Reborn As The Barbarian God

Chapter 80: Parting words

Galthor gave the masters time to speak with anyone they wanted to before they departed. Most of them had people they deeply knew and even lovers among them.

But Karathra stood next to Galthor and pointed with a head nod. "Are you really sure you want her to tag along? We cannot split our attention in the Abyssal land."

Galthor shrugged. "She said she could hold her own and I think we should see what she would do. But I really do not think she would be able to keep up."

Karathra gave him a curious look but Galthor did not explain. She must not have known that the same Lady intruded and read her memory the night before.

Frankly, Galthor was also curious about what she would be able to do.

On the side, Lady Pelica was speaking with Han. "Do not forget you are their slave now, you should follow all their orders."

"All of them?" Han raised his brows.

"You know what I mean, Han, but... you should protect them. If anything happens, make sure you protect them without holding back."

Han went very still. "My Lady... are you sure?"

"I am."

"But why are you going to such lengths for them? Are they worth that much trouble?"

Lady Pelica leaned close. "Just do as you are told. We need to make sure they owe us a favor so if anything does happen, take care of it and let them know you did it."

Han bowed. "As you wish, my Lady."

They began their journey into the Abyssal land when they confirmed that the other banners were on the move as well. The four forces met at the entrance of the forest, and it seemed they were actually surprised to see that the barbarians were there.

But even more, they seemed confused to see a human among them. After they exchanged pleasantries, they all went in.

Galthor studied the forces of the other banners. Apart from the leaders themselves, all the other warriors that followed them were in the masters rank with a few above that.

He could not find any relics on them, but then again, everyone had their ways of concealing things like that, so he was not surprised.

And then they entered the Abyssal land and the oppressive air weighed on them once more, making them feel on instant edge even when there was no immediate threat.

They walked their way deeper in, not waiting to explore. Since their exploration into the Abyssal land a few months back, they had already chased most of the cursed monsters deeper into the Abyssal land.

With Karathra leading, they began to head deeper themselves, far more than they had ever gone in any of their explorations.

"Why is it so hard to breathe?" Rukar suddenly asked, his face filled with a hint of fear.

It was Lady Pelica who answered. "The air is one of the ways to know how deep one is in the Abyssal land. The stronger and harder it is, the closer you are to the core. To the central."

No wonder it almost felt like breathing in the sea and they had to actually use their essence to help them continue breathing.

"What is the other thing to note?" Hrothgar asked. The big barbarian was in the lead with Karathra, but since he was a master, he could hear everything around him.

"The corruption. Although you masters might not feel it too easily, the deeper you go the more you become corrupted and tainted. An ordinary person that went this far would already be dead from that alone."

"What corruption?"

"Death. The Abyssal land is made from the graveyard of gods and demons. Even the Supreme Deity perished there. This corruption they left behind is trying to swallow the whole world. That is why we fight the Abyssal land. It also helps that the countless beings that died also formed into relics and legacies," Lady Pelica explained.

Karathra's voice came from the front as they tried to digest that. "Then what about in the past? Before the Abyssal land? How were relics and legacies formed?"

"Still in the same way, albeit a bit different. The bodies of entities are used to make it. Anyone unfortunate enough to die by the hand of entities would be turned into relics and legacies. Although such acts are banned now by the gods and they only gave us mortals the rights to make relics through the Abyssal land."

That was the first time that Galthor had heard something like that. "Why do such a thing? Why ban it? I thought this world is for the strong above the weak."

Lady Pelica shrugged and gestured around her. "The strong and the weak. Which is stronger than the law of the universe? The laws that were corrupted by the Abyssal war. Somehow, the gods making relics are triggering something bad. Do not ask me, I do not know as well.

"All I know is that only mortals are given such rights now."

Galthor gave her a curious look. "But even then, not all mortals could do it."

"Of course. Only those with the organizations that know the secrets. The Enchanters."

Galthor wondered how she could know all of that and at the same time he wondered just how powerful she was and not for the first time. He shook his head. "The Supreme Deity is sure powerful for his death to cause all of this."

"Of course, when one becomes the Supreme Deity of their world, all the laws and orders in it bow to them and they stand above all in that world."

"And yet they died."

"Yes. Demons are not beings of this world. They are not bound by its rules and laws. Of course, the death of the Supreme Being also changed that. Now, the laws are even more strange and tangled."

"You know about the laws?"

She laughed and shook her head. "That is the domain of the gods. Mortals cannot easily know about such things."

Galthor snorted. "Somehow, I get the feeling that you are not entirely being accurate."

"And yet I speak the truth. The world is more complicated than before. Especially now that we have no one to lead it."
