Lucifer: Godless Reawakening

Chapter 173: Nothing works

Name: Prism Ape

Danger level: C

Speciality: Aether deflection—any attack fused with aether could be reflected, blocked or absorbed by the creature.

…..

William took a deep breath, his breath slightly uneven as he wiped the blood from his nose, his eyes never leaving the monkey standing there, on one foot—the other one was still lifted which had previously kicked William.

'As I thought, this creature just loves to play around…' It hadn't tried to come at William with the intent to kill, rather it was absorbed in the battle.

Raising his arm abruptly, William sent a cleaving arc towards the monster…but,

**CRACK**

It slashed its arm too, completely slashing the cleave—leaving no damage on the monster.

As he thought, there was no point in trying to use spells on it. It could see aether constructs.

The monster started to walk…toward him.

William flicked his wrist and his knife, lying a few meters away, flew back to his hand.

Holding it in a reverse grip and the left hand clench, he saw the ape taking slow…intimidating steps—and then, it leapt.

**DHAKK**

Where it landed should have been William's head but the blond one sprang back just in time and threw several chunks of stone at the monkey with telekinesis.

The rocks fell uselessly to the ground after hitting the ape as the monster narrowed its eyes and continued its charge.

Its left hand shot forward, palm flat, aiming his chest.

William read the move, pushed the wrist with his elbow and drove the dagger straight at the monkey.

*Clench*

The monster held his wrist just in time, prompting William to drop the knife from his right hand, extend his left hand low, grab the dagger and aim it at its naval—

*CLANG*

Of course, it bounced off.

The monster shot his knee up, William blocked it with his left hand but the force was too great to completely stop it.

*DHAK*

It hit his chin, making his skull rattle but, despite the force, he couldn't stagger back as the dungeon boss was holding his wrist.

William groaned and slashed his left hand, using Cleave from point blank but it bounced off the monster uselessly.

The ape grabbed his left wrist too and reeled his head back.

Panic surged as William read his next move and instantly jumped to kick the monster's chest before it could headbutt him.

*DHAK*

Adding the telekinetic force, the ape was sent staggering back, liberating William.

But that didn't stop the clash.

The ape didn't rush him again.

That alone was wrong.

William steadied his breathing, rolling his shoulder once as the dull ache settled deeper into the joint. The Prism Ape circled instead, its bare feet brushing the stone floor without a sound, eyes fixed—not hungry, not bloodthirsty—observant.

It was measuring him.

William shifted his stance, dagger raised, and stepped in.

The moment his foot touched the cracked tile near the pillar, the ape moved.

Not forward—sideways.

Its heel clipped a loose slab embedded in the floor. The stone flipped up, just enough to disrupt William's footing. He adjusted instinctively, adding telekinetic force to stabilize—

The ape was already there.

DHAK

An elbow crashed into his ribs. Not heavy, not full force—but precise. The breath tore from his lungs as pain bloomed along his side. William twisted away and slashed, but the blade struck only air.

The ape's hand flicked out, fingers tapping William's wrist.

Numb.

His grip loosened for half a heartbeat—enough.

The monster retreated two steps, calm, almost casual, letting William stumble forward before regaining balance.

William grit his teeth and raised his left hand, forming a compact aether construct. A cleaving arc formed instantly—

The ape's eyes glinted.

But the Cleave was not directed at it this time.

**DHAK** **CRACK**

It hit the ceiling, instantly letting the debris fall but the upper floor didn't break.

The ape narrowed its eyes and looked down—William was already there, his palms connected as he delivered a jackhammer straight onto the monster's skull.

*DHAK*

It hit, but despite the telekinesis assist, it did not visible damage to the ape.

But…it sure made it angry.

The change was instant.

The Prism Ape roared—not loud, but raw—and lunged.

William barely had time to raise his arms before the blow landed.

DHAKK

A fist crashed into his guard and drove straight through it. His feet tore across the stone floor as he was hurled back, skidding through dust and shattered tiles until his back slammed into a broken column.

CRACK

Pain burst through his spine. His vision shook as smoke and debris swallowed the space between them.

He coughed, forcing air into his lungs as footsteps crushed stone within the haze.

Fast.

Too fast.

The change was instant.

William rolled just as something slammed where his head had been. The impact shattered the floor, chunks of stone flying past his face. Another strike followed—then another—each one heavy, relentless, the ape no longer testing, no longer measuring.

It was hunting.

William pushed off the ground, his boots sliding as another blow clipped his shoulder and sent him spinning. He hit the floor hard, breath knocked loose, blood splattering the stone beneath him.

The smoke thickened.

The ape stepped through it.

William's eyes narrowed.

His hand rose—not toward the monster—

—but upward.

A small, dense spell formed at his fingertip. No flourish. No expansion.

Just compression.

A Drop of Oblivion shot upward like a bullet.

*CRACK—BOOM*

It struck the exact fracture in the ceiling where the Cleave had hit earlier.

The stone screamed.

The already weakened slab gave way as fissures raced outward, and the ceiling collapsed in a violent cascade.

William rolled away as tons of debris thundered down.

*DHAK—CRASH*

The Prism Ape vanished beneath falling stone, dust erupting outward in a choking wave as the dungeon floor trembled from the impact.

William lay on his side, chest heaving, staring at the collapsing ceiling through burning eyes.

Whether it worked or not—

He had bought himself a moment.
