"That's so adorable," she said, smiling at Griffenne, who giggled, jumping down before yawning loudly, but still racing into the house with Everlearn in her arms.
Though even as they left, he still felt the woman's suspicious gaze right at the back of his head.
"Greta."
Grildor called out to his wife, who turned to him with furrowed eyebrows.
"Where did you get that thing from?" she asked, and he paused, looking at her serious expression.
That was exceedingly rare.
"It was just after the Illumino Mech Grave, still within the boundary of the hunting grounds," he responded.
"Do you not think him different from a beast?"
"I do. He looks almost like us, just tiny. And he's been unnervingly calm and quiet."
"But as much as he's like that, he doesn't look as aggressive as the other beasts. He's harmless," Grildor defended, but her furrowed eyebrows showed she wasn't accepting that.
"Oh, do not worry about it."
"Nothing will happen to Griffenne. Not when we're both by her side," he said, his hands winding around her gently as he softly kissed her neck.
That seemed enough to pull her out of her cautionary state, as she turned fully to him, giving him a deep kiss.
___________
It was already evening when they pulled up to the house, and the family did nothing but eat and then leave for their rooms.
And of course, the girl still grabbed him along with her, and even in sleep, she still hugged the cage tightly to herself.
It had been a couple of hours now, and Greta had come in to check on her daughter while also eyeing Everlearn, who pretended he was asleep too.
She eventually left with a shrug.
But now was the best time to move.
His hands reached forward, and he grabbed both edges of the cage, pulling it aside.
They easily moved to the side, and Everlearn stepped out of the cage.
'Tsk, to think they were so reassured such a weightless thing could keep me in,' he thought, shaking his head before jumping off the bed and onto the stony ground.
Even though they were inside a mountain, this place didn't seem like one at all.
It had been properly crafted in such a way that one would find it hard to distinguish it from a real home.
And since giants lived within, it was crafted to be very spacious.
The system had given him no quests or anything to follow, but Everlearn knew what he ought to do.
And he did just that.
Walking forward, he soon found a drawer that hid thick, leather-bound books, tucked away on a shelf.
It seemed similar to a study area built into Griffenne's room.
He climbed up it before pushing a couple of books off.
The girl was snoring so loudly that he wasn't worried about her waking from the noise.
Jumping back down, he swiped open the page of one of the books, and all he saw were nonsense scribbles and drawings.
'Seems like children will always be children,' he mused, pushing the book aside and opening the rest.
Out of the seven books he pushed down, five of them were filled with the same thing.
Only two had some content, some topics about the tribe, and Everlearn's eyes shone at the sight.
This was exactly what he needed.
To learn more about these races.
Silently, he stood on the book, going through every bit recorded, flipping through the pages.
But unknown to him, a shadow appeared, and soon after, a ghostly white being silently stepped forward.
Though her heavy feet met the ground, not even the slightest sound was produced.
It was none other than Greta who turned to look at her daughter.
She was sleeping peacefully, and her eyes moved to the cage she hugged.
There was nothing inside, but the clear sign of the metallic rods having been smoothly bent.
She turned her head, and standing on the book, flipping through the pages was the so-called "pet beast."
He had bent the cage he was in so smoothly, showing he was most likely never even trapped in that thing in the first place.
And secondly, he was reading.
If he were a beast, why would the first thing he think of be books!?
Slowly, she crept up to him, but just four meters away, he suddenly paused, snapping his head behind.
Everlearn looked behind him, but there was nothing.
"Why do I feel like the air feels weird... as if someone is blocking it?"
He mused quietly, but then he shrugged, looking at the quiet room and turning back to his reading.
Five seconds had yet to pass when he hurriedly shot off the book, but he never moved far before two white palms suddenly materialized out of thin air and wrapped around him in a circle.
"Got you!"
Greta mused, but then she froze when she saw Griffenne rolling in her bed.
She had said those words too loudly, and it had disturbed her.
But the little girl only rolled around before she came to a stop, snuggling deeper with the empty cage.
Huuuuuu,
She unconsciously exhaled at the sight, and with palms folded tightly, she walked out of the room, moving out of the house completely.
Only then did she swing her hands downward, and Everlearn was sent flying, tumbling a couple of times before rolling to a stop.
'Now, that right there is bullying!'
"Who are you....What are you?"
Greta asked, pulling an iron rod from the side as she stepped toward Everlearn, who raised his arm to his mouth while crossing them.
"Oh, don't play dumb with me. I heard you speaking back there in the room."
"Something about—'Why do I feel like the air felt weird. As if someone is blocking it?" she said, and Everlearn's eyes gleamed, as realization crossed through.
'So she was indeed there... at my back, though I couldn't see her.'
'Does that mean...'
"You can turn invisible!?"
