Gacha Leveling

Chapter 73 – Ffyr

"Are you sure she will want to make a pact with me?" Matthew asked Paula when she ushered him forward towards the Fairy spirit.

"Fairies love handsome young men. And your Charisma is high enough." Paula explained.

"But what about my demonic soul?" Mathew asked concerned.

"It's just a small part of you." Paula assured him and pushed him forward.

"Alright." Matthew said getting closer to the spirit. "Where is she?"

"She's looking at you. Just stand still." Paula instructed him. "Let her notice you."

Matthew froze in place looking around trying to see the fairy, but couldn't see anything.

"I know you're there." Paula said looking at the wind spirit. "Why don't you show yourself to the boy?"

The fairy looked puzzled at Paula and started to move around checking if she really could see her. When she realized that the blonde woman could actually see her, the fairy started making faces and showed Paula her tongue.

"You're a wild one." Paula chuckled. The fairy was just too cute. "Don't you want to pair up with this handsome boy?" She asked.

The fairy rubbed her chin and circled around Matthew as if admiring a piece of art. She studied him for a while and then looked around to the other members of the party and sneered at Claudio.

"Don't worry about that one." Paula said. "He's not a friend of ours."

The fairy nodded at Paula understanding and then flew back to Matthew. She put her hand on his eye patch and made a sad face.

"Yes. He went through a lot." Paula empathized.

At this point, Matthew could see a small ball of green light hovering right at his face which made him take a step back.

"It seems she liked you." Paula smiled.

"What do I do now?" Matthew asked without taking his eyes off the fairy.

"Let her try your mana." Paula instructed. "It will feel just like when you feed a summoned spirit."

Matthew nodded and raised his hand letting the wind spirit hover over it. He then felt his mana being drained by the spirit that then seemed to bounce around happy.

"I knew she'd like your mana." Paula said.

"What now?" Matthew asked.

"Use the Pact skill."

Matthew picked the Pact skill only then. He closed his eyes after that.

"How to I use this skill?"

"Concentrate on the spirit. Open your heart." Paula said. "Sorry. It's hard to explain. This skill is more about your emotions than control. Just… Just open yourself to her. She'll know what to do."

It took a couple of seconds, but soon Matthew saw himself in a field of grass. A mild wind was blowing and leaves passed by from the few trees that surrounded him.

"What? Where am I?" He asked out loud to himself.

"You're in my mind." Matthew heard a soft sultry womanly voice saying.

He then looked around searching for the person who spoke, but found no one.

"My name is Ffyr, son of Adam." The voice said again seemly coming from every direction. "I'm the fairy you're trying to make a Pact with."

"Nice to meet you. Fyr." Matthew said still trying to find her. "I'm Matthew."

"It's not Fyr. It's Ffyr." She corrected him emphasizing the F sound. "Like the wind. Fffff."

"I'm sorry Ffffyr." Matthew said.

"Not Ffffyr. That's too much!" The voice said losing her sultry tone and coming out in a higher pitch. "It's Ffyr!" Matthew could picture the fairy pouting.

"Ffyr?" He tried again.

"Yes!" The voice squealed now sounding childish. "I mean. It is so." She tried to make her voice deep again and then moaned frustrated. "You fucking ruined it!" She exclaimed in her natural high pitched voice.

It is then that Matthew saw her. A slender woman as tall as him with white skin, freckles on her cheeks and green eyes. Her hair was long and had an orange hue that resembled sparks coming out of a bonfire. She had pointy ears like an elf. From her back sprouted two crimson red butterfly wings as big as herself. She was bare feet wearing a very small green skirt and a tight backless green top that hugged her small bust.

"I wanted to be this mysterious sexy lady that would make you drool all over the floor, but you've ruined it." Ffyr pouted sitting on the ground and angrily pulling some grass on her hands and throwing to the side.

"I'm sorry?" Matthew stood still puzzled not knowing how to react.

"How can't you even pronounce a simple name? You ruined the whole mood!" She said crossing her arms and looking to the side with a humpf sound.

"I'm sorry…" Matthew repeated. "Do you want to try again?"

"Noooo!" Ffyr moaned childishly still pouting.

"What can I do to make you happy?" He asked trying to look her in the eyes.

"Pat me." She said in such a low tone that Matthew didn't listen.

"What?"

"Pat me!" She squealed again.

Matthew was stunned by surprise by such request, but he indulged her. He squatted by her side and slowly put his hand on her hair. Her hair itself was quite warm and he was taken by a cozy feeling when he rubbed her head.

"Thank you." Ffyr said getting calmer.

"Do you want to make a pact with me?" Matthew asked still patting her head.

"Will you teach me about your world?" She asked shyly.

"Yeah. I'll show you my world."

"You won't just let me go after you find out what you want to know, will you?" Ffyr asked with sadness in her eyes.

"Of course not. The truth is that I need your help. I have this skill that I can only use with the help of a spirit." Matthew reassured her. "I'm not just making this pact to learn about the dungeon."

"Really?"

"Really."

"Really, really, really?" Ffyr asked again with a childlike demeanor.

"Really, really, really." Matthew answered remembering how Sarah used to act the same way when she was younger.

"And you won't let that ugly thing in your eye get to me?" She said looking at Matthew's eye patch.

"I keep it under control." He said showing her his purification skill.

"Then I guess we could make a pact." Ffyr said getting up. "Let me look at you."

"You can look all you want." Matthew answered.

"I mean really look. I want to see your soul." She said putting a hand on his chest.

Suddenly the field around them shifted into black. Matthew felt like he was suffocating and gasped for air but was unable to move. Ffyr's hand on his chest seemed to grow heavier and hotter. He started to sweat and shiver.

Then all his memories flashed before his eyes.

His happy and uneventful childhood.

The heartbreak from him being dumped by his girlfriend.

The pain from fighting the goblin stampede.

The despair from fighting a horde of demons.

The horrors he saw the demons do unto others while being mocked.

The hopelessness of being sieged by an army of wolves.

The mind shattering feeling of knowing you killed someone.

The dread of almost losing your friends.

When he could breathe again, he was back at the grassy field. Ffyr was holding the hand she had put on Matthew as if it was hurt. She was crying copiously.

Matthew took a few deep breaths before he could understand what happened. She looked into his very own soul. She saw all his memories.

"You don't need to cry." He said patting her head.

"But you suffered so much." She said sobbing.

Matthew didn't say a word to that.

"If I go with you… Will I also suffer like that?" She asked trying to hold her tears.

"Probably." Matthew didn't lie. "I won't stop being an adventurer. And, with my luck, many other bad things will happen to me."

Ffyr became silent hearing that.

"I understand if you don't want to make a pact anymore." Matthew said with a sad smile.

Ffyr stood still in silence for a couple more second before saying:

"If we don't make this pact, will you keep going to dangerous places?"

"Yes."

"And if I go with you, I will help you?"

"Yes."

Ffyr put her hand on his chest again.

"I can't let you go back out there alone. Not after seeing everything." She said looking at his eye. "I'll bind my soul to yours. We'll become partners. I will help you."

"Really?" Matthew asked hopefully.

"Really." She said.

"Really, really, really?" He asked again mocking her earlier behavior.

Ffyr laughed out loud at him.

"Really." She said again with a determined voice.

"So… What do I do?" Matthew asked.

"Let me in." Ffyr said putting her hand on his chest again.

At this moment, Matthew felt the same pain he felt when he used his soul to transform Lumi into an Ice Phoenix. But this time he could feel that Ffyr was feeling the same pain. It was then that he understood how the pact worked. Each one carved a piece of their own souls and used those pieces to complement the hollow part of the other person's soul. This created a bond between them. A piece of him would be forever with Ffyr and a piece of Ffyr would be forever with him.

It was so intimate and so profound that he wondered if he did the right thing. He just met Ffyr and he was already giving her a piece of his soul.

Then he looked at her face streaked with tears. Even with that horrible pain, she was smiling at him.

His hand instinctively went to her face and dried her tears.

He had no doubt about the pact after that.
