Chapter 145: The Second Reaper Guardian

"Player Chang Long has successfully completed the hidden quest to free Cedric. Receiving Level 10 Special Blood Ruby Sword. As the bearer of the Reaper title, you are automatically given the quest to find the Four Reaper Guardians. The party of Player Chang Long and pets have slain 600 Level 45 Undead Servant Beasts, receiving 5,250,000 experience points."

"Player Chang Long has slain the Level 76 Elizabeth Bathory Beast King, receiving 333,050 experience points and 2,368,000 coins. Receiving 1 Advanced Blood Crystal Alchemy Tome."

"Player Chang Long has fulfilled the basic requirements for level advancement. Level up to 62, 63... 65. Due to the high level of Player Chang Long, you have unlocked specific skills of the spirits under your control. Receiving Level 1 Spirit Incarnation skill from Devi-chan and Blade Storm Skill Level 1 from Hisa-chan."

(Spirit Incarnation skill allows the spirits under your control to temporarily take physical form, requiring 300 mana to maintain. As the skill level increases, it will allow more than one spirit to incarnate and reduce the mana cost by 50 per level. The Blade Storm Skill dissolves the player's weapon, forming a razor-sharp storm that can be used for both defense and attack. The intensity of the skill depends on the player's level.)

"Sacred Beast Flame Fox, Kitsune has leveled up to 60, 61... 63. Flame Fox, Kitsune has accumulated 1,000 souls, resulting in the growth of an additional tail. Flame Fox, Kitsune has acquired the Hundred Forms skill, which is the second stage of the Transformation skill."

(Hundred Forms skill is similar to the Shape-shifting skill but allows the transformed state to be maintained permanently.)

Chang Long nearly fell backward from the system's extensive and prolonged report. It was the longest and most detailed she had ever received, and that was not the end. There were still matters of Cedric and the spirit of Elizabeth Bathory.

Cedric, now freed, walked up and knelt in respect to Chang Long, holding his Blood Ruby Sword, his weapon, and offered it to her.

"I can't use other weapons anymore. You keep it,"

Chang Long said. Cedric smiled slightly and replied,

"You don't need to wield it yourself, my lord. Just issue commands verbally or mentally."

"Really?!" Chang Long asked excitedly.

"Indeed, my lord. Both I and the Blood Ruby Sword are now your property. From now on, I will follow you as your guardian, just as in the past,"

Cedric said with a content smile. Finally, he had found his master after wandering aimlessly until he lost his power and had to enter a deep slumber for so long.

"By the way, are you a spirit or do you have a physical body?"

Chang Long asked curiously. She reached out to touch Cedric and found that he did not have a physical body, just like her two other ghosts. She tried to touch Cedric with the spirit tablet, but nothing happened.

Cedric smiled at her actions and explained that his spirit resided within the Blood Ruby Sword. Chang Long then accepted the sword, which seemed to float in the air rather than being handed over. She attached the Blood Ruby Sword to her belt next to the Sovereign Sword, then turned to look at Elizabeth Bathory's spirit, trapped and wailing in the Spirit Net.

"Actually, I should tell you that you have the right to refuse. But if you agree to be my spirit, you must obey me without question. Otherwise, I will discard your spirit, and if you do something more heinous than disobedience, I might accidentally destroy your spirit!"

Chang Long said to Elizabeth Bathory's spirit, which glared at her as if ready to tear her apart.

"I!..."

Elizabeth Bathory started to snap, but when she glanced at Cedric, she relented. If she agreed to be Chang Long's spirit, she could stay with Cedric. If not, she would be separated from him forever.

"Agreed! I am willing to be in your spirit and will obey you without question..."

Elizabeth Bathory's spirit said. Chang Long smiled satisfactorily. She took out a white jade spirit tablet from her bag and looked at the vampire woman one more time.

"You are a Beast King. I hope you keep your word."

Chang Long touched the spirit tablet to Elizabeth Bathory's transparent body. The vampire's spirit turned into a white light and was quickly absorbed into the tablet.

"Player Chang Long has acquired the Level 76 Beast King Spirit of Elizabeth Bathory. Please name your spirit. If you do not name it, the system will use its original name."

The system's announcement made Chang Long smile slyly. Finally, it was time to get back at the annoying spirit.

"Alice-chan,"

Chang Long responded without hesitation.

"Do you want to confirm naming your spirit Alice-chan?"

"Confirm!"

Chang Long replied firmly. Instantly, the word 'Alice-chan' appeared in black letters with gold rim on the spirit tablet, officially transforming Elizabeth Bathory into Alice-chan.

Boommm!

A loud explosion from the second floor drew everyone's attention, making them think there was still an enemy left. However, it turned out to be Kitsune and Kimhant, who looked exhausted, standing at the top of the stairs.

"Yay. We finally made it out!"

Kimhant shouted in joy after enduring the smoke and stumbling over the scattered torture devices, acquiring several wounds from Kitsune's method of finding the way out.

"What are you guys doing?"

Chang Long looked up and asked the exhausted young men on the second floor with curiosity.

"Well, we got lost, master. So, I decided to just break our way out, as you can see. But it took quite a bit of effort,"

Kitsune replied cheerfully, shouldering his axe, glad to have finally reunited with his master.

"Uh-huh, we're done here. Let's get out quickly,"

Chang Long shrugged and walked to open the mansion door, discovering it was already nighttime. They decided to camp in front of the mansion until morning before continuing their journey.

Crack!

Boommm!

The mansion, damaged by Kitsune's fire, began to sound like cracking glass. Chang Long, Kitsune, and Kimhant, who were preparing to set up camp and start a fire, turned to see golden flames bursting through the roof. Despite the exterior of the mansion being made of marble, the interior was wooden, with almost all the furniture being wood, making excellent fuel. The entire mansion started to collapse.

"Run!"

Chang Long rolled her eyes and started running, not taking her gaze off the beautiful mansion now engulfed in golden flames.

"Yes, master!"

Kitsune, equally shocked, responded. The three of them turned their backs on the mansion and ran into the dark forest.

Chang Long stood panting in the quiet, dark forest. The sound of the mansion collapsing still echoed. The nearby beasts were also fleeing in panic, causing confusion. Eventually, she became separated from Kitsune and Kimhant. As Chang Long struggled to look around, she heard what sounded like someone lightly snoring nearby.

"What the...?"

Chang Long muttered, trying to locate the source of the sound.

'Stop. You're about to step on its tail,'

Devi-chan quickly warned. Fortunately, Devi-chan warned while still invisible; otherwise, it would have been his voice waking up the mysterious creature.

"Whose tail?"

Chang Long looked at Devi-chan, puzzled.

'The tail of a half-human, half-snake beast. There are a lot of them here. This must be their territory,'

Devi-chan explained. Hisa-chan, who joined them later, added,

'There is a ruined temple in the middle of their group, quite a distance from here. From the moonlight, I saw the tail of a large snake extending almost 2 meters out of the temple door.'

'It's an Ekhidna,'

Cedric said as he floated in to join them.

"The creature with the upper body of a beautiful woman and the lower body of a snake?"

Chang Long asked. Cedric nodded in response.

'Exactly. We should probably detour around the forest. My lord, you have not yet regained your true power, and are no match for her and her hundreds of minions.'

"Alright!"

Chang Long agreed and started walking back the way they came. But then, the ground in the area began to move loudly, causing Chang Long to be thrown nearly a foot off the ground.

'What the heck is that!'

Devi-chan exclaimed as he floated out to assess the situation. The snake-women, who had the upper body of a human and the lower body of a snake, awoke and hissed, slithering quickly towards the temple they had surrounded.

'That's Argus, the Hundred-Eyed Giant!'

Cedric exclaimed again upon seeing a massive figure resembling a man but over five meters tall, with eyes popping up all over his body. Each eye rolled independently as if each had its own thought, looking in different directions, making it appear confusing and dizzying. In his hand, he held a giant spiked club.

'He looks serious!'

Hisa-chan observed the face of the Hundred-Eyed Giant cautiously. He had a grim expression, as if in a rage against someone or something.

The Hundred-Eyed Giant Argus stopped and stared at the ancient vine-covered temple. The tail that had once extended beyond the temple door had vanished without anyone noticing. The snake-women hissed loudly throughout the forest, but Argus seemed uninterested. His hundred eyes scanned for a single target that refused to reveal itself.

Boommm!

The ground exploded behind Argus, scattering debris. He quickly jumped forward, turned around swiftly, and swung his giant club at Ekhidna, the beautiful half-snake woman over three hundred meters long, who lunged at him like a snake striking its prey.

Chang Long was thrown nearly a meter off the ground by Argus' jump, landing hard on her bottom. She stood up, rubbing her sore backside, and quickly turned to watch the exciting battle unfolding before her. About five hundred meters away, a large group of several hundred players was also watching the event unfold.

Players of various professions, both guild-affiliated and independent, had traveled from three cities: Tartarus, Ark, and Athens, which was considerably south of Ark. They had all rushed to the site because the system had suddenly announced this special event just as the sun was setting today.

Their common goal was to attack and weaken the two wounded Beast Kings to reap the benefits. The system had announced that the loot dropped by these Beast Kings would be all mystery boxes, with random rewards when opened, including rare golden mystery boxes.

Kitsune and Kimhant had encountered the large group of players, hundreds, or possibly thousand that were heading to the event site and followed them, asking why so many players had gathered. Kimhant was very interested when he learned about the event, forgetting that he had been separated from Chang Long. Kitsune, meanwhile, could not concentrate enough to telepathically communicate with Chang Long due to the noisy crowd.

Finally, Kimhant and Kitsune arrived at the event site, a vast dirt clearing with scattered rocks. On one side, a large temple stood against a rock wall, surrounded by countless Ekhidna beasts, with the upper bodies of women and the lower bodies of snakes, each about two and a half meters long. Kimhant found a good spot to watch and photograph the battle, while Kitsune went off to send a telepathic message to Chang Long.

'Master,'

Kitsune called out telepathically.

'Kitsune, where are you!'

His master responded, her voice filled with excitement.

'Where are you, master? Are you safe?'

Kitsune asked eagerly.

'I'm in the forest, watching the snake-woman and the hundred-eyed giant fight,'

Chang Long replied.

'I'm watching too. Where exactly are you, master? I'll come join you!'

Kitsune felt relieved, realizing they were not too far apart.

'I'm near the temple where the snakes are,'

Chang Long answered, her eyes glued to the battle. She was so close that she feared she might get caught in the crossfire without warning.

'I'll be there right away, master!'

Kitsune cut the telepathic link and hurried to find Kimhant so they could go to Chang Long together. Delaying could result in losing track of her again amidst the chaos of the battle.

Boommm!

Ekhidna was struck by Argus' spiked club, sent flying into a group of trees behind her, breaking them down over a hundred-meter stretch. Hissing in pain, Ekhidna lifted herself, preparing to strike like a poised snake. Luckily, her upper body was also covered in scales. These were fine, flesh-colored scales, which protected her from deep wounds. The only visible injuries were minor scrapes with some blood and a few missing scales.

Most of the hundreds of players watching from nearby turned into white lights, ascending into the sky. Many others were injured and quickly consumed blood crystals and rejuvenating crystals, then ran to find safer hiding spots. The Ekhidna minions, seeing the players' movements, swiftly attacked them without mercy, initiating a battle the players had not anticipated.

Argus, with one of his many eyes, glanced at the scene, aware of everything without needing to turn like Ekhidna. Seizing the moment when Ekhidna was distracted, he hurled his spiked club at her. However, Ekhidna, being quicker, dodged it just in time.
