This Life, I Will Be the Protagonist

Chapter 1041: 1041 Divine Game: Player Relic 44

Golden butterflies of light spun around her as Rita lifted the gun to her own head again.

Bang.

This time, it finally clicked empty.

All her states rolled back to what they were one hundred and twenty seconds earlier. Every buff she had lost returned at once.

Almost simultaneously, a barrage of skills swallowed her whole. Elemental blasts, weapon strikes, and the tree shadows of Maple Syrup's Faded Homeland smashed together in a single violent surge.

Explosions burst across the sand. Rita pushed through them unscathed, gripping her dagger as she cut through the swirling dust and dashed toward MarmangCrab and the little seahorse.

Maple Syrup narrowed her eyes. Something about this felt irritatingly wrong. She accelerated.

Rita ignored her. Maple Syrup had never been on her list. It wasn't because their history was too messy, nor because Maple Burn's fallen wings were a thorn in Maple Syrup's heart.

The real reason was simple: Maple Syrup's obsession was restoring Forest Sea, and the final fragment was inside BS.

If Maple Syrup joined BS… Rita didn't even want to imagine the result. BS would probably shatter within five minutes of her arrival.

Was Pine Bloom a risk too? Of course.

But Pine Bloom's obsession with Forest Sea was nothing compared to Maple Syrup's, and when Pine Bloom died, Whale Falls in the Wind had dropped straight into Rita's hands. That relic was sitting quietly inside her capsule machine.

Pine Bloom's last attempt at self-destruction was meant to protect that relic, but she failed.

One glance told Rita the relic did not fit her at all. It would probably run away the moment she touched it, so whatever sadness she should have felt vanished immediately.

As for Mistblade… she would need another method.

Lost in thought, she burst into the center of the battle.

The moment Rita entered, every player—while still attacking each other—instinctively tried to strip away her buffs. Killing BS Rita meant recruiting her, plus claiming three divine relics. There was no better prize on the battlefield.

MarmangCrab was fully transformed now, as massive as TingoJE, the two of them taking up nearly the whole center. The little seahorse hovered beside the crab like a tiny magical cannon, spitting spells at everyone.

The strange part? No matter how many times the seahorse blasted them, the players kept targeting the tanky MarmangCrab instead of the far squishier DPS. Completely unnatural.

The moment Rita got close, the little seahorse stopped firing spells. It darted toward her and clung to her shoulder, trembling with excitement.

"For you, I had Crab dig up this skill for me. I waited so long for this day."

Before Rita could react, its mouth began to glow—and then it shrieked at the top of its lungs:

"BS Rita dies! BS Rita dies! BS Rita dies!"

Rita stared in dead silence.

Her grip tightened. The dagger immediately drove toward MarmangCrab.

Annoying as the seahorse was, the root of this disaster was clearly MarmangCrab.

But shouldn't she kill the seahorse first? That was the real DPS. As she pieced together the attack patterns, the truth snapped into place.

The skill she had traded with the seahorse—That Pot Is Yours, Not Mine—had clearly lodged itself deep into MarmangCrab's soul.

Someone had removed The Wind Doesn't Speak from her. This battlefield was absolute chaos. Every player was facing at least three attackers at once.

Rita, Lightchaser's sprite, B80, Y128, and Nivalis surrounded MarmangCrab. Rita occasionally clashed with the pursuing Maple Syrup, who still stripped away her shadow's loyalty with every hit. Unchanged Fate had only two minutes left.

She tucked Cat's Ideal back into the capsule machine.

Countless strategies flashed through her mind. With attacks coming nonstop, she had no opening to activate Mystic Force, let alone manipulate her health enough to cast Moment of Reversal safely.

One mistake and she would be dead.

Not even hiding in the shadow realm would work with Maple Syrup as her counter.

Announcements rang overhead.

Remaining Divine Game Players: 29

Player Tingo JE has killed Player Tiger Ear Fire Shadow…

Player Lania Kaia Mute has killed Player Tiger Ear Level Tone…

Two notifications in a row.

Everyone who knew Tiger EarQuex fell silent.

Tiger Ear had finally been cursed to death.

Rita made a mental note to stay far away from Tiger EarQuex from now on.

When the glow faded from the seahorse's mouth, when it finally shut up, Rita released Unchanged Fate.

She hurled herself against MarmangCrab's claw to make sure she took a hit, and Wrathful Moon unfurled behind her. While casting Nebula Bubble, she activated another skill on herself.

Temporary Stat Reset.

Every point of Constitution flowed into Agility, leaving her with only one point of Constitution.

Then she cast Moment of Reversal, swapping her Constitution with MarmangCrab's.

"Are you serious?!" were the crab's final words.

Lightchaser's sprite, B80, Y128, and Nivalis had been hammering nonstop at her command. Even when their damage barely reached single digits, they never stopped.

They were waiting for this exact moment.

And they secured the last hit for BS Rita.

Player BS Rita has killed Player MarmangCrab. MarmangCrab will join BS and be renamed BS Crab.

MarmangCrab has been identified as the sole official Divine Game player of the Skycrab race. The Skycrab race will be forcibly transferred to BS.

With her objectives completed and every major skill on cooldown, Rita no longer cared about the fight. One step and she was already running.

If she could survive and take first place, why wouldn't she? Soul Catcher's Pay Raise was worth saving for the next Divine Game.

Retreat!

Nivalis and B80 followed her with practiced ease. Somehow their fleeing silhouettes still looked heroic.

The fierce, earth-shaking battle that had just taken place felt like a fever dream.

Maple Syrup and every player in sight: …

The hunters of Isolated Isle: …

Rita sprinted with everything she had, sparing a glance back.

She frowned at Y128 and waved. "Run!"

Then she called out without a hint of shame, "Lightchaser, stay and pick up kills! Please! Do it for me!"

Y128 stumbled out an "Okay" and bolted after her.

Lightchaser slowly turned toward her own sprite. Through clenched teeth, she said, "Follow her. And strangle her."

The Lightchaser sprite stared blankly.

Why don't you do it yourself?
