There was not one pause before the abomination attacked, its six hands extended like tendrils, ripping through the air and headed for them. Raze grinned, he kicked the ground, leaping high and swinging down at the same time.
BAM!
He slammed three hands down all at the same time, then spun midair and chucked his bat at full speed. It ripped through the air like a meteor and slammed right into the head of the abomination, knocking it back.
The opening had been created, and now for the others to take hold of it. Ella spread out her hands and multiple flame arrows formed, but she didn't stop there; she combined all of them to create one massive flame arrow.
Emily cast a light sword spell, creating a sword of light above her. The both of them attacked at the same time, flame arrow and light sword tearing through the air.
BOOOM!
The abomination took a nasty hit right in the chest, the attacks exploding its chest into mush, but it wasn't dead. That was when Gavin took the lead, rushing forward with his sword by his side. He leaped into the air and slashed down.
But mid-slash, the abomination looked up, and for a moment, Gavin could swear he saw the person that the abomination was before—a face filled with pain and suffering. He hesitated, and the abomination attacked, its hand moving to stab through him.
Clang!
A bat collided with the hand. Raze grabbed Gavin midair after teleporting there and then teleported away, throwing Gavin at a tree the moment they landed.
"What the hell are you doing?" Raze barked. Gavin looked up, realizing that he had blanked out and almost died.
"I saw the person inside the abomination," Gavin said.
Raze's face twisted in anger. "Don't be stupid. We are here to kill the abomination, not rescue it. Their souls are suffering in that state; we must put them down," Raze said and turned around.
"How can you speak of killing people so easily?" Gavin roared. Raze turned his head to look at Gavin. "They aren't people anymore, just tools for the demonic beasts, beings that will be used to kill. If anything, I'm sure you of all people know that," Raze said and then dashed forward.
Ella and Emily kept attacking the abomination, spamming spells that refused to let it move forward, but because they had to be fast, they couldn't use strong spells.
Raze got back to the scene. As he rushed forward, he looked at both of them and yelled, "Start casting your strongest spells, I'll hold it off."
He looked at the abomination. "Let's see how you like this." His hands stretched out, he released a powerful wave of flames that slammed into the abomination. It let out a horrendous screech and backed away as the flames burned through it.
He lunged forward, channeling mana into the bat. Flames exploded around the bat and then compressed down. He swung hard and slammed into the head of the abomination, taking half of it in that swing, then he used the body to propel himself into the air and into a flip, and in that moment, both girls attacked.
Ella cast a lightning high-level rank two spell, Lightning Serpent, creating a coiling snake of lightning, and Emily cast a powerful beam of light. Both slammed into the abomination and completely obliterated its insides.
It looked like the fight was over, but then while still in the air, Raze spotted that the core was not shattered—exposed, yes, but not shattered. He needed to take it down fast, but the abomination seemed to have become wary of Raze and decided to attack, forcing itself to regenerate its limbs and attack Raze midair, forcing Raze to focus on blocking the attacks while it tried to heal its guts and cover the core.
WHOOOSH!
Sadly for it, a massive blue flame arc ripped through the air and split through the core with ease, killing the abomination instantly. Raze landed on the ground and looked to his side, where he saw Gavin standing after making that attack.
"It's dead," Emily said. They all looked at the body on the ground, a mix of emotions.
"Are we really doing the right thing?" Ella asked.
"It's not about being right or wrong," Emily said. "I was only five when I witnessed a town destroyed by abominations and infected monsters. It's about survival," she said.
"I agree," Raze said, and then began walking, not saying anything more. They all walked past the dead abomination and headed deeper into the forest.
'I need to find a way to capture one abomination on my own. If I don't get one, I can't experiment and see how to heal them,' Raze thought as they walked off.
Their movement easily spanned three days inside the forest, and by this time, six abominations had died to their hands. It got easier to kill after every one, but the weight never got lighter, knowing that they were killing people who were once human weighed heavily on them.
But it was what it took to become someone strong; they had to wade through the hard parts of it, lift their heads, and ensure they kept moving.
Finally, they arrived at a town. Their rations were already getting low, so this town couldn't have come at a better time. But as they arrived at the gates of the town, they noticed some men in plain armor and swords at their waist.
Two stood at the gates, one relaxed against the wall and the other seated on a stone. When they noticed the four approaching, they all immediately got up and pulled their swords.
"Stand back and identify yourselves," one man barked. The group was exhausted and tired at this point, so anything to get some rest.
They could easily ask for Emily to use her name, but a Duke's name here would cause a major disturbance, so they opted for the second best—Raze.
"My name is Raze Grimhold."
