"An expedition!?"
Everlearn mused in dumb shock.
But it wasn't even just an expedition; it was one normally reserved for 2nd years, and he was chosen to take part.
That wasn't something he expected at all.
"Finally. Staying here, doing the same routine in and out, makes me feel like I will explode out of my mind."
He mused to himself, but then, he paused, an idea crossing through his head.
"Wait, I'll be… moving outside!"
He realized, and in the next moment, Everlearn rose to his feet, walking to the desk.
Sitting on the chair, he switched on his Monitor and immediately started typing.
Brows creased, eyes locked in focus, Everlearn continued working for about four hours before backing off from the computer.
"This is it… This is my chance."
Three months in here, Everlearn had done just one thing: made sure he grew as fast as he could.
He had gone all out when it came to his strength:
Completing as many quests as possible, acquiring various combat manuals to learn new skills, attending every class, and even challenging the top ten, defeating them one by one until he finally ranked fourth.
He had only stopped there because he knew the top three likely wouldn't pose much of a challenge, so he chose to remain in fourth place and defend his position.
But even with all of that growth, he had still felt stifled.
While he had indeed grown so much, he had done nothing to further his true goals:
Getting revenge against Mecha Eva and the Mechara Organization.
Students were not allowed to leave the Academy, ever!
Only after making several searches did he find out that only third years were allowed to go out.
That meant for the first two years, he would be stuck in this place, never able to leave.
If he never left, he would never achieve his revenge, and the more time passed, the harder things would get.
But now, with this expedition, there was a chance, and he had even been able to narrow down Mecha Eva's last seen position.
Finally, he could make some progress.
Tomorrow was Sunday, which meant there would be no classes, and he could easily guess that the expedition would most likely begin then.
He had planned to play games through the night and drown in combat simulations in his training room right after, but instead, he turned off the TV and immediately headed to his bedroom.
He needed to make sure he was in peak state tomorrow.
__________
DRRRIINNG!
The sound of the alarm ringing woke him up as a blue light flickered through the room.
He picked up his device and glanced at the time.
"5:15."
Jumping up, he quickly got himself dressed before moving to the living room.
Grabbing his bag off the table, he headed to the wall just behind his TV and tapped rhythmically on it, then waited.
WHIIIIR!
The sound of technological whirring echoed out in the next moment, and Everlearn turned, finding the wall shifting in.
Out came a platform.
On it were a couple of objects, some in the shape of cubes, some faintly spherical, while others were shaped like prisms.
Everlearn picked up five cubes, three of the spheres, and one pyramid that rippled with golden light.
He stored them all in his bag, grabbed his device, and when he stepped out of the dorm building, it was 5:35.
"Let's see what all of this is about."
Ten minutes later, he came to stand before a building.
He checked the map and his brows furrowed slightly.
This building wasn't an ordinary one.
In fact, it was usually labeled inaccessible to all students, including both first and second years.
It was a staff building, yet the signal on the map told him this was the exact place he'd been instructed to come.
And while it usually had a red inaccessibility mark, today it showed green, like any building he was allowed in, confirming it was probably the right one.
"Huuuuu…"
Exhaling slightly, Everlearn made his way forward, pushing open the glass door.
But as he stepped in, he couldn't help but feel a mild vibration, as if he was crossing through a field.
The second the world solidified around him, he found himself in a hall:
A hall of pure white, where five seats could be seen, along with a levitating platform floating in the air without any visible aid.
'Probably just Elec forces,' he mused to himself, but then felt the gazes on him, and his brows creased when he saw them.
He couldn't help but recheck his device.
"5:46."
'They came so early!?' Everlearn thought in surprise.
"What the!? A first year!?"
"Dude, did you lose your way!?"
"Wait, wait, wait, isn't this that newcomer genius with that girly-ass name?"
"The Ever dude!?"
Everlearn's eyes dimmed when he looked at the four second years occupying four of the five seats.
He never liked those second years, and his relationship with them was as bad as bad could be.
But then, silence fell over the room as a sudden burst of brilliant white light illuminated the space, capturing everyone's attention.
It came from the levitating platform.
"That is..."
"Sir Lycanthrope!?
