Stepping out of the inn, Raze headed back to the academy. He hadn't been there in a week, and he was certain that classes had already started, but he wasn't bothered.
When he arrived at the gates of the academy, the guard there stopped him.
"Hey, what do you want?" the guard barked, clad in light armor with a short sword on his waist.
"I'm a student, a first-year student," Raze said.
"Yeah, right, and somehow you aren't inside the academy," the guard said.
"Tsk, I'm not ready for this. Just head in and verify who I am from the headmistress," Raze said.
"Hahaha, you really think something like that could work? Get out of here, kid, before I force you," the guard barked.
"Sigh, leaving wasn't this hectic," Raze muttered. He looked at the guard with a frown on his face. "You really are wasting my time," Raze said, then looked into the academy. He saw a location far off from the guard and close to the main building.
Without another word, he teleported and appeared inside the school, near the main building. The guard was shocked and scared when Raze vanished; he was certain someone had been there just moments ago.
Raze looked at the guard, who was searching around in panic and confusion, and just walked into the building without a care.
Inside, he headed straight for the office of the headmistress. Much to his dismay, there was a secretary today, a small, middle-aged woman with brown hair tied in a bun and a face that said she didn't want to see anyone at all.
'How can the secretary be looking like this? Sigh, everything wants to make things hard for me today.'
The woman noticed his presence. She scanned him from top to bottom in an instant. "What do you want?" she asked in a flat tone. Her voice sounded like metal scraping against the floor.
"Is the headmistress in?" he asked.
"Yes, she is. But you can't see her if you aren't on the list of visitors today. Write your name down and try again in two days," she said, not even bothering to look at Raze.
'Oh hell no,' Raze thought. He looked at the door to Lady Rose's office and immediately called out, "Lady Rose, it's Raze! I came to see you."
"What the hell are you doing?" the woman barked, rising to her feet. She rushed out from behind the table, but before she could take a few steps, the door to the office opened.
"Don't worry, Matilda. He is my guest," Lady Rose spoke. The woman turned to see her, then looked at Raze with a cold stare before returning to her seat.
Raze didn't care; he followed Lady Rose into her office. It had that same smell of incense that made one relax and a lingering scent of tea.
She walked to her chair and sat down, leaning back to relax. "A full week, you were gone a week," she said.
"Yeah, I got carried away with some magic practice," Raze replied.
"If any other student had given me such an excuse, I would have called it a lie. But knowing you, I know that's what it was. Hopefully, this time you can linger around the academy for a bit before you vanish off," she said.
"Yes, I'll try my best to do that," he replied.
"Good. Since you're just coming back, I'll have to give you a room. I had one prepared for when you finally decided to return," she said, then pulled open her drawer. "I knew you would come to me first, so here it is," she said, taking out a key.
"First-year dormitory, it's two per dorm, and you'll get to know your roommate by the end of the day. Get dressed in your academy uniform and join the others for class, at least," she said, sliding the key over the table to Raze. He picked it up and looked at the tag.
[Floor 2, Room 12]
"Alright, I'll be leaving then," he said, giving her a wave before heading straight for the dorm building. Locating the room wasn't hard at all. He unlocked the door and walked in.
It was a simple room, two beds at either side, study tables, crystal lights on the roof, wardrobes, and small shelves stocked with some books.
He didn't bother wasting time taking a better look. He could already tell that his roommate took the left bed, so he took the right one. He noticed that the bags he had initially brought with him when he traveled were already there.
Raze cleaned up as fast as he could, then got into the uniform, a knee-length black suit with purple accents and the Raven Academy emblem: a rising raven holding a scroll. A simple purple shirt underneath, purple trousers, and clean black boots.
He looked at himself with a smile. "Hehe, looks good," he muttered before carrying his bat. He always moved with it, regardless of where he was going, it was his weapon, after all.
He left the room and headed for the main building again, this time to find where the classes were being held. Upon arriving, there weren't many students out in the first-year wing; everyone was taking their studies seriously. Finally, he spotted one student and asked where the classes were, and the student pointed him in the direction of the magical combat class.
Arriving there, he could already hear the voices from inside, a low hum from the students. So he used God's Eyes to scan the class. Everyone, over two hundred and fifty students, was seated in what looked like a massive lecture room, receiving magic combat lessons from a middle-aged man with half-grey hair.
"They haven't separated the students into classes yet, I guess," Raze muttered.
"You, at the door, are you going to be joining us or not?" the teacher's voice reached Raze's ears. He was shocked that the man had noticed him through closed doors. He pushed the door open and walked in, every eye on him in that moment. Raze already spotted Gavin and Riker in the class.
The students began talking the moment they saw him. The last time all of them had seen him was during the first entrance examination. After that, none of them saw him again, and then, poof, he was back again.
"Who the hell does he think he is? Just coming out of nowhere."
"We all nearly died in the second segment, and yet he walks in after missing everything."
"Tsk, I'm sure he's the son of some rich noble or merchant, and they pay their way through everything."
Different talks exploded all around, but Raze carried a soft smile on his face as he walked.
"And who are you, young man?" the man asked. "I've had this class for almost a week, and I haven't seen your face," he stated.
"Raze Grimhold," Raze replied.
The man raised a brow when he heard the name; he'd been briefed about a student like that earlier.
"So you're the special student, huh? Well, you're not special to me. Everyone here in the class is far more special than you, young man, since they've been here since the start. I don't care what reason you gained such status, but in here, only excellence shines," the teacher said.
"I understand," Raze said, still wearing the same smile. That smile somehow made the teacher slightly pissed, as if his words weren't getting to Raze.
"Go and take a seat," he said. Raze nodded and walked off, finding an empty space close to Gavin and sitting down.
