"Rise sons of Adam! The battle is not lost!" Ffyr screamed using her wind magic to amplify her voice. "Fight! Fight for the lives you swore to protect! Rise and fight!" She kept screaming flying towards Faynn.

One or other soldier woke up from their stupor with the fairy's words. One soldier manned a big machine gun that was mounted on the hear of a jeep and opened fire on the Balor.

The bullets passed through the imps and the other lesser demons like they had no Vital shield at all. But the Balor lifted its shield and took the bullet spray without taking any damage.

A tank then moved forward better positioning itself to shoot the greater demon.

Its turret spun on its axis and took aim at the demon.

The roar of the tank's cannon reverberated through the camp. The Balor was still holding his shield protecting himself from the machine gun when the shot was taken. However, with inhuman speed and precision, the Balor looked at the projectile coming in his direction and, with a laser beam from its eye, it blew it in the air.

A unit of imps flew towards the man on the machine gun while others flew at the tank. The horde resumed its attack.

With the defenses too preoccupied with keeping the lesser demons at bay, the Balor could resume his advance on the base.

However, Matthew was there in front of the shield wall that was slowly reforming waiting for the greater demon.

He lifted his gun and shot the demon who took the bullets with its shield.

The Balor answered fire with a laser beam from his eye that Matthew dodged by jumping away while it exploded the very floor where Matthew was standing on.

Matthew didn't have the firepower to harm the demon from that distance, therefore he charged forward using his gun to shoot down some imps that tried to stand on his way.

The Balor tried another laser beam against Matthew, but he grabbed a barbed devil by the tail and threw it on the beam making it explode in mid air.

Matthew jumped through the smoke that were the remains of the barbed devil and struck the Balor with a powerful slash with his sword coated in blue flames.

The grater demon held the strike with its shield and tried to cleave Matthew in twain with its sword, but Matthew was quick to dodge.

Matthew's miasma was now covering the battlefield while he traded blows with the Balor in an impressive display of power.

The soldiers that could witness the fight were dumbfounded by Matthew strength. Being able to fight as equal against a Balor in the middle of an army of demons was no lesser feat. Some even started to cheer he on with loud screams.

Meanwhile, Vanessa and Erin came to help the soldiers on the flank the machine gun was. Vanessa's knives flew true downing some dretches, while Erin's gold lightning bolts chained through a group of imps.

Vanessa used the rifle she picked up to kill distant enemies, while using her knives to down those who came too close.

Faralynn and Tina ran towards the flank that the tank drove into. Faralynn's arrows causing heavy damage to the demons she hit because of the holy mana she imbued in them.

Tina's magic missiles weren't as effective were in numbers great enough to keep the demons at bay.

Faralynn got on top of the tank, using her sword to pierce the heart of a barbed devil that was trying to open the tank's hatch.

Tina created a mana shield around the tank while Faralynn shouted her idea to the tank driver.

At the same time, Matthew dodged another attack from the Balor and quickly shot back taking a piece of the demon's ear.

The Balor screamed and shot its laser missing Matthew but destroying the ground near him with so much force that the debris flew and took some blood from him.

That didn't stop Matthew, he jumped high bringing his sword down at the demon's head. However, the Balor stopped the attack with its steel horn and used its shield to hit Matthew sending him flying back.

As soon as Matthew landed on the ground, the Balor's sword was upon him. He had no way to dodge it. When it was about to pierce his torso, it violently changed its direction to the side as a shadow spear surged from the ground hitting the Balor's arm tanking a little blood from the demon.

The demon didn't have time to understand what happened. Faynn came out of the shadows backstabbing the Balor on the exposed neck. It's blood spilled landing on Faynn and on the ground hot enough to damage her armor.

The wound she inflicted was grave, but it soon started to heal.

Ffyr came out flying and entered Matthew's necklace were she would be safe in that high level fight.

"The girls have a plan." Ffyr said to him telepathically.

"What is it?" Matthew answered keeping his eye on the greater demon.

"They're going imbue the tank's cannon and the machine gun with holy mana." Ffyr started laying out the plan. "You need to use your Shadow Form ability as soon as Faynn blinds the Balor."

"I never used it before." He said dodging an attack and laying a kick on the demons belly, while Faynn jumped in and out of shadows cutting the Balor every time she had the opportunity.

"Look at Faynn. Use your Sense Others skill and sense her mana. Try to do the same when the time comes." Ffyr instructed him.

"I'll try." Matthew said emptying his clip on the Balor's shield giving Faynn the chance to land another deep strike on the greater demon from behind.

The Balor responded by using his laser beam all around itself creating huge hole on the floor as he tried to hit Faynn.

Matthew didn't let the demon continue its assault charged it stabbing it clear on the chest sending it flying back a couple of feet. The Balor's chain mail was intact, but Matthew could see on its face that it hurt him.

That was the opening Faynn was waiting for. She cast a spell creating a deep shadow around the Balor's head effectively blinding it. Then she grabbed Matthew's hand and screamed:

"Now Matt!"

Matthew, through his contact with her could feel how her mana shifted. It was almost like sinking into water. He allowed himself to go down with her into the darkness bellow. Both of them melting into the shadows beneath them.

At that moment the machine gun raged hitting the Balor that hurried to lift its shield against the hundreds of bullets enhanced with Erin's holy mana that were particularly effective against its own demonic mana.

Now blind, the Balor couldn't use its shield effectively. When he lifted the shield, the gun went down and vice versa. Each bullet took a bit of blood from it and were rapidly sapping its Vital Shield.

The demon decided to cover its head with the shield while it tried to dispel the dark orb surrounding its head and making it unable to see its enemies.

It's then that Faralynn screamed:

"Now!" As she enhanced the tank's cannon's projectile with her own holy mana.

The Balor head the shot and tried to lift the shield in the direction of the sound. But unable to see, it didn't have time to stop the projectile. It hit the Balor on the ribs exploding its insides and sending parts of the demon raining over its own army.

Matthew and Faynn were safe from the explosion as shadows on the floor.

As a shadow, Matthew couldn't hear anything nor see anything. All he could do was to feel the mana around him with the Sense Others skill. It was claustrophobic not being able to see or hear. If it wasn't for the familiar presence of Faynn's mana near him, he might've panicked.

He then could sense a still on the demon's army after the Balor's death. And after just a couple of seconds, he could feel the imps flying away and the dretches and barbed devils running from the camp.

Coming out form the shadows was just the opposite of going in. Matthew had to feel himself floating and shape his mana to bring him back to his normal form.

When, he and Faynn emerged from the shadows, they were met with cheers from all the soldiers from camp.

Matthew's eyes watered up. Looking upon the happy faces of the men cheering as the demons fled he thought to himself that he did it. He prevented the horror from happening again. He could do it. He didn't need to be afraid anymore.

Walking back to the safe zone, Matthew used Purify on himself to clear off the effects of the miasma on his skin and the demonic mana in his body. As the demonic mana receded and his vision on his left eye went from red to black he noticed something odd.

The sounds around him dulled off.

He turned his head trying to understand what was happening. And then it hit him.

He was deaf from his left ear.
