The first explosion tire through the Northern wall like a thunder made of solid material. A shockwave of raw Anti-arcane energy rippled outward, it was so pressurized and concentrated that it shattered glasses.
The once calm Reaper's academy was now twisted into swirl of shadowy figures and alarms screaming through every hallway.
Students poured out of the dormitories, even though the semester was over, there were still a great deal of students who were living in the dorms due to their homes being in farther cities and towns all over the country.
It was just like the first time the shadow creatures attacked, someone yelled for the barrier mages, someone else screamed a spell that fizzled halfway through as fear strangled their focus and resultantly their output.
The ground trembled from structures being brought down.
The first wave of shadow creatures were a crawling shear if darkness, with their forms shifting due to their natural hunger for positive magic energy.
Then hundreds of more poured through the cracks like liquid nightmares. Their forms weren't stable, twisting and reshaping with their eyes flaring hit red with greed and hunger.
"Hold the line! Hold damn line!" A senior instructor shouted, his voice half lost beneath the roar of chaos. His barrier spell formed as a brilliant purplish done but cracks were immediately spider webbed across its surface as claws and black teeth slammed against it.
A first year student stumbled beside him, trembling from fear. "I can't hold up the fortitude for the barrier sir! Its not stabilizing!"
The instructor grabbed the boy by his shoulders, forcing his gaze up. "Then breathe! Focus! They are attracted to our Arcane hearts and they will stop at nothing to get it!".
But the pep talk wasn't enough to raise such an inexperienced personnel. The barrier began to flicker like a dying candle and I. He next heartbeat, a claw burst through a grabbed the student across the chest. The scream of the student was drowned out by the sound of collapsing stone.
From the center courtyard, pillars of Arcane flame burst upwards as faculty members retaliated. Bolts of energy streaked across the field, lightning up the shadows with bursts of gold and purple energy. For every Shadow creature that fell, two more emerged, clawing their way out from the pool beyond the wall.
The air was now thick with clashing contrast of Arcane and Anti-arcane energy.
A tower collapsed in the distance, it was the library spire and the Shadow creatures were already scaling it and breaking down every Arcane infused element they could find.
Bear the East wing of the school, a group of second years formed a defensive circle, almost as if they were prepared for this moment.
Sweat streaming down their faces as they chanted in unison, summoning a radiant seal on the ground beneath them. The sigil flared brilliantly and then dimmed, it's was supposed to be a buffing spell, but the sheer fear the students were feeling didn't allow the Arcane output to be sufficient.
The students knew they were in for the worst when a guttural roar greeted them.
It appeared without wasting anytime. A tall, sleek humanoid Shadow creature with its skin like molten black Igor and red veins streaking all over. Eight arms extended outward, flexing with impossible unnatural movements.
It grinned with a wide, intelligent smile knowing that it has found a feast to enjoy. It's red W-shaped pupils dilated, reflecting the Mage second years waiting to meet their fate.
When it laughed, the sound wasn't like any other. It was like a vibration. The kind that seemed to crawl up bones and made hearts skip in fear.
A high-level instructor burst into the scene, yelling at the students to run and the he charged a streak of energy and sent it the way of the Shadow creature. The attack hit the creature fair and square on point, but when the smoke cleared the creature was gone, leaving not even a scent to suggest it's whereabouts.
"That was very weak..." An unsettling voice rang out from nowhere.
Then, without warning. The instructor was yanked downward. The creature rose behind him, standing and towering over the man at twelve feet tall now as its body stretched unnaturally and the reddish veins and sigils engraved all over its body began to glow.
The sickening squelch of blood rang into the air as and subsequently, the instructor fell flat on his face with massive dug through his chest region.
By that time, the students had already scattered, in an attempt to escape the tentacled monstrosity. But the creature was not in a hurry to give chase, it calmed down to enjoy the 'hearty' meal it had just dug out from its victims chest.
Whereas, from somewhere near the central plaza, another explosion tore through the air and skyward. The entire area was noisy as it was a massive clash of awakened spells and the wet sound of tearing flesh as the Shadow creatures were able to hunt down a few students using their overwhelming numbers.
And above everything else, in the high altitude of the school where the Chancellors office was located, the moonlight shobe a dim glow on the red eyed creature Regazan The Blood Faun as it made its way briskly into the quiet building.
It moved calmly like as if coming to give a returning gift to the Chancellor himself. To it, the Chancellor Hans Wagner was still on its list of individuals to cancel out and enjoy his ancient old Arcane burning in the history chest.
Although Shadow creatures had the tendency to enjoy svd go for younger people who were still freshly endowed with the awakening fuel.
The creature finally made its way into the courtyard of the compound and layed out a slight smile, just narrowly exposing its reddish teeth.
"Where is your saviour now?".
Meanwhile, in another section of the school, all out war had broken out between the Shadow creatures and the high members of the conference board. Dea. Lyria, Professor Aldric and Reaper Korvessa were in a seemingly fierce battle, trying as much as possible to prevent the deadly horde from advancing into the underground safe tunnels that Vice Chancellor Elara Voss had led the vast majority of the students.
Dean Lyria's fiery had lit up with flames like a wild fire as she stood at the front of the collapsing courtyard that advancly led to the emergency underground paths.
Immediately she caught sight of the the Shadow creature horde approaching with all animosity, she stood her ground and stiffened her posture, vowjhg not to let not even a single Shadow bastard to escape her sights.
"Skill..."
"Blazing Universe..."
Dean Lyria's awakened class was Pyromancer Class and she was one of the most gifted Awakened in all of Cindralock with her A-Rank abilities.
The skill she activated prompted a sea of fire that consumed the first wave of shadow creatures and the result was an entire area covered in a glow of orange and red.
Then the next wave hit and it seemed like for every Shadow creature burnt to smoldering black vapour, two more rose in its place.
Beside her stood Professor Aldric with his mechanical eye gleaming like molten silver under the light from the raging fire that burnt the creatures. He too was of Pyromancer Class and also an A-Rank awakened ability, but he was not just any pyromancer; he had unlocked the advanced elemental control of his abilities.
Therefore, it was uncommon for him to take things a step further.
He slammed his staff into the ground, and lightning crackled along the length of it, wrapping around his arm and hissing against the stone floor of the courtyard.
"Burn, damn it...!" He roared, thrusting his palm foward. "Skill... Arc Discharge: Overload!".
Krrrrraaaaa!!!!
Bolts of hot, white lightning rained down directly from the sky with amazing speed. So hot that it seemed to fuel Dean Lyria's flames even more, turning the field into an amazing symphony of destruction.
The creatures were disintegrating mid charged, with their twisted shadowy forms falling apart and reducing to nothing but vapour and black dust.
Aldric spat out a volume of saliva. "Their numbers are endless... It's even more than last time, where do the keep coming from and where have they been hiding with such a large number undetected..."
