The Rise of Quetzalcoatl

Chapter 709: Ethel's Underwater Rule (12)

He lifted his sword, deflecting her shot, and advanced, his movements fluid and relentless. He swung his sword in a powerful horizontal arc, aiming for her midsection. She deflected with her trident, twisting it just so to redirect his strike. But he anticipated her move, grabbing her by the arm with his free hand and pulling her close, bringing his knee up to her side with bone-jarring force.

Ethel gasped, but she didn't let go of her trident. She wrenched her arm free, using the momentum to deliver a quick, sharp elbow to his chest. He blundered back, but quickly regained his stance, his eyes flashing with a dangerous light. They circled each other, both breathing heavily, every muscle poised to spring into action.

The Emperor, sensing her momentary weakness, raised his sword high and brought it down in a brutal arc. Ethel sidestepped, narrowly avoiding the blow, and countered with a swift jab to his side, aiming for a chink in his golden armor. But he twisted away, catching her trident with his sword and pinning it momentarily. She yanked it free, but he was already on her, his speed blinding as he struck with a relentless series of slashes and thrusts, forcing her to dodge and block with every ounce of agility she had.

Each swing of his sword seemed to grow heavier, his golden scales intensifying with every strike. She could feel her strength waning, her muscles straining under the relentless assault, but she refused to yield. Summoning a surge of energy, she whirled around, bringing her trident in a sweeping arc that sent a wave of golden light crashing toward him.

The Emperor raised his sword, slicing through the wave as if it were mist, and lunged forward, his golden armor shimmering in the dark water. They clashed once more, a flurry of rapid, precise strikes, each move calculated and deadly. Ethel ducked, sidestepped, countered with a quick jab to his ribs, but he anticipated her every move, blocking and retaliating with a speed and strength that was overwhelming.

He pressed her back, relentless, his eyes fierce and unyielding. With a final, powerful strike, he drove his sword down, catching her trident and twisting it from her grasp. Ethel staggered back, her weapon tumbling from her hands, and she stared up at him, breathing heavily, her chest heaving with exertion.

The Emperor stood over her, his golden scales glinting in the darkness, his sword poised. He met her gaze, his expression hard, and for a moment, they simply stared at each other, their breaths echoing in the silence of the deep. The creatures around them had gone still, watching in silent reverence as the battle between the two sovereigns came to an end.

Finally, the Emperor lowered his sword, his gaze softening just slightly. "It is over," he said, his voice resonating through the water.

The water stirred ominously beneath Ethel, the light from her trident dimming as an immense shadow rippled outward like ink spreading across the depths. A low chuckle reverberated through the sea, dark and mocking. Ethel's lips curled into a vicious smile, her expression shifting from exhaustion to triumphant defiance.

"I didn't expect you to help out," she murmured, her voice dripping with amusement as she gazed downward.

The shadow deepened, twisting upward like smoke, and a voice replied, rich with exasperation. "I knew you'd pull some dumb shit like this."

Before the Emperor could react, the shadow surged upward in a violent eruption, forming jagged spikes that thrust outward in every direction. The Emperor instinctively leaped back, his sword raised defensively as the spikes lashed toward him, forcing him to retreat further.

The shadows coiled around Ethel, wrapping her in undulating tendrils of darkness that pulsed like a living thing. Her golden light flickered and dimmed, merging with the oppressive black, until both forces fused into a singular, ominous glow. The surrounding sea creatures recoiled, their instincts screaming of a power beyond comprehension.

The writhing shadows suddenly condensed, pulling tight against Ethel's body as her form began to transform. When the blackness finally faded, she stood anew, a terrifying fusion of oceanic life and shadowy magic.

Her once shimmering hair now rippled like liquid night, streaked with bioluminescent blue that pulsated like veins of light in the darkness. Her skin had darkened to an iridescent obsidian, glinting faintly with shadowy scales that seemed to absorb the surrounding light. Shadowy tendrils, tipped with translucent fins, extended from her back, undulating with a life of their own, resembling both manta ray wings and spectral flames.

Her arms and legs were adorned with shifting patterns of shadow that mimicked seaweed swaying in unseen currents. Her fingers had elongated slightly, tipped with claws of jagged obsidian, each glowing faintly at the edges like molten glass. Around her waist, a shadowy sash morphed into a long, flowing tail that seemed to alternate between being solid and ethereal, shifting into a jagged silhouette one moment and a sleek, eel-like appendage the next.

Ethel's eyes were the most haunting of all—now glowing orbs of deep violet with vertical slits, piercing and predatory. They burned with a hunger that seemed to cut through the water like a blade, locking onto the Emperor with chilling intensity.

Her trident had also changed, now fused with shadow. The golden gleam was dimmed, its surface blackened and warped. Jagged spikes jutted from its prongs, flickering with dark energy, and the weapon pulsed in time with her transformed aura.

The voice of the shadow whispered from within her, resonating in tandem with her own. "Now, let's show him what real domination looks like."

Ethel's smile widened, revealing teeth sharp and glinting like a predator's. "Fuck, this feels good," she hissed, her voice layered with an echo of shadowy malice.

The Emperor stared at her, his expression unreadable for a moment before his gaze hardened. "You've become an abomination," he growled, raising his sword. "But even abominations can be destroyed."

"Why is he talking like a movie character?"

"Sis, I don't know…"

Ethel surged forward, faster than before, her movements now a blend of fluid grace and predatory ferocity. Shadow tendrils lashed out from her back, striking toward the Emperor like whips, while her claws raked the water in slashing arcs that seemed to cut through the very currents.

The underwater kingdom seemed to darken further, the shadow magic swallowing the faint light that had illuminated their battlefield. Every eye, from the smallest fish to the largest leviathan, was locked on the terrifying clash that followed.

As Shadow Queen Ethel's transformation completed, the battlefield itself seemed to shift in her favor. The sea beasts that had sworn allegiance to her began to change, their bodies darkening as shadow tendrils crept over their forms. Leviathans, squids, and eels alike took on an eerie, spectral appearance, their eyes glowing with the same haunting violet light that now radiated from Ethel. The once-bright battlefield dimmed, becoming an underwater realm of twilight where her power thrived.

The Emperor stood amidst the shifting tide, his golden scales shimmering defiantly against the oppressive shadows. His gaze remained steady, unyielding, as Ethel's haunting form approached.

Without warning, Ethel launched herself forward, a blur of darkness. Her trident lashed out in a vicious arc, the blackened spikes trailing streams of shadow that cut through the water like scythes. The Emperor spun his sword to intercept, the clash creating a shockwave that sent ripples through the murky waters.

Ethel used the momentum of the clash to twist her body, sweeping low in a fluid motion. Her shadow-wreathed tail snapped toward the Emperor's legs, aiming to unbalance him. He leapt back just in time, countering with a swift slash aimed at her midsection. Ethel bent impossibly backward, her body contorting as the blade sliced just inches from her.

She retaliated with a flick of her clawed hand, sending jagged shards of shade toward him like shrapnel. The Emperor raised his arm, the golden scales along his forearm thickening to deflect the projectiles, which shattered harmlessly against him. He charged forward, closing the space with a strong thrust of his blade.

Ethel pivoted sharply, one of her shadow tendrils coiling around the trident in her grasp and extending outward to block the strike. The tendril hardened into a jagged, crystalline barrier, absorbing the force of the Emperor's attack. She used the moment to step into his guard, slamming her knee toward his ribs.

The Emperor twisted his torso, letting her strike glance off his scaled armor. He responded with a devastating elbow aimed at her temple. Ethel ducked under it, her shadow tendrils snapping upward to claw at his exposed neck. The Emperor leaned back, twisting his sword in a tight arc to sever the tendrils before they could reach him.

Ethel snarled, using her tail to propel herself upward in a spinning motion. She brought her trident down like a hammer, releasing a burst of shadow energy that cascaded toward the Emperor in a spiraling wave. He crossed his sword in front of him, slicing through the wave, but the impact pushed him back, scattering the water around him in swirling eddies.
