Chapter 190: Return to the Starting Island

Chang Long opened the bottle and instructed the player to pry open his pet's mouth. Everyone watched the clear, sticky liquid in Chang Long's hand with curiosity, as none of them had ever seen a resurrection potion before. The only thing remotely similar was the elixir from the quest to find Princess Rhea, a clear, water-like liquid that emitted a faint white glow.

Chang Long carefully dripped a few drops of sticky liquid into the mouth of the cheetah, the dead pet of the player who had bought the Ice Coffin. As soon as the potion was absorbed, the cheetah's body began to emit a soft white glow, similar to the potion. The large wound on its belly slowly began to heal, knitting itself together in a miraculous display. Everyone held their breath, watching the transformation with anticipation. As the wound healed completely, the cheetah's chest began to rise and fall slightly, its nose and paws flushed with color. The player, on the verge of tears, watched in joy as his beloved pet's eyelids twitched and began to move.

Seeing that the resurrection potion had worked, Chang Long put the remaining potion back into her backpack. Shortly afterward, the cheetah opened its eyes and shakily stood up, walking over to nuzzle its master with affection. The player turned to Chang Long, thanking her repeatedly and handing over the Ice Coffin, as he no longer had any need for it.

"Good thing you found me before I used the Ice Coffin, since it's a one-time-use item,"

the player said with a smile. Chang Long smiled back, then unsealed Kitsune from her pet ring. The appearance of the four-tailed fox left everyone who had never seen Kitsune in his animal form utterly stunned.

"Incredible. It's not going to evolve into a nine-tailed fox, is it!"

Cat-Faced Angel asked excitedly. After all, encountering even a single-tailed fox was rare, except in the northern forests beyond the snowy plains, which Chang Long and her friends had crossed on their way to the Queen's Cave. It was said that the shrine of the god Inari, served by fox spirits, was located there.

"A nine-tailed fox?"

The cheetah's owner muttered in awe. Just then, Fluffy Head-chan strutted over and arrived at the entrance of the pet supply store, leaving both the shopkeeper and the player stunned once more.

"Nemean Lion!"

The player exclaimed. Fluffy Head-chan, unfazed, sat down outside the shop, as the door was too small for his massive body to fit through.

A kirin, a four-tailed fox, and the Nemean Lion, no one had ever seen a player possess so many high-tier creatures like Chang Long. Even though Fluffy Head-chan was a spirit, his body was not semi-transparent like Chang Long's ghost companions, especially under the Puppet Manipulation skill.

"How do I use it?"

Chang Long asked as she examined the Ice Coffin with curiosity. Despite its name, the Ice Coffin looked like a clear glass coffin and did not feel cold at all.

"Oh! Just place your pet inside the coffin, then wait and see the process begin,"

The shopkeeper, who had been silent for some time, quickly gave his advice. Chang Long nodded in acknowledgment and followed his instructions. She placed Kitsune's body into the Ice Coffin. Instantly, a chilling frost spread from the coffin, and ice crystals began to form over Kitsune's lifeless body, gradually encasing it in a thick layer of ice several inches thick.

"Player Chang Long has used the Ice Coffin on the pet Kitsune. The resurrection time has been extended from 24 hours to 720 hours,"

the system notification announced, causing Chang Long to sigh in relief. She now understood why the Ice Coffin was not a popular item—it still had a time limit. Given how rare resurrection potions were, players who bought the Ice Coffin but could not find a resurrection potion in time would have wasted both money and effort.

"Can I seal it back into the ring?"

Chang Long asked the shopkeeper, concerned. The pet shop owner nodded and explained,

"As long as it's still your a pet, you can seal it back into the pet-sealing accessory anytime, kid!"

Chang Long nodded, then sealed the Ice Coffin—more accurately, the block of ice containing Kitsune's body—back into her ring. The ring now had a thin layer of frost visible on it. She then sealed Hulu and all the other spirits as well, causing Fluffy Head-chan's battle form to vanish, leaving behind only a scratched wooden doll. Kimhant kindly offered to retrieve it from outside the shop and bring it back to her.

"How much for the coffin?"

Chang Long asked the young man, who was happily playing with his revived pet. He had noticed that his cheetah's loyalty had increased by several points after its resurrection.

"I'll give it to you as a thank-you for the resurrection potion,"

the man replied, even though he now had only a few hundred coins left. He was not too worried about it, though. Now that his pet was back, they could team up to hunt lower-level monsters and quickly earn money again, despite the high cost of in-game supplies.

"How much?"

Chang Long repeated, her tone firmer this time. The young man answered hesitantly.

"Five hundred thousand coins. But really, you don't need to pay me. I'm just happy to have my cheetah back,"

he quickly added, not wanting to take any money from her.

"I'll pay you half. After all, I only used a few drops of my potion. How do you want the payment—do you have a bank card?"

Chang Long offered. Although the man wanted to refuse, seeing the seriousness in Chang Long's expression, he realized he could not. He also figured the money would be useful for stocking up on potions and supplies, so he handed her his credit card.

"Thank you, and I've got to log off now. Bye,"

Chang Long said after returning the card. Kimhant was also about to log off, so he quickly ran after her. However, he barely made it a few steps before being automatically logged out.

.....

Chang Long sat up from her gaming console and sighed. It was almost 7 PM. Hearing some noise from downstairs, she went to check it out and found her father, back from the seminar in Australia, instructing the maids to bring in souvenirs.

"Moddang, where's Chang?"

Her father, Phichaya, asked immediately after stepping through the door, seeking out his beloved daughter.

"She's playing a game, but around this time, she should be coming down for dinner,"

Moddang replied, accepting the souvenirs Chang's father had brought back with a polite wai.

"Dad!"

Chang called out bluntly as she descended the stairs, looking puzzled by the number of items being carried into the house. She wondered what her father could have bought to require so many trips. Phichaya quickly turned and rushed over to her, immediately scanning her from head to toe.

"What are you doing, Dad?"

Chang asked, pushing him away as he tried to hug her.

"Oh, come on, Chang. I was away for five whole days. Didn't you miss me? I was so lonely and missed you terribly. Come here and let me hug you to make up for it,"

Phichaya responded with disappointed face, spreading his arms wide, expecting his beloved daughter to jump into them.

"We're both adults now, Dad. Besides, how could you be lonely? You had watermelon to eat for all five days!"

Chang pouted, making her father pause, momentarily speechless. Inwardly, he marveled at how sharp his daughter was becoming, but he quickly brushed it off.

"Watermelon is just fruit—it only helped me miss Thailand a little less, my dear. Oh, by the way, I bought some ostrich meat and kangaroo meat for you to try. I've already given the cooking instructions to Aunt Im,"

Phichaya said, taking the opportunity to wrap his arm around Chang's shoulder as they walked into the kitchen together. Chang did not brush off his hand.

As the two entered the kitchen, the fragrant aroma of food being cooked on the stove by Aunt Im filled the air, causing both their stomachs to rumble simultaneously. They sat down to wait for the main course, while Moddang served them shrimp dumplings, another of Aunt Im's specialties.

"So, how's that matter going, Dad?"

Chang asked, stuffing two dumplings into her mouth.

"Which matter?"

Phichaya replied, doing the same with his own dumplings.

"The Infinity Group's van. The one they were going to use to kidnap me. Are those people connected to your organization?"

Chang asked. She knew her father well—despite his calm demeanor, he was surely already investigating the situation.

"It's still unclear, but there's a likely connection. Even though I'm the CEO and hold 60% of the shares in Infinity Group, there's a smaller faction within the company trying to undermine me, particularly certain... I shouldn't say more,"

Phichaya whispered the last part, ensuring only Chang could hear.

"After disappearing for years, returning now must mean they've gained some confidence—either they aren't desperate, or they've found new allies,"

Chang remarked, narrowing her eyes as she thought it over, watching Aunt Im and Moddang serve them more dishes.

"Exactly. I'm focusing on those two possibilities, but we can't rule out other scenarios. This could also be outsiders trying to stir up conflict within the organization,"

Phichaya said thoughtfully.

"Are you going to investigate the suspicious personnel within the company?"

Chang asked while scooping hot tom yum goong into her bowl.

"Of course, but I can't do it openly. Otherwise, it might cause real division within the organization. Don't worry, though. I've already assigned skilled bodyguards to watch your every move!"

Phichaya reassured his daughter, hoping to give her peace of mind that she would not face another incident like yesterday.

"I'm not worried about something like that happening again, Dad. I just don't like having someone follow me everywhere I go. Get this sorted out quickly, okay? Oh! The police have also scheduled an interview with Moddang and me in two days,"

Chang replied, sounding annoyed. She quickly finished her meal and headed back upstairs to continue playing her game, knowing that online game time did not pause like offline games.

"My daughter's become addicted to gaming..."

Phichaya grumbled, feeling a bit down as he watched his daughter leave the dining room so quickly.

"It's a good thing, Mr. Phich. At least she won't have to leave the house and face any more dangerous situations. Plus, she won't be bored cooped up at home either."

Aunt Im comforted him with a warm smile. Phichaya shrugged and continued eating alone, feeling a little lonely.

.....

Kimhant logged into the game before Chang Long and sat waiting, with Cat-Faced Angel keeping him company. She asked why Chang Long did not use her resurrection potion on Kitsune, even though she already had it, and instead chose to extend the resurrection time with the Ice Coffin. Kimhant, not knowing the full details, could only give a vague response.

"I'm not sure, but Kitsune does have the status of a Sacred Beast, even though he's not pure-blooded like Hulu. Maybe that's why a standard resurrection wouldn't work on him,"

Kimhant answered. Cat-Faced Angel's eyes widened at his response, wondering if Chang Long could ever have a regular pet.

"But what does that have to do with Chang Long not using the resurrection potion?"

Cat-Faced Angel asked, still confused about what did the Sacred Beast status had to do with Chang Long not resurrecting Kitsune.

"Hmm, I remember we asked about pet-sealing accessories in Suvarn City's pet supply store. The shopkeeper said that Kitsune's status could potentially make him pure-blooded like Hulu, but it would require his death and... if I remember correctly, it involves bathing his body in water from the Sacred Water Pond,"

Kimhant explained.

"Really? So, anyone could turn their pet into a Sacred Beast!"

Cat-Faced Angel asked excitedly, thinking about how much stronger her otter family could become if they were all Sacred Beasts.

"I'm not sure. No one knows if Kitsune was born a Sacred Beast or became one later. And no one really knows the method except for master—uh, I mean, Miss Chang Long,"

Kimhant clarified.

"Do you think Chang Long would be mad if I asked her about this?"

Cat-Faced Angel asked. She wanted to upgrade her pets too, and if there was a way to do it, she figured it was worth taking the risk.

"I doubt she would be mad. You're friends with her, right? But whether she answers or not is another matter,"

Kimhant replied with a shrug, knowing that while Chang Long could be moody, she was also kind-hearted.

As the two were chatting, Chang Long came online. Her plan was to return to Alexandria to catch a ship back to the Starting Island. If the weather cooperated, it would take about three days to reach the island. She called Kimhant and Oliang, informing them of her destination. She was not waiting for everyone to gather; she simply told them they could join her if they made it in time, but if not, they could meet at the Starting Island.

This sudden move made the group of men scramble to get to Alexandria. Destiny, his friends, and Cat-Faced Angel decided to tag along as well, eager to witness how Chang Long would resurrect her pet. The fact that she had a resurrection potion but chose not to use it yet, instead opting to return to the Starting Island, hinted that it might be related to Kitsune's revival.

To avoid being challenged by beasts along the way, Chang Long flew, not wanting to waste even a second. She feared there might be more involved in reviving Kitsune than just using the Sacred Water Pond's water and the resurrection potion, and if that were the case, time might run out.

Siegfried's group, consisting of high-level players, did not face much trouble during their journey either. Though they were not as fast as speed-focused players, their pace was steady. Beasts along the route could not hold them back for more than five minutes, as they unleashed their skills without hesitation, not caring about conserving their mana crystals. The sole reason for their urgency was to catch up with Chang Long before she boarded the ship.
