Chapter 84: Black Lightning

Raze ignored the fact that he could suffer heavy damage from the lightning whipping around. His hands were wrapped around her, eyes shut, praying in his heart that he wouldn't get hit. He didn't know which god did it, but they definitely answered his prayer. He managed to tackle her to the ground; she hit hard, and the spell instantly stopped. Her eyes closed, and she fell unconscious.

Raze thought he was in the clear and had salvaged the situation, but her body suddenly discharged a massive bolt of residual lightning, all of it hitting him in that moment. He was thrown back, high into the air. As he moved, his vision got blurry, and he lost control of his arms, his legs, his entire body.

He slammed into a wall so hard that his head snapped back and hit it, knocking him out instantly. His body hit the ground with a thud.

"Fuck!" Gavin cursed, rushing over to Raze. He could tell that Raze was the one who had taken the biggest blow out of the two, but before he could get to him, he saw a long, slender limb whipping his way. He blocked, but the collision knocked him back. He wasn't fully prepared and was thrown into a wall, hitting hard and falling to the ground.

He looked up. The abomination wasn't dead — half of its body was gone, obliterated, yet it was still alive and enraged.

"Why won't you just die?" Gavin said. He struggled back to his feet and was about to rush in to finish it, but then he felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned around.

Behind him stood a woman of impossible beauty — black hair that shined like it had been oiled with the most expensive of oils, pale skin that contrasted her hair. She was clad in armor so pristine it could make a man cry, with runes drawn into it perfectly. Silver and black combined beautifully into one armor.

On her hip was a sword, her left hand resting calmly on it. Behind her were five men, each in armor, standing gallant and looking untouchable.

She looked at Gavin. "Stand back, kid," she said before stepping forward and pulling her sword in one swift motion. Its stainless blade gleamed under the sunlight, the runes that covered it glowing in a beautifully dark purple color.

"Dark lightning of the abyss, heed me," she said before lunging forward. Black lightning erupted around the blade, striking the ground as she moved. She covered the distance in an instant. The abomination tried to take her down, attacking with its elongated arms, but before it could even touch her, it was evaporated.

She leaped into the air, sword held overhead; she looked like the descent of a god coming to bring judgment. Gavin watched in awe, eyes wide open, as she showed her power. It wasn't aggressive, it wasn't forceful — it was commanding. It forced the respect of those who saw it without needing to show too much.

The sword cut down into the abomination, splitting what was left in half. Bolts of lightning shot through every part of its body, exploding it into paste. The core of the abomination was split in two, and it was finally defeated.

She landed on the floor lightly and sheathed her sword in a perfect flow, her hair flowing despite there being no wind. She turned around and looked at Gavin, her dark eyes seeming to stare right into his soul.

'Is this what true power looks like?' he wondered. He had seen Ken in action and could say that Ken was an extremely powerful fighter, and his talent with the sword was great. But when he looked at this woman, he didn't see someone wielding a sword — he saw someone who had become the sword. She fused magic and swordsmanship so perfectly that it resembled an art.

The sound of birds chirping announced a new day. As the sun rose, its light flooded through the window beautifully. Raze's eyes twitched as he slowly came awake; the smell of warm herbal tea reached his nose.

His eyes shot open to a ceiling made of well-cut beams, highly polished and perfectly placed. His body was hugged by a warm blanket, and his head rested softly on a pillow.

"You've finally come alive," a voice reached his ears, and he instantly turned his head to see who it was. Seated on a comfortable couch, dressed in pristine mage robes and holding a cup of tea in her hands, was Lady Green.

"Lady Green," Raze muttered, shocked to see her face.

"Lady Green? I asked you to call me Rose," she said, taking a sip of her tea. "This is why I can't have friends. Everyone ends up turning it into a 'respect your senior' situation.

Tsk, don't use my family name. Call me Rose." She took another sip, then placed the cup down on the table. She leaned back into the chair and placed her hands on her lap.

"So, how do you feel?" she asked.

"Uhm… confused. How did I get here, where am I, and what happened to the abomination?" Raze asked.

"Calm your horses, you just woke up. You'll get all the answers. As for where this is, it's a special room in the teachers' lounge of the academy," she said, then got up and walked closer to the bed.

"I was informed of everything that happened at the gutters yesterday. It was really shocking to hear — a human abomination within the city. If word got out and spread, it would lead to an uprising. People would begin to question a lot of things.

Sigh… I hate when situations like that arise. Struggling to suppress it, fight it, and ensure we keep the peace," she said, glancing at the window. "But let's leave that aside. How is your body feeling? You took some really nasty hits from what I could tell. The fact that you've woken up already is really shocking."
