The Forsaken's Revenge

Chapter 330: It's all for your own good!

"It's all that damned man's fault! Why did he have to arrange for you to protect some Miss Feng?"

"If it weren't for him, you never would have ended up like this!"

"Anyway, I'm not done with him over this!" Wei Zixuan touched Xu Da's face, her voice filled with heartfelt distress.

"Cousin..."

"This has nothing to do with my brother-in-law," Xu Da said, his voice weak.

"The mission was actually over. I was the one who wanted to keep protecting her."

"I... I like..."

As he finished, a rare, deep embarrassment washed over him.

"What did you just say?"

"You like Miss Feng?" Wei Zixuan was taken aback, her face a mask of confusion.

"You ended up like this because of her, so why do you still like her?"

"What kind of love potion did you and your brother-in-law drink? Why are you both so taken with a woman like that?"

Wei Zixuan felt a surge of anger and couldn't help but grind her teeth. She truly couldn't understand what was so special about Feng Yueyue to make both her cousin and her husband so fond of her.

"Cousin..."

"You're wronging my brother-in-law. He's never done anything to let you down. Miss Feng confessed to him once, but he rejected her without a second thought," Xu Da said with a faint smile.

"Do you know... how my brother-in-law rejected her?"

As he spoke, he deliberately put on an extremely serious expression, perfectly mimicking Chen Zheng's demeanor at the time.

"'I... love my wife very much!'"

"'When you truly love someone, you don't need them to do anything special for you. And I would never abandon her just because a better option came along!'"

After he finished, he chuckled. "Pretty impactful, right?"

But the exaggerated smile pulled at his wound, and his face immediately contorted in pain.

"Serves you right..."

"That's what you get for fooling around with me!" Wei Zixuan rolled her eyes, then fell silent for a moment before asking again.

"Is that... Is that really what your brother-in-law said at the time?"

"Cousin, would I lie to you?"

"Your misunderstanding of my brother-in-law runs too deep. He rejected Feng Yueyue without hesitation, so you can imagine how he'd treat any other women."

"I can see it clearly. You're the only one in his heart," Xu Da said with absolute confidence.

At this, he seemed to recall something else and sighed heavily. "Do you remember what happened on the roof of the Yuan Corporation building?"

"The situation was critical. My brother-in-law only said those things to provoke you because he was trying to buy me precious time."

"When the bomb finally exploded, he did everything he could, even risking his own life, to shield us. He was the one who ended up seriously injured!"

"He was protecting you with his life!" Seizing the opportunity, Xu Da explained everything that had happened back then.

"You're saying..."

"He... he was injured back then?" Wei Zixuan felt her heart tremble uncontrollably.

In her mind, Chen Zheng seemed invincible. How could he have been injured so easily?

"Cousin, every word I'm saying is true. Even now, my brother-in-law still coughs up blood sometimes..."

"Xu Da, you just woke up and you're already spouting nonsense to your cousin?" Just then, Chen Zheng walked in from outside, carrying a bag of fruit.

"Your head must have been injured pretty badly..."

As he spoke, he subtly shook his head, signaling for Xu Da to stop. He did this because he didn't want Wei Zixuan to keep worrying.

"Brother-in-law..." Xu Da chuckled sheepishly.

"Enough. You need to rest and heal quietly, so stop with these ridiculous jokes," Wei Zixuan huffed, lightly patting Xu Da. She then turned her head toward Chen Zheng. "Come outside with me."

As Wei Zixuan turned her back, Xu Da shot Chen Zheng a mischievous, encouraging gesture.

Chen Zheng, however, could only sigh helplessly as he followed Wei Zixuan out of the hospital room.

"Your injuries..." The moment they stepped outside, Wei Zixuan couldn't stop herself from asking.

Although her expression remained stern, her concern was palpable.

Chen Zheng immediately reached out and took her hand. "As long as you're not angry with me, my injuries will heal in no time!"

"Get away from me..."

"Don't even think about taking advantage of the situation!" Wei Zixuan's face flushed slightly as she quickly pulled her hand back.

"Don't think I'll forgive you just because you somehow bribed Xu Da to say all those things. There's still a lot you haven't explained to me," Wei Zixuan huffed.

"Are you still jealous of those other women?" Chen Zheng asked, looking somewhat puzzled.

"You don't actually believe the problem between us is because of those women, do you?" Wei Zixuan let out a soft, self-deprecating laugh.

"Chen Zheng..."

"I'm just an ordinary woman who wants a stable marriage. You are my husband, that's true, but a lot of the time, you make me feel like I'm with a complete stranger."

"You told me from the very beginning that you were a veteran, but all sorts of dangerous things are always happening around you!"

"And you go to such lengths to hide things from me, never telling me the whole truth!"

As she spoke, Wei Zixuan grew more agitated, and her expression quickly became downcast.

The most important thing for a couple is mutual honesty. There shouldn't be any secrets. That's the only way a relationship can last.

Yet she knew next to nothing about her husband. She was clueless about what tomorrow might bring or what dangers they might face. This left her feeling helpless and anxious, and over time, it completely eroded her sense of security.

In Wei Zixuan's view, this was the crux of a marriage, and it was precisely what they were missing.

If they were truly going to make it, they needed to open their hearts and talk honestly.

Chen Zheng had to be the one to take the initiative, but he seemed to have no intention of ever revealing his past.

This deeply upset her. She felt that Chen Zheng didn't truly have her in his heart, which was why he wouldn't hesitate to act this way.

This was the fundamental difference in how men and women saw things. In truth, it's often the small details that matter most.

Hearing all this, Chen Zheng finally understood. So these were the things his wife was concerned about.

His body trembled slightly as he immediately pulled Zi Xuan into his arms, holding her tight.

"I didn't tell you so many things because I was afraid you'd worry, and because I needed to protect you," Chen Zheng sighed deeply.
