"The Young miss is still currently getting ready… u-ummmm… should we check on her? Should we drag her out? Your call, Mistress."
"No… I will get her myself," I gritted my teeth and stormed out of the dining room. And after walking down my perfectly built Japanese castle-style halls, which were widened for convenience, I knocked on my daughter's pale white door.
Out of every place in this castle of mine, the only thing ruining its completed look was my daughter's very modern, sleek, and patternless room. She loved it, so I didn't tamper with it, but it did urk me every time I caught just a glimpse of it.
BANG BANG BANG
"Ada! Your other mom is here! You don't want to keep her waiting!"
It seems even that didn't work since I saw absolutely no trace of my daughter. There was just a bit of rumbling behind her door, but that was it. So in the end, tired of waiting, I kicked down her door and saw that she was collapsed on the ground, face flat against the floor.
"Oh my god! Baby, are you okay?!" I shouted, but just as I kneeled next to her, she turned towards me, groaning ever so slightly. She had massive eyebags under her bright pupils, and from what I could see, standing above her, she had large bruises across her arms and legs.
"Mom… I'm sorry. I tried out being a vigilante last night, and… I think I'm done for the year," my daughter sighed. And just hearing those words made me rub my eyes and crumple my face with annoyance. Like, what was she doing? Why was she even trying to become a vigilante?
Everything about this situation was just so stupid that I ended up dragging her through the broken doorway and down the hallway. Unsurprisingly, she didn't even try to retaliate, as her body was aching way too much.
"M-Mistress, does she need some medicine? Maybe pain meds? Should we get her a healer or maybe a priest-?" I quickly cut off a maid who had run by flexing my finger in front of her face, eventually bringing it close to my lips to gesture a shushing motion. There was somebody here. Somebody was here watching us.
"Shadows, find them. Once you restrain them, bring them to me. I'll decide their judgment," I muttered, feeling the presence of whatever was watching me disappear almost instantly. It didn't seem very powerful, and I didn't know who would dare do such a thing, so this anomaly was enough to make me even more nervous and stressed than before.
The shadows that were hiding in my daughter's own shadow dispersed across the hall. Their sleek black figures disappeared into the mere inches of light scattered through the halls. And since there was so little, they were eventually forced to come out of the shadows and begin their investigation outside. This also meant the person watching me was invisible rather than hiding in a shadow or something.
"M-Mistress… your daughter?" The maid, whose eyes scoured the hallway, asked once again. She took a deeper notice of my daughter, who was exhausted, collapsed, and at my slowly escaping mercy. I was so fucking stressed and angry that I could hardly suppress a dark aura that seeped out of my skin, just like the mercy I was trying to grant my daughter.
"Tch… no, she won't be receiving any treatment. This is a good lesson to not try any stupid ideas on a whim… understand, little missy?" I turned to my daughter, whose red and slightly swollen face responded with a small nod. "Good, now let's finally fucking eat."
…
As I sat down at the table, my daughter collapsed into the chair, and Mia walked into the room, smelling like garbage. Whatever she smoked while I wasn't watching her wafted through the massive room, infiltrating my nostrils like a sentient wisp of smoke.
"God… can you even have the courtesy to brush your teeth or take a shower?" I leaned away from the smelly woman who attempted to give me a kiss. She frowned as she felt me push her away, and it was for a good reason, yet she still wanted to get a bit of love from me. So, I eventually let her kiss the back of my hand before sitting down in her own chair.
"So… it seems our daughter has been partaking in… vigilantous work, is that right?" Mia's silky eyes landed on our daughter, who just groaned in response. Wanting a response, she called over a present servant who knew healing magic and immediately performed it on her upon getting my own reluctant nod.
I didn't want her groaning to ruin my morning experience anymore since I was already fed up with it. And for some reason, my annoyance levels were through the goddamn roof. Just hearing my daughter serve her own food was enough to make a vein pop out of my head.
"Can we get her some coffee? I think she's grumpy because she has yet to have her morning dose of caffeine," Mia lightly chuckled before turning back to our daughter, who looked much, much, much, much better than before. In fact, her skin looked even younger and tighter than previously. It was like the servant had added a few beauty spells to the mix… even though those didn't work.
"Mom, please stop staring at me if you're not going to say anything. It gives me the creeps," Ada replied, digging into her pancakes which were stacked up ten levels high on her own plate. And as if she hadn't bastardized the stack enough, she poured what seemed to be a gallon of syrup on top, letting it flow down the fluffy pastries like a volcano.
"Then, tell me… what did you really do last night? Your mother here doesn't have the patience nor effort to ask, so how about I do it for her… tell the truth, okay honey?" Mia sternly smiled, intimidating our daughter just enough to finish swallowing her massive cut of pancakes and then speak up.
But, before that, I received my cup of coffee with two sugars and three creams. It flowed down my throat like silk, and the bitter aftertaste was enough to fully snap me awake if the time of life this morning didn't do that already.
"Ahem…" my daughter cleared her throat, making sure it was her time for attention as it seemed my blissful state was enough to draw the attention of everybody. "Anyways, I saw the prince last night-"
BAM
Mia slammed her hands on the table, sending pieces of food flying everywhere as she roared, letting out a gust of pink flames from her mouth. "WHAT!?" She shouted, making sure our daughter heard her next words loud and clear. "TELL ME WHAT THE ACTUALLY… FUCK YOU JUST SAID! SAY IT AGAIN! I NEED TO HEAR IT CLEARLY BECAUSE I MUST BE HEARING THINGS WRONG!"
"I-I'm sorry, b-but it was for a good reason… j-just let me explain," Our daughter stuttered under the intense pressure that Mia unleashed onto the room. And after a few calming gestures by me, she slowly sat down back in her chair but leaned forward intently, ready to absolutely flame our daughter once again, no matter what excuse she said.
"Go ahead. I'm waiting."
"W-W-Well…" Our daughter trailed off as if she couldn't even remember how to speak the English alphabet. Under the pressure of her mother, who was completely filled to the brim with anger, she could hardly muster the courage to reply. "W-We had a little sparring session. No skills, no weapons, no outside forces. Just a pure hand-to-hand combat battle… a-and I had fun! I actually have a friend who gets me and can take a joke! He's fun to be around and especially fun to learn from him and fight him!"
"Honey, just calm down for a second," I smiled at Mia, who was still unamused by the answer.
The roles had completely switched as Mia was calming me down earlier, but now I was the one calming her down. Thankfully, one of us was peaceful at the time. Otherwise, our daughter would have probably just got up and left, leaving us to argue and mostly put the impression in our precious child's mind that were going to break up.
"I hope you understand that I'm not about you going out in the middle of the night with a boy. As long as you are safe, you feel safe, and you follow whatever laws need to be followed, you can do whatever you want. But meeting one to one with the enemy is just asking for an ass beating! A kidnapping! Something we could be blackmailed with!"
"I-I'm sorry… I just thought I should be establishing a better relationship with him and… and stuff…." Our daughter looked down at her feet dangling off the side of the chair.
"*sigh*... Ugh, okay… let's just… let's stop being so negative right now. We haven't had a meal together in a while, so let's change the subject," I immediately intervened.
