SSS Class Mythic Beast Master

Chapter 352: Dream Problems (1)

Celestia hummed thoughtfully, stepping closer to examine the symbol more carefully. Her eyes traced the intricate design with interest. "Then I can see why you aren't worried." She paused, her gaze lifting to meet his. "But there are still some curses that could slip through because you aren't a First Class Beast Master yet."

Reinhard fell silent, unable to argue with that logic.

The tide was something both Brunhilde and Vlad had admitted would destroy them if they fell into it when he'd asked them.

Even Charles, with his powerful negation abilities, had been extremely wary of being drowned by those crimson-black flames.

This meant there were curses inside that tide capable of dissolving and destroying top-level Beast Masters. Curses that could unmake even the strongest warriors or leave severe, lasting effects on them.

"Still..." Rosaria's voice cut through his thoughts. "Did it become your Beast Spirit because you made it curious and took its hand?"

Reinhard fell silent, considering his words carefully. He glanced around the room, his light blue eyes checking corners and shadows. "There's no one listening around, right?"

Rosaria's eyes narrowed, her expression becoming deadly serious. "There isn't. Celestia made sure to pick this room, it's deep in the medical wing and far from others."

Celestia nodded with a faint smile, confirming Rosaria's statement.

Reinhard sighed, and his shoulders dropped slightly as he made his decision. "When I was given my Beast Trial by Odin, he mentioned something. He said I could gain more Beast Spirits because I'm made up of more pieces." He paused, watching their reactions. "I'm not sure what that means exactly, but Odin confirmed one thing, he wasn't the reason I gained Fenrir as a Beast Spirit. It was because my body or soul always had that ability."

Silence descended on the room.

The air seemed to thicken as Celestia's eyes widened slightly while Rosaria's posture went rigid, her mind clearly racing through implications.

Then Celestia gently clapped her hands together, the sound breaking the tension. "It seems you always bring an interesting surprise every time you come here."

Rosaria nodded slowly, her crimson eyes never leaving Reinhard's face. "It's becoming almost routine at this point." She took a breath, and her expression softened just slightly. "But thank you for sharing this information. You could have easily kept it to yourself."

Reinhard inwardly sighed, as there wasn't any point in keeping this information secret, not when he was so limited in understanding. He needed those around him for help if he wanted to figure out what Odin's words truly meant, and if there were consequences for gaining more Beast Spirits.

He learned this from Eastern Hesod and Phane City. He can't rely on himself or keep secrets when he can have others help him.

But then Celestia's expression shifted to concern and slight worry. "But this might be a problem though... A very big problem."

Reinhard paused before asking. "What do you mean? Is it about the Mori Empire?"

Rosaria's eyes widened suddenly before she slightly frowned. "Reinhard..." Her voice was careful. "Have you had dreams about Odin yet?"

Reinhard blinked at the unexpected question before nodding. "It's close to a dozen by now."

Celestia blinked in surprise, her composure slipping for just a moment. "That's surprising. You've only been an Inquisitor for half a year..." She paused. "But this does make me even more worried."

Rosaria moved closer. "What about Fenrir? Have you dreamed about him?"

Reinhard shook his head. "Not yet. But Mimir says I'll start dreaming about Fenrir and Angra Mainyu soon, though."

Celestia sighed while Rosaria asked her next question. "When you dream about Odin, how do you feel afterward? Is it overwhelming? Odd? Does it affect you in any way?"

Reinhard furrowed his brows, thinking back to those dreams. "There are some dreams that have me waking up with a gasp. They leave me confused sometimes. And I feel the emotions from them..."

He trailed off as understanding suddenly crashed over him like a wave, and his eyes widened.

"Wait." He said slowly, the pieces clicking together. "Is this about me feeling what Angra Mainyu will feel in the dreams?"

Celestia's expression shifted, becoming graver than Reinhard had ever seen it. She nodded slowly, her white-gold hair catching the light as she moved. "Not all Beast Spirit dreams will be a neutral or positive thing." Her voice dropped lower, taking on a tone that suggested she was about to share something deeply troubling. "In fact, some can be very negative experiences, leading to some Beast Masters falling into comas or experiencing traumatic events that would destroy them completely."

Reinhard blinked in surprise, his light blue eyes widening. Then his expression twisted into a grimace as the implications settled over him.

Celestia began speaking about specific cases, her hands gesturing as she painted pictures with her words. "Four years ago, there was a girl who had The Wendigo Beast Spirit." She paused, letting that sink in. "She had dreams where her skin was freezing all over, and she felt her insides turning to ice. Then in another dream she felt hunger so fierce that it consumed every thought, a gnawing emptiness that wouldn't stop until she ate flesh."

Celestia's voice remained clinical with a slight frown. "In another of her dreams, she consumed her loved ones. Over and over, night after night, with her waking up to tasting blood that wasn't there, feeling their warmth slide down her throat." She shook her head slowly. "All of this led to a severe psychological breakdown. She experienced guilt hallucinations of seeing the faces of family members she'd never actually hurt, hearing their screams. She went into starvation shock because she was terrified of eating anything at all."

Reinhard felt his stomach turn while his hands clenched at his sides.

But Celestia wasn't finished. "Then there was another case, a young man who had the Beast Spirit Phantom called Sisyphus." Her constellation-patterned dress swirled as she shifted her weight. "He dreamt of an endless cycle of pushing a boulder up an impossible incline. The boulder would slip, would fall, would roll back down, and crush him. He felt his bones breaking, felt the weight of that stone grinding him into the ground."

She took a breath, her expression pained. "And then he would wake at the bottom again, feeling his Beast Spirit hope flickering in his chest that maybe this time would be different. Maybe this time he could reach the top, so he'd push again, and again. The dream never ended but simply reset."

Celestia's voice grew quieter. "After a while, he couldn't handle tasks with no clear end. Simple things such as folding laundry that would need to be folded again, cleaning dishes that would get dirty again, sent him spiraling into depression and a complete breakdown. He saw tasks like those as an endless punishment."

Reinhard's throat felt dry. His mind raced, imagining experiencing something like that every time he experienced Angra Mainyu dreams.
