Reborn As The Barbarian God

Chapter 73: Relics

Galthor suddenly became cautious as he looked at the relics. Although he had asked for a legacy, it wasn't something he actually expected her to provide, and the fact that she was offering that many relics suddenly made him twitchy.

"What is this job you speak of after the Abyssal exploration?"

She smiled. "It's a rather simple thing, Lord Galthor. You just need to open a way for me...."

She paused. "...you are the only known Apostle of the barbarian god. I believe you can do something like that."

Galthor remained silent. He'd read enough books to know the type of gifts she's offering wouldn't come without strings, and what she called 'just open a way for me' might as well turn into something really troublesome.

But at the same time, he already knew he was going to accept the relics. "What do they do? And how many sets are there?"

"It's called the Blood Searching Set."

Karathra twitched. Her eyes were filled with greed just like the others, but she still tried her best to hide it and appear casual as she said, "That's a very strange name."

Lady Pelica nodded. "That's the name that came with it. And it's one of my most lucky possessions. This coffin is also part of the set, but not the same rank as the weapons. It's higher... don't bother, I can't give you the coffin.

"There are ten sets to the relics, and they will take shape into whatever type of weapon and armor you want. Right, once you activate it, the relic will turn into any armor and weapon that you want."

Galthor's eyes gleamed. No wonder she called it one of her lucky possessions. "What are the benefits and drawbacks?"

"As the name implies, Blood Searching. Once you activate the relic, you must make sure it drinks blood before it can be deactivated. If you do not give it blood for some time, then it will start drawing from the host until they become a pile of bones and flesh."

The masters shuddered, and they did not look at the relics with the same greedy eyes as before. Lady Pelica noticed this, and she smiled. "Fret not, are you not going to fight monsters? There's no way there won't be blood."

Galthor nodded. She was right. "Then what about the benefits?"

"That. The relic will double your physical strength while boosting resistance to mental attacks and providing the same formidable mental assault. It also uses the blood of the enemy and the host's blood to form attacks."

The masters looked at the relics with gleaming eyes again.

"I see. That's quite a lot," Galthor admitted.

"It is. It's one of my treasured relics, and I paid quite the price to get it. As a set relic, you can change places with other users of the relic if they've activated it and allowed it. Also, if used together on the same battlefield, they can cause extraordinary events."

Galthor looked at her deeply. "Why do you want to lend us this kind of valuable relic?"

"Because it's the only type that could turn the tables for you. Unlike the other banners, you Stronghide are like pebbles... no, even pebbles could be difficult depending on the situation. You are like the shadow of the smallest ant insect."

Galthor did not feel insulted by what she said. It was the truth. "Why do you wish to join us then?"

"Because nothing is set in stone. The Stronghide now has the potential to rise. I'm betting on that," she replied calmly.

"That's a strange way to bet. You're not telling the whole truth," Galthor replied.

"Of course I'm not. You're not saying the whole truth either. But I'll tell you this... this is the first time I'm feeling genuine divinity from barbarians. That's something to bet on."

Galthor had nothing to say after that, and he turned his attention back to the relics. "Binding of relics is relatively easy, but taking them off can be dangerous. Either they're dead or in a very painful situation."

She snorted and tapped the coffin. "This is the main relic that's bound directly to me. I can break and form new bindings to others with this. So, you can put your mind at ease concerning that."

As she spoke, the weapons in the coffin floated out, eight of them, and they came to rest in front of all the masters, including Galthor.

Some were simple short swords or daggers. There was even a throwing star.

"Just take them. It doesn't matter what shape they take now; they'll change for you once you activate them. You can put your hands atop the relics now."

They did.

It felt surprisingly and strangely warm to Galthor's touch, and he frowned. But the next second, he forgot that as he felt a connection click in his mind.

With a simple mental command, he controlled the flying dagger in front of him to come and rest before him. And he knew he could activate it with a touch if he wanted to at any moment.

The others were feeling the same thing as they all took the weapons.

Galthor turned to the masters. He could feel where the other holders of the weapons were at any moment, and what's more, he could feel the coffin and sensed the loyalty of the relics toward it.

What a strange thing.

But even then, he could also feel the strength and power that were waiting for him should he activate it. The powers of Exalted-ranked relics were no joke; they were as strong as when Galthor first awakened.

Galthor cleared his throat. "Thank you, Lady Pelica, for this gift."

She smiled. "No, no. There's no need for thanks. After all, you are still going to pay me back for it. On that same note, I should really warn you about trusting the banner lords."

Galthor looked at her without surprise. "Of course. Why wouldn't I be suspicious about them? We're barbarians after all...."

He paused a little. "Especially after everything you told me about how our blood is used in the outside world."
