"We're too exposed. Let's hurry up." Job said positioning himself by the door that left the stairwell and taking a look outside. "Go go go!" He ordered.

When Matthew passed the Major, the major opened fire at someone coming in the direction of them.

"They got Cambions here and humans working together. Don't hesitate and shoot to kill." Job said closing the door and quickly arming a trap with a claymore explosive.

The Major hurried up behind Matthew and Mara. Matthew had both his guns out.

"The three of us will keep an eye down and hold those who give us pursuit." Job instructed Matthew.

Not very long after, the claymore exploded, but Matthew could only hear the sound. They looked down and saw the smoke coming up. When Mara saw the first person peeking inside, she opened fire making the man retreat outside the stairwell.

They kept moving up. On each floor making sure the rooms outside the stairwell were clear of enemies. Matthew, Job and Mara, occasionally, shot downwards against some men who were going after them. Each floor they passed, more enemies seemed to join the pursuers.

By the 20th floor, they were flanked. A couple of Cambions came from upstairs and threw fireballs at them almost hitting them, but two of the soldiers were faster and deployed mana shields to protect them from the assault.

They shoot back up, but the Cambions were faster into hiding from the gunfire.

Now they were stuck between the Cambions upstairs and the men pursuing them from downstairs. The soldiers assumed defensive positions and started to trade fire with the enemies.

"We're sitting ducks here!" One of the soldiers screamed after stopping the explosion of a fireball with a mana shield.

"There's too many people coming up!" Mara screamed as she was shooting down.

Job looked around thinking about his options. But that's when Faynn disappeared into the shadows.

"What?" Vasconcelos got surprised when she vanished. "Where is she going?!"

"Saving us." Faralyn said taking a grenade from Vasconcelo's belt and throwing it to Matthew just saying to him with a smile: "Unholy hand grenade."

Matthew, even though he never watched the ancient movies of Monty Python, knew exactly what she meant. He imbued the grenade with unholy flames and used his Boost Gunpowder on it. He pulled the pin and dropped the flaming grenade that exploded sending shards with blue flames everywhere catching some of the people downstairs.

At the same time, Faynn went upstairs and back-stabbed both Cambions that were too preocupied with the soldiers to notice the shadows moving behind them. Cambions, however, were strong demons and it would take more than that to kill them.

Faynn immediately engaged them in close combat while the soldiers hurried upstairs to aid her. Using bayonets, 3 of the soldiers pierced the Cambions giving Faynn the opportunity to take their lives.

"Keep going up!" Faralynn ordered while Job was a bit stunned after seeing how the adventurers fought.

"You heard her. Up!" Job said realizing his soldiers weren't moving.

"Unholy fire can only be doused with a purification spell. That will hold them for a while." Faralynn explained to Job and he peeked down seeing that their pursuers weren't coming after them.

Close to the 30th floor a huge fireball came at them from downstairs. It exploded with such power that made all of them feel dizzy, even after the soldiers stopped it from hitting them directly. It also opened a huge hole on the wall from where they now could see the city.

Matthew looked down. He recognized who attacked them. It was Yuki, the Howling Spear's Vice Leader.

"Wasn't she in prison?" Matthew asked Vanessa.

"She should've been." Vanessa said shooting down. "They must've broke her out."

"It doesn't matter. She's powerful." Faynn said. "We can't fight her in here. Another one of those and she can blow all of us up." She added.

"She's right, into the building. Go, go go!" Job said shooting down.

Vasconcelos kicked down the door to the 30th floor and assaulted the corridor that gave access to the stairwell. The rest of the soldiers went after him while Job, Matthew and Mara kept shooting down at Yuki not giving her the window to throw another fireball at them.

As soon as all of them were out of the stairwell, another fireball came up exploding and sending the access door flying at the squad. The door was stopped by a mana shield cast by a soldier when it was very close to hit Faralynn.

"Thank you." She said to him while the other soldiers combed the floor in search of enemies.

The floor was empty.

"How do we get up from here?" Mara asked.

"There's another staircase on the south side of the building." Vasconcelos said using his phone to pull up the building plans.

"Ok." Job said. "This is a good defensive position." He pointed out the floor they were in. "We need to neutralize the fire mage. But we also need to keep going up before we are overrun by the enemy." He analyzed.

"I'll face Yuki." Matthew said. "Me and Ffyr can take her." He touched his necklace where Ffyr was inside hiding.

"She won't be alone." Job alerted him.

"I'll stay with him." Faralynn said.

"So will I." Faynn added. "The three of us are enough to stop them here. The rest of you go up."

"You sure?" Vasconcelos asked looking at the three of them. "You are civilians. You weren't even supposed to be here."

"We can do it. Just run up." Matthew said to him.

"Good luck." Vasconcelos answered nodding at Matthew recognizing his courage.

"I'll be going with them." Vanessa said to Matthew with a scary look in her eyes.

"I understand." Matthew said. "Make sure you're safe first before anything else." He added.

"Ok, Matt." Vanessa smiled at him softening her look for a second.

"Men. To the north staircase." Job ordered gesturing to his men to leave. "Laufgraan. Good luck."

As they watched the soldiers and Vanessa climb the stairs up, Matthew touched both Faralynn and Faynn's shoulders and cast a Bless spell on them to protect them from his miasma.

"I'm going to spread miasma all over the floor. You two stay hidden and come out when you see a chance." Matthew said using Lingering Mana skill in conjunction with his Unholy Mana skill to spread miasma all over the floor.

He also used Bless on himself, but only around the demonic part of him. He tried earlier to combine Bless and Unholy Mana to protect himself from the miasma as well, but that locked him out of the Unholy Mana power up.

With his Sense Others skill, he felt people coming up the stairs. He hid himself in the shadows using Shadow Form. His miasma covering the whole floor in a thick black mist.

"Did you have to blow up the stairs?" Faralynn heard a voice complaining while she hid herself better with her bow in her hand.

"Shut up. We're here now. Pay attention." Yuki's voice was heard.

"The fuck is this?" Another voice said.

"Miasma." Yuki said gathering fire on her hands. "Be careful. This thing will rot your from the inside." She said while looking around. "They have a Necromancer. Be careful." She added.

Matthew felt a party of 8 people going in. He could not say for certain, but 3 of them seemed to be Cambions and the other 5 humans.

Matthew decided to target the humans first. Reduce their numbers instead of attacking their most powerful first. His idea was to lure them into attacking him creating a space for Faynn to kill Yuki from the shadows.

He jumped out of the shadow holding his sword like a dagger. He landed a clear stab on one of them, a man in his early 30s, right through the neck. His blade was coated in blue flames just to make sure the man would die even if he survived the stab.

It wasn't necessary. The man made a strange sound while the blood gushed out from his throat like a pierced hose. When his body hit the floor, the blue flames started to consume it lighting the place around it in a blue hue.

Yuki was fast. As soon as Matthew let the body go, she threw a scorching line of fire at him being careful not to hit her allies.

Matthew dodged the attack by jumping backwards and sideways.

Yuki widened her eyes upon seeing Matthew's face up close. She ground her teeth together in pure anger. The flames in her hands grew larger.

"You?! What are you doing here? I thought I killed you and that bitch!" Yuki screamed.

"We're very much alive." Matthew taunted her. "You should really work on your aim."

"You son of a bitch!" Yuki screamed at him throwing a huge fireball at him making her allies jump away from the incoming inferno. "DIE!!"
