The Forsaken's Revenge

Chapter 416: Taking Action Personally

"Since you are here to treat my mother, why don't you do it yourselves?"

Hearing this, one of the doctors smiled. "Our main purpose this time is to help this young lady find an antidote, so it isn't convenient for us to intervene in the old woman's condition."

"But the medicinal ingredients we brought were all purchased from outside the city, and we don't have much left!"

"Don't worry about that." One of the doctors shook his head slightly. "We've prepared three hundred doses this time, so it's more than enough for the old woman."

At these words, Cui Lan's eyes brightened.

"That's wonderful!"

"I'll write a prescription for you right away. After taking it, the old woman will recover."

"Thank you!" Cui Lan quickly bowed to the doctors.

Seeing this, the doctors returned the gesture.

"Miss, there's no need for such formalities."

"Miss, please wait a moment."

"Alright."

A short while later, the doctors departed.

Cui Lan sat on the edge of the bed, carefully observing the old woman's complexion. After a moment, the corners of her lips curled into a cold smile. Her eyes flickered with an icy glint as she murmured, "Old witch, even if I don't kill you, I will surely tear you to pieces!"

After saying this, Cui Lan quickly left the room and instructed the servants to bring some hot food.

「That night.」

The old woman woke up.

"Mother... Mother..." Seeing her awake, Cui Yu was overwhelmed with emotion. She quickly grasped the old woman's hand, "Mother..."

The old woman looked at Cui Yu, a trace of relief on her withered face. She whispered softly, "Silly child, I'm so glad you're alright."

Cui Yu shook her head. "I'm fine, Mother, but why did you suddenly faint?"

"It's my fault. I'm to blame," the old lady said, looking at Cui Yu with guilt. "It's all my fault. I've made you suffer."

"Mother, don't say that. It's my fault!" Cui Yu quickly lowered her head. "If it weren't for me, you wouldn't have met with this disaster!"

"Mother..."

Witnessing this scene, a pang of guilt struck Cui Lan. Although she hated the old woman, she was, after all, her grandmother. Now, her grandmother was gravely injured because of her. How could this not move her? As she thought this, Cui Lan's eyes brimmed with tears.

"Silly girl, why are you crying? I'm fine," the old woman said, patting Cui Yu's shoulder before resting her head on her lap.

"Mother, I'm so sorry." Cui Yu's heart ached with regret and self-reproach.

"Mother, I was so useless! I'm the reason you were injured!"

Seeing Cui Yu's remorseful expression, the old woman sighed gently and comforted her, "Don't blame yourself. I know you meant well, and I don't blame you."

As she spoke, a deep sense of self-reproach surfaced in the old woman's eyes. Ever since Cui Yun died, she had lived every day in guilt and regret. She was the main culprit. She was the one who had harmed Cui Yun, the one who had driven her into a dead end. If she hadn't forced Cui Yun to marry into the Li Family, Cui Yun would never have died. For that reason, the old woman couldn't bring herself to blame Cui Lan.

The old woman's tolerance and magnanimity only made Cui Yu feel more ashamed.

"Mother, you don't blame me! I'm so happy!"

"You really are a silly child." The old woman stroked Cui Yu's head and then looked around. "By the way, Cui Yu, where is your father? Why didn't he come with you?"

Upon hearing this, a melancholic expression appeared on Cui Yu's face. "Mother, I have been unfilial. I couldn't find Father."

Upon hearing Cui Yu's words, the old lady sighed. "Alas... In this matter, it is I who have let your father down... It is I who have let him down..."

「Elsewhere.」

Chen Zheng furrowed his brow, pondering the matter at hand. This situation had truly stumped him. To treat the old woman, he first had to get his hands on the medicinal ingredients! With that, his gaze immediately shifted toward Cui Yu.

"Young Master..." Cui Lan hurriedly stepped forward. "Young Master, do you have any way to help the old woman?"

"I don't have a solution either. We can only rely on fate," Chen Zheng said, his face etched with worry.

Hearing his words, Cui Yu's brows furrowed.

"Young Master, this old servant thinks you should help the old woman!" Cui Yu clenched her teeth and knelt. "The old woman is getting on in years. In her current condition, I fear she'll be in danger if she isn't treated promptly. Please, I beg you!"

Seeing Cui Yu like this, Chen Zheng's heart softened. He sighed. "Fine. This time, this young master will go all out! No matter the cost, I will cure the old woman's injuries!"

"Thank you, Young Master!" Tears welled up in Cui Yu's eyes.

"Sigh, you two... How did you end up like this again?"

Just then, an aged voice rang out from inside the room. Hearing it, Cui Yu and Chen Zheng quickly looked up. An old man dressed in a cyan robe was slowly walking in.

"Father!"

"Uncle!"

Cui Yu and Cui Lan cried out, their eyes turning red.

The old man nodded. "Alright, hurry and pack. We set out tomorrow morning."

"Father, are we leaving tomorrow?" Cui Yu asked in surprise.

The old woman was also slightly startled. "Is it such a rush?"

"Yes." The old man nodded. "We can't delay this matter, or it could lead to trouble. You wouldn't want news of your illness getting out, would you?"

The old woman hesitated for a moment before finally nodding. "Alright then, we'll listen to you."

With that, she turned to look at Cui Yu and then at the old man. The old woman slowly closed her eyes, seemingly composing herself. Cui Yu also remained silent, standing quietly by the bed.

A moment later, the old woman's eyes snapped open. "We'll set out early tomorrow morning. But... what about those two martial brothers of yours? What will we do with them?"

A hint of hesitation flickered in Cui Yu's eyes but quickly vanished, replaced by determination. "They have already betrayed us. Keeping them around serves no purpose."

"Won't doing that put their lives in danger?"

"Since they've already betrayed us, we have no obligation to honor old ties."

「The next morning.」

Chen Zheng rose especially early. He planned to use the next few days to gather herbs, refine some pills, and then travel to the southern border to see if he could purchase more medicinal plants there. After getting up, he strolled around the courtyard.

Just then, the old woman awoke.

Seeing this, Chen Zheng hurried to her bedside, his voice full of concern. "Madam, are you awake?"

"Yes." The old woman nodded indifferently and glanced at him. "What is it? Are you going somewhere?"

Hearing this, Chen Zheng was startled for a moment, then quickly explained, "To be honest, I was planning to go out and purchase some medicinal herbs."

"Oh, are you planning to go to the south of the city?" the old woman asked.

"Yes," Chen Zheng nodded.

"Then you should go quickly. Remember to gather plenty!" the old woman said with a smile.
