The old ogre let out a grunt. If all Raze knew was something from a small write-up, then there was no point talking about it with him. He turned to leave.
"It's called a katana," Raze said casually, and immediately it caused the ogre to stop. He turned around to look at Raze.
Raze pointed at the sword. "It's called a katana, and it's specialized for slashing, as you can tell from the curve of the blade." He went on to elaborate.
The ogre's eyes widened. He stepped forward and then unsheathed the sword. "This sword was handed to me by a stranger that I met many years ago. He said it was a treasure and that I should cherish it, and one day I would understand the real worth behind it."
As Aren heard what he said, he was shocked. He looked at the sword and then at the old ogre. "Please, what's the name of the person that gave it to you? What does he look like? Where was he from?" He spammed questions immediately.
Someone that made a katana, he wanted to know that person. Could it be that they just made their own swords like that as well, or was it someone that wasn't from here who handed it to him?
'Another transmigrator beside me? Could it be?' Aren wondered.
"I do not know who the man was, nor can I recall what he looked like. All I recall was the mysterious figure handing it to me, and ever since then, I have trained myself as best as I can with the sword, for the past twenty years.
"Despite that, I can't help but feel that the way I use it isn't optimal at all, and so I have been searching for whatever clue I could get. That's why when I saw your gaze shift to the sword, I was immediately curious," the old ogre explained.
Raze listened to him carefully. He let out a deep groan. "I see," he muttered under his breath. He glanced at the sword again, and that was when he noticed some markings on the blade.
"Wait, what's that?" he asked, pointing at the mark. The old ogre lifted the sword and checked what it was, and there he saw the mark.
"Oh, it's a mark that has been there since I got it. I don't know what it stands for, but hopefully, I'll find out one day," he said.
'That's definitely Japanese,' Aren thought. He might not know how to read Japanese, but from the first glance, he could tell that it was definitely something written in Japanese.
'If that's Japanese, then this might be from someone that came to this world as well,' he concluded in his mind. He was shocked by this discovery, finding out that there was someone else who was from Earth as well, another transmigrator like him.
'I want to learn as much as possible about this person, and this sword is the only way.'
"How about this, I'll help you research this sword. I have access to certain information that most people don't have, and I'll look into it, and whatever I find, I'll tell you about it," Raze said.
The old ogre's eyes lit up the moment he heard that. "Really?" he asked.
"Yes, but can I have it for a few seconds? I want to take a closer look at it, and if possible, the scabbard as well," Raze said.
The ogre was pretty reluctant to hand over his sword, but it wasn't like Raze could run with it, so he handed the sword over first. Raze inspected the blade closely. There were write-ups on the front and on the back of the blade.
Using his impeccable memory, he remembered all of them, and then went on to use God's Eyes to analyze the blade closely. The blade structure seemed similar to what you would expect, several layers of highly compressed metal, but that wasn't all.
He noticed a pattern of pseudo magic veins, which would allow for a very good flow of magic through the blade. That alone was stunning, as this made the sword a very high-level magical tool.
But what caught his attention finally was a specific Japanese character that was somehow embedded right at the center of it. Raze immediately placed it in his memory as well. That was all for the blade, nothing else, so he handed the sword back and took the scabbard.
It was a black scabbard with golden accents. The tips of the scabbard on either end were gold and also engraved like a dragon. But what caught Raze's attention was the write-up on the side, still Japanese, so he memorized it as well before using God's Eye. Once he did, he realized there was a write-up inside as well, so he did the same.
That was all that was special about the scabbard, so he handed it over to the ogre. The ogre took his scabbard back and sheathed his sword before securing it at his waist and looking at Raze. "So what did you find?" he asked.
"A few write-ups. I'll find the meaning and tell you soon," Raze said. "Oh, also, another thing. Can you show me how you use the sword, please?"
The ogre was a bit confused at the request, but nonetheless, he obliged. He took a few steps back and unsheathed the sword, gripped it, and immediately, the first thing that Raze noticed was the fact that he was holding it like a longsword.
The ogre had a wide stance. He lifted the sword up and hacked down with a lot of power. The sword whistled through the air, a blast of wind coming from it and causing debris to fly in all directions, instantly impressing some of the ogres that watched. They all cheered for him. After all, he was the best with the sword in the village.
"That was bad," Raze said with a face that looked like he had stepped on shit.
