The shrill ringing of the phone sliced through the room. Ethan, still breathing heavily and enraged by the interruption, snatched the phone without looking at the caller ID.

"What the hell do you want!?" Ethan answered, his voice a low, furious snarl.

Jason's desperate voice sounded immediately through the speaker. "Boss! Thank God, you answered! It's Cassandra, boss, we can't locate her."

At the sound of the panic in Jason's voice, Ethan's passion instantly vanished. His face went hard, turning serious and murderous in an instant. Ethan walked away from her toward the door, stepping outside onto the landing to speak in private.

Ethan slammed his fist against the apartment building's wall. The wall cracked; his fist had made a huge hole in the wall. "You're right," Ethan conceded, the admission costing him everything. "Thanks for letting me know. Wait for instructions. If they call or contact us in any way, call me immediately." Ethan ordered Jason before hanging up.

Ethan turned and looked at her footwear. "If I have to run, I'd rather not wear heels, I hope you don't mind," Sarah said, defending her choice.

"You look beautiful, don't worry," Ethan said, his voice now serious. "From this moment on, everything that comes will be too complicated and dangerous. Your parents are on their way, so this is your last chance. Go inside and let's pretend this never happened. I'll come back, and we can do less suicidal crazy things another day."
