Gacha Leveling

Chapter 115 – There and Back Again 7

There was a single minotaur guarding the door. It was wielding a single balded axe and a shield and wearing a bronze armor that looked like old roman armor, but fitted to its bestial body. It swung its axe around when it saw Matthew, Matil and Ffyr approaching as a challenge.

Matthew used his Identify skill on it. On level E, that skill only showed basic information, like name and level. It simply said: "Minotaur, Level 30". Matthew was level 24, but with demonic mana, he could easily surpass that level of strength.

Matthew decided to save his bullets for what would be behind those doors. He stepped forward with both his swords drawn. Earlier in the dungeon, he took out his torn shirt and used it to tie down his pseudodragon leather armor, that the Bashmu teared open, around his body.

Ffyr stayed behind with Matil watching the battle unfold.

Matthew's left eye shinned with demonic energy and he charged forward. Firynn's teaching was clear of Matthew's attacks. The minotaur defended itself as best as it could. It tried to counter with its horns, but Matthew was used to it by now after spending 5 days inside the Labyrinth fighting creatures like that.

Geovanna's footwork showed when Matthew dodged. His knee went up, just like his master did with him hundreds of times by now. A certain hit on the minotaur's chin made it stumble after missing its headbutt.

That was enough time for Matthew to bring down his sword and decapitate the monster making it disappear in a mist of mana.

Matil applauded him with a huge smile.

"That was so cool!" She exclaimed.

"You leveled up!

Rolling Gacha for class

Congratulations!

You drew a tier 2 class!

Defender."

Matthew looked surprised at his stats screen. He wasn't expecting to level up soon. But then again, he thought to himself, he had been fighting inside the Labyrinth for 5 days now. It shouldn't be a surprise to level up.

Defender was a Warrior tree class designed to protect other people. It had 3 skills, Cover, Shorten Debuff, and Vitality Boost.

Cover was a skill that allowed the user to receive damage instead of the target of the skill. Used upon an ally, any attack that ally received, would instead damage the user. It was a great skill for adventurers with high Vitality to protect those with weaker defensive stats.

Shorten Debuff was a passive skill that did exactly what it said. Any negative spell cast on the owner of the skill would last for a shorter period of time than normally. For example, if a Strength Down spell was cast, it would last longer on an adventurer without this skill than on someone who had it.

Vitality Boost was much similar to Vitality Up skill from the Visomancer, Paula's main class. It increased Vitality at the expense of MP. However, differently from Vitality Up, Vitality Boost only affected the user and could not be dispelled.

Matthew thought for a while and decided to pick Vitality Boost. If he used in conjunction with his Reckless Agility skill, he could increase his Agility without suffering a penalty on his Vitality.

He smiled looking upon his stats after distributing his free points:

Ffyr and Matil were looking at the huge door while Matthew fiddled with his stats. It was a huge golden door adorned with all types of ancient scriptures and symbols. There was no handle to open and no obvious way to make it open.

"How do we get in?" Matil asked knocking on the door. "Hello? Dungeon? I want to talk to you." She said loudly speaking to anything behind the door.

"Maybe we do need the tiara?" Matthew got closer taking the gold pieces he had in his pocket and looking if there was any way to use them on the door.

"Does this mean we have to go to Claudio and ask for the tiara?" Ffyr cringed at the idea.

"He would never allow you to take the dungeon prize for yourself." Matthew said pressing his hand on the door. "Matil, can you read what is written on the door?"

"I can't." Matil answered. "I don't know how to read." She said looking at the floor.

"It's all right." Matthew said. "Ffyr, can you take a look behind the door if you turn ethereal?"

"I can. But what good would that do?" She asked.

"Perhaps there's a way to open the door from the inside? Just try it." Matthew answered.

Ffyr pouted and made a face at him, but obeyed.

"There's only a man sitting on a throne here." She said to him telepathically. "He feels dangerous." She added.

"Can you open the door?" Matthew asked.

"No." She answered.

"Do we really need the tiara?" Matthew lamented to himself.

"Let me see!" Matil said to Matthew.

"See what?" He asked.

"What Ffyr is seeing." Matil said pulling Matthew to kneel before her.

"How?" Matthew asked confused kneeling down.

"Just let me, silly!" Matil laughed at him as if it was the simplest thing ever.

The Nixie then touched his head with both hands and closed her eyes.

"Oh! He looks dangerous. He must be the voice of the dungeon. Let's go talk to him!" She said with a smile.

Matthew felt sick for a while, but then he blinked and saw himself on the other side of the door. He looked unto Matil with wide eyes. She teleported them to the other side.

Matthew got up from his knees slowly and looked around. It was a large room with nothing in it but a throne where a man was sitting on.

The man had brown eyes, short dark messy hair and a long and rectangular beard styled in the old Sumerian way. It was wearing only a white Sumerian skirt, bare chested and barefoot. On his head he had a bronze helmet that fit him like a helmet.

He held a spear on his hand and had a small sword on his waist.

Matthew used identify on the man. It said: "Enkidu, Level 55". A very high level. Matthew almost died fighting the Bashmu who, according to his estimates, was about level 45. Could Matthew face that man?

Matil skipped happily towards the man with a smile on her face. Matthew tried to stop her, but he reacted too slowly.

"Hiii!" She said.

The man looked at her, for the first time looking like a living thing instead of a wax statue.

"Hello, little one." He said in a booming voice.

"Are you the dungeon's voice?" Matil asked innocently.

"I am not." Enkidu said. "I'm merely an image of an old warrior."

Matil pouted and turned on her feet.

"If you want the dungeon's will, you need to defeat me in combat." He added.

"So I can talk to the dungeon if Matt defeats you?" Matil asked looking back at Enkidu with a huge smile on her face.

"Is that your champion? Then yes." The man confirmed.

Matil skipped back at Matthew and laid her hands on him.

"You fight him now!" She said innocently.

"I don't think I can defeat him." Matthew confessed to her.

"You have to try!" Matil said. "I will help you rest!"

After those words, Matthew felt a warmth feeling coming form the Nixie's hands and entering his body. He felt his wounds heal, his sore muscles relax. His breathing got better. He felt well rested as if he just woke up from a very deep sleep.

"There! Now you can fight him!" Matil said with a huge smile.

It's then that Enkidu raised from the throne and took a few steps forward. He tapped his spear on the floor two times and said.

"Face me, little one's champion. Show me you are deserving of the tittle."

Matthew looked back at the closed door. There was no where to go. But then he thought of Faynn. How her body was tossed about like a rag doll. He needed to win. He needed to bring her back to life.

Matthew steeled himself. He drew a gun with his right hand. A sword in his left. He was well rested. This was a fight he needed to use all of his abilities. All of his powers.

"Let's go." He said with a smile as the demonic mana took over him.
