The Rise of Quetzalcoatl

Chapter 344: Titan Encounter

We soon walked over to a large screen and a controller right beside it, allowing me to see a decently sized drone wheeling through the planes of a dark and dusty place.

From above, the sound of monstrous beasts rang in the speakers, sending a shiver down my spine.

"We could only experience them through virtual reality… but now we've finally found another dungeon with Titans… and it's for our use only! Isn't that incredible-!"

She was suddenly cut off by a shadow coming down and stomping the drone, crushing yet another piece of machinery worth more than fifty times her salary.

"O-Oops?"

"*sigh*... That will be coming out of your salary," I muttered, and the woman quickly grabbed my hands, putting on the biggest puppy eyes she could muster.

"But that's my entire salary… that's not fair," She begged, but I was already losing too much money on her to not display any signs of accountability for her own actions.

"And you didn't have any video to show, or it? Hm? You could've shown me some video, but you had to use yet another billion-dollar device,"

"W-Well, you see…." She tapped her fingers together, unable to look at me. "All the drones were destroyed before we could ever retrieve any visual evidence and such… so… ummmm… I was wondering if you could go in there and film something and bring it back,"

"Tch… dammit… I was hoping to get sponsors, but with no evidence, I can't do shit," I grumbled, causing Nuala to wearily chuckle to herself as I groaned from annoyance. "I mean, I was planning on using it… so I guess it wouldn't hurt," I muttered before swiftly putting on a designated skin-tight suit and a mask similar to that of astronauts.

As Nuala and I approached the massive portal by descending the staircase all the way down to the base of it, Nuala informed me of a few protocols that I was already aware of.

"Remember, try to avoid getting into a fight with multiple of them. They may be extremely slow, but there has been evidence of a potential hivemind… so…."

"Hivemind? Seriously? Isn't that seriously bad news for me, then?"

"Well, you can always press the button on your belt if need be to return here, but the quick transfer might shake some of your organs, damaging them quite a bit. We have named it Dimensional Shifting Sickness, otherwise known as DSS, and the only one who has had it died a few days after… though, I believe you could withstand it,"

"But you'll be watching over me, right?"

"Yes, the camera that will be recording everything will allow me to see what you see essentially and possibly even speak to you if you actually hear me under so much pressure. Also, I can always take you out by myself and through my own methods, which will also extremely lower the chance of causing DSS. Though, it will take some more time than you clicking your button. It takes me a few minutes, while yours is practically instant… so just be weary of that fact,"

"Alright, I got it," I muttered, slowly leaving Nuala's side as she stood further away from the portal while I began to walk towards it.

"J-Just stay safe! Please!" She shouted as the warping and groans of the portal seemingly invited me into it.

I gave her a nod before jumping straight into the portal, feeling different layers of gravity attempt to tear the flesh off of my bones, attempt to wobble my brain, and cause some kind of traumatic brain injury.

It hurt horribly, and I nearly fainted, but it soon stopped in a few more seconds, causing me to reappear on a deserted gray plane.

The sky was dark, and the clouds were even darker, allowing practically no light to shine in this constant nightly world.

OOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRR

I felt my chest nearly shatter as the sound of the Titan erupted through the air, giving me the real taste of the experience that was outside the restrictions and limits of virtual reality technology.

I felt a bit confident because I had taken them on while in the capsules, but now….

"I'm fucked… I'm so fucked," I muttered, seeing a shadow quickly appear above me, so I ran as fast as my legs could take me, but the shadow was just so long that even at my top speed, I barely made it out. "Huff… huff… huff… huff… I'm so fucked,"

"Ahem… S-Sis, are you alright?" A creaky voice echoed through my helmet, but I was in so much shock that I could barely respond.

"Y-Yeah… *cough* *cough* *cough* *cough* *cough* *cough* *cough* *cough* *cough* *cough*" A string of coughs escaped my mouth as a crushing pressure attempted to squeeze my heart to pieces.

It hurt so bad that I could only drop to my knees as yet another shadow from above came crashing down toward me.

Click

Before I knew it, my body had reacted on its own, and I clicked the button on the belt, teleporting me back to the base of the portal, where I practically lost all feeling in my body.

Soon, Nuala and her assistants came to get me in thick suits and comically large helmets that prevented them from crumbling under the pressure of the portal.

I was taken through the lab and to the infirmary, where a nurse immediately began to inspect me.

"Is she alright?" Nuala asked, sitting next to my bed as I was fed a respirator, and a needle was injected into my right arm. "She just came back from the portal… so…"

"Yes, there are signs of DSS, but nowhere near as bad as the previous subject who went in there… it's mostly just internal damage, and the external damage is practically nothing. Only a few strains in her skin which we can fix up instantly…." The nurse said as she took out the needle upon injecting all the fluid into me.

"So, will she be fine?"

"Yes, she will. Just give me some space as I'll need to do an emergency surgery before I can actually use my healing powers… everyone, please, the infirmary!" She shouted before I felt my mind drift off.
