?

'But these levels…' rushing the ball through the fourth star, he pondered seriously. 'They are really made with purpose.'

Mainframe

Legs

Kidneys

Heart

And now looking at the fifth level, Jinn was able to confirm his guess. 'These levels… they are the vascular structure of each part of the body.'

'Even though they are not as detailed and branching as the real thing. They are just the main channels to make these children more familiar with the body before they even channel the energy through the real thing.'

Was that it?

Could it be…

This was the real path. The way to expand the awakened chakra to the limit?

Or was it something deeper… something more profound?

A way to the next step, the next Chakra point.

Each thought drummed in his mind after the other. The anticipation that he might be onto something made Jinn almost lose control over the ball.

Just as it was about to touch the wall, he drifted it away at the last second, saving himself from the embarrassment.

"So, even he is not doing as smoothly as he likes others to think."

"Yeah, he just has a good poker face."

"Indeed. He must be the son of a low-ranking noble or merchant since he was able to come this far."

While the others saw Jinn's action as the limit of his capabilities, Evelyn noticed the shining glow in his distracted eyes.

She turned her head upwards in silence and saw the ball on the screen slowing down.

'What did you notice… why are you suddenly taking this more seriously?'

Professor Olivia looked at the black-haired boy with confusion as well. She did not understand what the boy was doing, but she also did not question him.

'If this is necessary for the future progression, I should focus on getting familiar with these routes and imprint them in my instincts.'

When he had first started taking on the devil form, Jinn had trouble controlling his transformation. Sometimes a tail would appear behind him or his wings or horns.

It was fortunate that the voice was there to guide him, and the babies of his age were just rarely visited by the wet nurses.

"This…"

Suddenly the whole class fell in silence as Jinn cleared the fifth level.

"Wait… how long did the other guy take?"

"…Fifteen minutes."

"He did it in less than five."

The whole class turned silent after that. Even those who hoped Jinn would fail no longer voiced out their thoughts.

Because…

Even after entering the Sixth Level, Jinn was not showing signs of stopping.

After another close encounter with the wall, he regained a firm hold on the ball and kept advancing.

Now everyone just had one thought on their mind…

'Just who is this boy?'

The sixth level was not only more complicated than the previous levels, but the restrictions and the speed of the ball made it even more difficult for someone to break it.

From one wider road to a thinner one, Jinn slowly made it to the finish line.

"The last level…"

"Can he clear this task in one go?"

Dean suddenly chuckled hearing the gossip behind him and said lazily, "did you forget something? He beat your champion's record in one try."

"Unbelievable."

They were too shocked to even show a proper reaction, but a certain boy who seemed proud at the name of Otis Douglas before now had a sour look on his face.

'I will reclaim the glory of the Douglas Family, just you wait.'

Jinn stood in his spot like an unmovable mountain. He didn't rush the next step.

He simply breathed in, breathed out, and guided the ball forward again.

The seventh level appeared on the screen, and without even waiting for Jinn, the ball charged straight ahead.

But even then, Jinn's expression did not change. His hand rested lightly on the control sphere, and his eyes fixed on the air up ahead.

The ball moved through the routes like charging waves, sometimes slow, sometimes faster.

Then…

Another star glowed.

"Seventh level… cleared…"

Someone whispered, but no one replied. Their eyes are glued to the screen.

The eighth level appeared. This time the routes were not narrower, just tangled up, one over the other.

Clink!

Yet another level cleared.

Professor Olivia's lips pressed into a thin line. She leaned forward unconsciously, as if afraid to miss a single moment.

Ninth level.

"What a monster."

Lloyd's fingers curled up under the desk. His lips thinned and his eyes narrowed. He no longer looked as calm as before.

'I wonder how many levels the rest of them can clear.' Jinn casually thought to himself while guiding his energy. He was not going to underestimate his peers. 'Even if they show their abilities, who knows whether they are hiding something or not?'

After completing the ninth level, Jinn finally showed signs of stress.

"…the final level."

"Can he do it?"

The Tenth level.

The final straw was Jinn needing to stay away from the class for the rest of his week.

After crossing the level, he could very well walk out of the room, and no one would stop him.

"It seems not everyone is a dimwit like the rest of you." Amidst the anticipation and hyped students, a cold voice did not spare any chance to mock them.

Everyone turned their heads, wanting to respond to the person responsible.

Professor Olivia…

Better not say anything.

"This is the minimum level you need to have to even start training the real thing. Don't shame yourself for trying something before you can reach this level. Otherwise the rest of the staff members will think I did not teach you anything."

Even though they did not say anything back, the professor finally decided to stop after one last comment.

Humm!

Then, she turned her attention to the projection in the air.

The rest suppressed the bitter feelings in their hearts and leaned forward as well.

The ball moved.

After several twists and turns, Jinn was now only a few turns away from the open area. The spot where the final star rested.

"Heavens… he is doing it."

"He will create history."

"Idiot, he will be able to do something even better."

"What is that?"

"He will be able to leave the class early and won't have to attend any lecture for the whole weekend."

"Ughh…"

The atmosphere in the class had changed a lot since Jinn started displaying his capabilities.

"…maybe only four people in our batch can contend with him."

At first there was a competitive spirit in their eyes. Then came jealousy and envy.

Now finally…

They were all cheering for Jinn, hoping he would be able to do something no one else did.

"Go for it, partner." Dean was especially loud with his cheers when the expression on Jinn's face suddenly changed.

Now everyone glared at him. He raised his hands in defiance and said, "Wait, I did not do anything."

Everyone looked back to the front and saw the glow on Jinn's hand receding even though he was still two turns away from the star.

He turned towards the professor and asked dumbfoundedly, "I can't control it anymore… what's happening?"
